Good and funny video but come on people since when are the oil filters we have been using for years all of a sudden a big deal when it comes to the cunstruction? Some get opened up and now it's the end of the world? it's not like we are comparing motor oils.
Hey Turbo, was that the K&N filter that had the same spring valve as the Honda paper POS? I think that is the most important part due to the specs required by honda when/if the filter clogs. Thanks a lot for the review bro.
@TurboD16z6 This is how you review an oil filter: youtube.com/watch?v=floUZGP6NZM Notice the lack absence of profanity. I appreciate you taking the time to do it, but man what does using profanity gain you.
@TurboD16z6 This is how you review an oil filter: youtube.com/watch?v=floUZGP6NZM Notice the lack absence of profanity. I appreciate you taking the time to do it, but man what does using profanity gain you?
@JayzBeerz Honestly, K&N filters are a bit pricy. I'd spend a buck or two more for Royal Purple's oil filter. It abandoned the paper media and went with the glass fiber--which lasts 12,000 to 15,000 miles.
@JayzBeerz That sounds about right. Good deal. Now you just need a synthetic oil that can last as long as the filter :)
The only two I know of so far are Royal Purple and Amsoil. I got Amsoil in my car with Royal Purple oil filter. So far, it's at 2.9k and the oil is still yellowish and not that brownish color yet. A bit pricy but I did my math and found that paying 60+ per a year for synthetic is better than $14(4) + 3(4) for cheap conventional oil and crappy filter.
@Zeron18 Well the Royal Purple filter has the leaf spring in it I saw in a video. I heard a regular spring is better than a leaf spring. RP says any synthetic oil is capable of going for 12,000 miles with their oil filter. RP is easier to get than Amsoil so I might just go with RP. I have used Amsoil in the past with their oil filter and I went 10,000 miles on it and it worked great.
@Zeron18 Just got my Royal Purple oil filters and was happy to see inside each oil filter box they included a Royal Purple sticker for your vehicle. Thought that was pretty sweet.
@JayzBeerz Oh gay...The one I bought from pepboys didn't have any. Oh well. Yes, I didn't like the fact that Royal Purple used a leaf spring and it's also the bypass valve. I know for a fact that oil leaks around the side of that bypass unit for a Celica.
They oughta design their bypass unit like the K&N so there won't be any leaks. Nonetheless, I'm quite satisfied since it does save money on the long run.
@Zeron18 I'm not sure what and where you mean the Royal Purple oil filter leaks. K&N needs to stop using paper element and they would really sell well. Plus if you change your oil on time you won't ever have to worry about any filters by-pass valve. I also have a motorcycle and use the K&N for that and it has fiber in place of paper so go figure.
@JayzBeerz Well, in one of my videos, I chopped up a SuperTech oil filter. The bottom of the filter media is opened where the leaf spring and bypass unit is one piece. It doesn't fit snugly and unfiltered oil can leak through there.
Basically, the Royal Purple filter is the same as a SuperTech except that it has a nano fiber filter media and a silicone ADBV. Excluding the thicker shell, the design are the same.
@Zeron18 I just looked at a K&N tear down and it also didn't have a by-pass valve. Remember the ADBV opens only when oil enters the filter. There's no way for oil to get back into the engine without passing through the media fiber. I guess if the RP oil filter gets clogged say good bye to your engine unless you cut it off in time. And I would never buy a super tech oil filter but I have used their oil and transmission fluids and they work fine.
Bosch unquestionably the best brand I have ever used. The commentary on this is terrible. The video itself is useful. Those "orange seals" and springs he describes as building up pressure are neither of those things. They are check valves so oil only flows in one direction. The reason for this is obvious. You don't want the oil to go to the lowest point (oil pan) when the car is shutoff. When you start your car you want oil to be primed in the system.
@QuattroStig totally agree with ya man....so the worst oil filters r the fram and honda?? tho tthe fram is cheap.but honda is a rip off....poor honda owners who believe they get quality when they buy those expensive dealer honda oil filters...never expected it from honda...
Awesome review...What the fuck! What's this shit! Excellent. I expected more from the FRAM TG as it is up a level from the"Orange can of death". QC probably lacking on all types. A little extra glue on the M1 would not bother me too much (as opposed to underglued). Where does WIX/ NAPA Gold fit in?
I love the review, though the glue like what you found on the Denso is exactly what you want, because it seals the filter material to the metal end-caps and ensures that the oil passes through the filter and doesn't sneak out the edges between the metal and the filter. Based on what I saw I think the Denso has the best design.
What a fucking moron! Would you let this homeboy work on your car? Smoke another one dude and buy a filter cutter before you cut yourself and bleed to death- or maybe the world would be better off.
I have a B16B. As durable as those motors are, I appreciate all the protection I can get. I use K&N and Royal Purple 10W40 in the summer time and 5W30 in the winter
wow this guy is cool..i learned some stuff and got some laughs..but i just changed my oil 2day and well i use Jdm hamp honda oil filters and Wix and K&N,2day i used wix,,wayyy cheaper than K&N
