  • That reporter's an ass!..."just because the girls weren't caught red-handed...doesn't rule out hoaxes"...so guilty until proven innocent--yeah, that strategy has always worked out well--FOR WITCH-HUNTS! I heard the "girls" retracted...doesn't sound like that here. That (now) grown woman still seems quite disturbed and unusually detached. And that "11y/o girl" would ramble on for hours in that voice. Listen to the other tapes, it is NOT normal.

  • I would just like to say it is very easy for an eleven year old girl to make that voice. In fact, maybe its just to me, but it sounds like a kid (wont say I'm 100% sure its female) but definetly a kid making that voice. Didnt you guys every try the scary voice as a kid? My friends and I did. And it sounded very similar to that. Everything else...I dunno

  • I don't what you guys are complaining about. This is a great poltergeist documentary. The quality of it is very good and genuinely eerie. Yes, they jazz it up with jump cuts and shaky editing, but I think there's a much higher percentage of actual footage than most of these types of documentaries. I love this one.

  • this ghost fucked my arse and made me bleed. it was a good nite though but he never rang me again. fucking spooky fucker

  • wheres the rest of it?

  • lol

  • Comment removed

  • The investigation was not carried out in a proper scientific manner. The investigators should have removed or relocated the children from the house for a few days and then observed whether or not the apparent paranormal activity continued. If it did then the children were the main factor and it would suggest it was a hoax. If however, the strange events carried on without the children present then that would suggest that the children were not faking it.

  • i wonder what happened to the poltergeist

  • where can i get the film

  • I pass by 284 Green Street Enfield every day and each time I wonder if the people who live there now are aware of what happened in their house in 1977.

  • watched dis on joe swash i belive in ghosts, its gota be reall because how would she no the blocke died in the corner

  • Well, you have to break the problem down into stages. Did she simply guess and got lucky? That explanantion seens very unlikely. But the documentary says that there really was a man called Bill who died in the house. So the question that follows this is how do they know? What sources did they use? Then the next important question would be "Were these same sources available to Janet or any member of the family?" You can then explore the problem further from there : )

  • i saw this on joe walsh i belive in ghosts

  • swash

  • i watched it and nearly shat my pants i was petrified

  • i know its really scary especally when bill throw her across her room and talked through her

  • @947rich Seems more like a hoax to me.

  • really? do u think that? im scared - at least i have a frioend round 2 keep me company!

  • @SashaH838 The only scary thing about this case is how mentally disturbed some of that family were. There's absolutely nothing which happened in that house which couldn't have been faked.

  • i suppose so. but isnt it kinda weird how the police beleived them 2??

  • i agree

  • @SashaH838 me too man this was creepy i didnt sleep a lot i was scared lol sounds childish

  • i couldn't sleep at all! I kept waking up in the night and I was sleeping at my Grandma's house that night so at least I could snuggle up to her!

  • @SashaH838 i had poltereist at my roo when i was little kid so it brings back memories :)

  • no way! seriously? were you possessed?

  • @SashaH838 hell no but i could fell someone breathing on me and things moving why moved next week and been living on grandmas house that was kinda 5 years ago :(

  • so houw old were you?

  • @SashaH838 5

  • so that makes you 10?

  • @SashaH838 im 12 next couple months im 13

  • well... I'm 11. And if you want a girlfriend then why don't you ask a girl out???

  • @SashaH838 to shy lol

  • why do people who dont believe in the paranormal check out these kind of posts?

  • True

  • is jane still alive???

  • jante. and probably.

  • **Swash

  • Im watching Joe squash and its talking about this... i recon its real

  • lol is that i belive in ghosts

  • it was indeed!

  • i watched that, to be honest its so hard to fake something like that, policeman witnessed things being thrown and vicars etc.. strange stuff

  • yeah i agree

  • give me a break.....a girl spoke a spirit voice....i thought they caught it out of air.....weak

  • I agree. The whole case falls apart once looked at critically and from a rational point of view.

  • I'm reminded of the ITV show 'Strange but true?' which examined the supernatural and mysteries. Apparently the show was referred to by its' production crew as 'Strange but bollocks'.

