Anderson wanted to portray the characters as one big family so that meant he had to spread the actors around in various scenes. I assume he thought that if there were too many scenes with only the main characters (Dirk, Amber, Jack, Reed, Rollergirl), the others (Buck, Jessie, Scotty, etc.) would get lost in the shuffle.

That's a pretty fair assessment, although I'd disagree that Holmes was acquitted because of having been an alleged "snitch."  Holmes was acquitted because the prosectution didn't have a solid case against him. One non-bloody palm print does not make for a conviction, particularly when John's fingerprints were all over the Wonderland house. the director's character Dirk Diggler is actually based on John Holmes, but they couldn't use the John Holmes name due to legal rights and shit like that, dirk diggler never existed he was mearly based on the legend known as John Holmes

No comparison!! The "China Cat" just wipes the floor with Boogie Nights. Just the "feel" of John Holmes' film is so totally different. Boogie Nights feels manufactured and "clinical", whereas the original just exudes atmosphere and warmth. I hope people understand what I mean; its kind of hard to explain:)

Mr. Holmes did nothing of the sort! He was a selfless wonderful, kind man, who wouldnt hurt a fly. He would never do any kind of drug (legal or illegal). He would never pimp out anyone, far less a teenage female. He has absolutley nothing to do with any robbery or homocides. and he would never expose anyone to AID. Noone ever caught AID from Mr. John Curtis Homes. So there!
