@heine71 because in 1973 computers weren't advanced enough to do computer graphics in animation. What you see here is pure claymation stopmotion. Quick trivia: Tron made in 1982 is considered as the first use of computer animation in film, although less than 5% of the film actually used computer graphics. Veggietales was the first fully computer animated full length half-hour series. followed by toy story( of course.)
God, I love seeing these old commercials again that I grew up watching. YouTube is great for this kind of stuff.