  • I live in Green Street!

  • I saw Morris Gross on Stories in the Night on ITV in 1988 where he played the audio of " I died the the chair". Wish I still had the VHS tape of it.

  • ahh, i live on Green Street!

  • I used work in green street.

  • do u think its true?

  • I am not sure. The other day my housemate said she felt like something had passed through her...

  • Sorry to be rude.. the choppy cuts and the popping images with startling sounds..is extremly distracting..I guess it is supposed to add to the overall scare factor..but I feel these kinds of effects cheapen the story ..and turn it into a mere spook show...since it is a documentaton of strange events..it should be more serious in it's presentation..if the public is going to take these stories of spirit phenomena with more than a grain of salt.. ..just a pet peeve i have about TV ghost shows..

  • I agree with you whole heartedly, its hard to take any of these shows that claim to be investigations seriously when they all rely on the same spooky music and flashing images, i wish they would just present the evidence and let us decide!

  • @TwinkleSpaceGirl I'm with you on that one, when a truly great (supposedly) true story like this comes along there's no need to dress it up with all of the fright tactics you find on most ghosts shows. And for this one in particular there truly was no need.

That said, having watched the entire documentary it's very hard to discount it as just another silly, dressed up spook story. Something very strange definitely happened in this house. Witnessed by neighbors, family, police as well as media.

  • what a crappy show..

  • What's so crappy about it TSG?

  • agreed its pissing me off

  • who fucking knows

  • If anyone actually familiar with the case is reading this (and it seems plenty aren't, judging by the comments) - in the documentary it refers to a man that got in touch stating he was the son of the ghost and that he could verify how his father had died in the house. Was there any confirmation of this person and his account?

  • its true..

  • this is the (so called) real life ghost watch

  • does anyone know or can work out wat the 'spirit' said?

  • it said " oh my gawd this teas awful, i asked for two sugars!" in latin

  • Yeah he said : Im a G H O S T.

    xXxSophiexXx

  • im happy reading this stuff but watching it kinda freaks me out... But i totally belive its real

  • What is real?

  • super-natural phenomena like ghosts. I find it really interesting but i would hate to see a real ghost. I love reading stuff on ghosts but i hate to watch it. Weird huh?

  • hehe and the fear and mystery is what intrigues you :) ,

i to am fascinated by the supernatural,, i search, and desperately want to believe in it but i dont,. there is still so much about the human being that we do not yet understand,

when i was very young i do remember experiencing something that i still to this day cant explain, have you ever had any experiences with the occult?

I live not that far from this place ( Enfield ).

  • No i havent had experiences with the occult but i am very curious about this instance when you were young. Also, i admit i love the fear and mystery.

  • yeah the fact that two police officers actually witnessed the mysterious goings on makes it very believable

  • No this is real, i know the next door neighbour, when she was a little girl back in the early 60s, she could always hear people screaming and shouting. And other weird things.

  • in my oinion this is a real case. I say this becaus i have had many experiences with various super-natural phenomena. if u watch the whole documentary there are some quite compelling pieces of evidence.. if anyone is interested in wot is really happening iam willing to talk anytime or visit equalibria shopping for spirit and read the artcles by steve gamble.

  • i saw this documentary but i dont really think there was a spirit. sometimes people have the power to move stuff with the mind.even when their not aware of doing so. especially when their angry.

  • do they? then just go to james randi and prove it, and get 1 million $

  • Yeah, that's a very good point. And no offence to the family but even if they could get hold of cameras good enough to edit something like that, they don't seem as if they could afford it - again, no offence, just saying

  • In 1977 not many people had valid still shooting cameras, let alone any way of taking moving pictures without having them blurred due to the speed they were moving. So saying it was "convenient" that they have no video/photo proof is a stupid thing to say.

  • not the full shilling

  • The fact that two serving Police Officers witnessed some activity in the house...one of whom gave an official signed statement, tends to make me believe that most of this was true.

  • I lived near Green Street at the time all this was happening. At the time opinions were divided 50/50. Personally I suspect this was a genuine poltergeist (why not? they're not that unusual an occurrence). Though I suspect the tale 'grew with the telling' as they say, and got somewhat embellished. Particularly as the investigator was a believer in spirits & the like, and couldn't possibly have been impartial.

  • puta que susto con esa distorcion al pasar con ese viejo

  • To this day they still claim it true.

Me and my dad think that if they were doing it as a massive publicity stunt, they would have said it was a hoax by now for the extra publicity. Since they haven't the secret is either going to the grave with them or the story is really true.

Who knows really. I believe it was true though.

  • The whole film is available in surprisingly good quality on Channel 4's 4OD service, for free... Provided you live in the UK.

  • Used live not too far away from Green St, I live just off the Hertford Road and my mum told me she saw things as she walked past some days. :o

  • Really, like what?

  • The two daughters later admitted publicly that some of the activity was a hoax they perpetrated to try and fool the investigators, but also claimed they werent responsible for all the activity.

Whatever. Nothing like a good ghost story to grab media attention.

  • Nothing concrete was ever caught on camera - conveniently...

  • the reporters were either never there or the cameras just suddenly stopped working. Some pictures were taken of the girl levitating in her bedroom but it looks more like she was jumping off of her bed so it's a very unbelievable claim.

  • Cameras suddenly stopped working? Really? More like there was nothing paranormal to film. I think the girl craved attention...

  • I'm just saying what I heard on a documentary. I'm not 100% on it being true, about 80%.

  • Not sure what to think really.

The other week I was in bed, and this mug I put on my shelf, Fell because my folder slid and pushed it off. The mug landed right next to my head on my pillow. The strangest thing was I heard the foot steps going upstairs first, and as I heard them, the vibrations caused the folder to slide and push the mug off. My parents heard the bang. The next day I asked them, if it was one of them that walked upstairs, but it was nobody. Quite a strange experience.

  • Sky plussed this and have only just watched it - totally convincing for so may individuals to state the same thing and be utterly convinced - especially the lollipop lady and the dead guy's dad accounts - the sceptic was just being that - shame he didnt go along by the sounds of it. The actual affected girl then still looks utterly traumatised now, 30 years on. Fair play to her to relive it again for this documentary.

  • The BIG questions are...did a woman and her 3pre-teen children, living in a humble Enfield North London council house August 1977,conspire to fool the world with a fake poltergeist haunting rigging their home with spooky effects and conjuror levitation etc. ?or...were the known laws of physics actually broken in this 'shoe-box' semi detachted house? either way it defies belief!!!

  • There were also repoters and police officers who saw things moving and lego bricks blying arond the room

  • Crumbs!

Interview is one of the scariest docus ever.

Oh crumbs! I just been through the wall!

  • I think this case was real at the beginning but when the newspapers, television and paranormal researchers got involved I think the girls decided to keep it going. Perhaps they liked the attention they received? However, at the very start this case was 100%real...

  • I didn't know it transmitted again. Smashing!

I edited the documentary a while back, and I was sceptical at first, and even now there are aspects of the case that I'm not convinced about. But given the testimony I've heard, I'm certain that weird things happened in that house all those years ago.

Graeme Morris's testimony is, I think, amongst the most convincing, and he gives a very balanced account of what he witnessed.

Don't be too quick to denounce it all as rubbish.

  • lol naive. May I tempt you to invest in some shares? Amazing returns! Here, just sign these dodgy looking papers

  • The real scare here is, of course, that there are people out there who are dumb enough to believe in cak like this. Now that's terrifying.

  • People who say this is nonsense are just afraid.

  • what a load of nonsense.

  • i watched this the other night, it proper shit me up. i wasnt convinced until they recorded it talkin, now that was fucking scary.

  • anser please iv mssed around with the ouiji board befor and neveragain me an 8 of my friends did itin a cemetery

  • all i can suggest is pray about it, i know it helps me

  • same i watched it last night 2 creep shit

  • watched this last night. not a beliver in such stuff, but found this really creepy.

  • i watched on channel 4, i couldnt get to sleep until 3am!

  • anyone know where to hear/see the entire poltergiest interview?

  • it was on channel 4 lastnight....

  • Haha i would crap my self i had to sleep in my sister's room for like 2 day's and im 13 :S haha

  • hey u.. chipa!! Apparently you re not mean2mess with ouija ... but every 1 messes round. Goosey is right!!

  • What the hell lol yeh i agree ??? lol

  • LOL i have only done ouija once and it scared the shit out of me. I am never doing it again. Unless... Yvette Fielding and Derek Acorah came round me house lol

  • is it just me but wen i watch it it gives me goose bumps evry time? an do u believe in the ouija board coz i have 1 an scary shit keeps happening NO SHIT pls write bac

  • what things have happened to you when you've done the ouija board?

  • my bored is on my bedroom wall above the bottom of my bed i left it there after playing it only once then the planchette which rests on top ov the bored was bein turned upside down and i kept finding it on the floor on the other side of my room an ther is no way it can just do that my things wer constantly moved ,it all dyed down after 4 weeks or so but i shat myself @ the time lol kiddin

  • Cool no problem. read my strange experience that happened to me the other week. I have posted it on this same video

  • I saw this and have the Playfair book.Absolutely terrifying.Journalists, neighbours and even the police witnessed first hand truly crazy stuff.Entire fireplaces ripped from the wall, objects materialising out of thin air,a chair which danced across the floor in front of a WPC,cushions flying up through the ceiling and appearing on the chimney-truly beyond scientific explanation-which is why they point blank refuse to even look at the case. They don't believe it,because they simply daren't.

  • Does anyone know what music this is?

  • I remember watching this on TV

  • Same i watched like 5 mins of it and was like :O couldnt sleep for a while lol

  • lol. yes it was freaky. If that happened to me I would have had to stay at a Premier Inn lol even if I couldn't afford it. not next door. lmao

  • Does anybody no if the house is still haunted to this day, who lives there and do they experience anything?

  • Not a haunting per se. Poltergeist cases revolve around people not places. I highly recommend 'This House is Haunted' by Guy Lyon Playfair ISBN 978 0 7509 4836 4 which has just been reprinted :)

  • This is the most genuine poltergeist case on record. Absolutely terrifying what this family went through, especially Janet. There's no way this girl was faking the voice of 'bill'.

  • Where does this leave the known laws of physics? there are a lot of power lines and electric rail links near Green Street Enfield.

  • The two girls actually admitted to faking some of the stuff but only to see if Maurice Gross and Guy Lyon Playfair would catch them and they apparently did almost everytime they faked it. Janet said that they only faked about 2% of the happenings at enfield. Amityville was almost definietely a hoax as it didn't follow any pattern of ghost or poltergheist hauntings but Enfield had even some skeptics stumped.

  • Did you read that in Will Storr's book? I'm in the middle of reading it now

  • I did actually and I loved it. Gave me an insight to all sorts of things.

  • Me too I loved it! Very interesting. I read a review on it a long time ago but no bookshops I went to had it, then the other month I found it at a bookshop for $5 what a bargain!

  • That music is well creepy and so as the recorded sounds of demons or whatever.Sounds tends to scares me more than looking at some photos or videos with this kind of stuff.

  • difficult to see how those police witnesses are lying. .

  • skeptics vs haunted houses: there is no such thing and its fake.

one night in the house: NO comment!

  • seen this on tv documentary the spirits son was located and he said the voice is his dad who died in the house

    scary sh!t

  • I'm from Enfield and live in Enfield, not far from the Green Street featured in the footage and, it's all true. For years I've been told about the Green Street Ghost, apparently there's one from bell Lane as well.

  • first time that a spirit voice has been captured on tape? ask jürgenson and raudive.

  • This is as fake as the Amityville Horror.

  • Spoken by someone who sounds like he has no clue about the case.

  • I'm so bummed. This is the most fascinating poltergeist case in my opinion and this doc will never air in the US. I even contacted the BBC asking if there was a chance BBC America would pick it up and the lady told me it wasn't a BBC program- it was Channel 4. I thought Channel 4 was BBC?! So, so bummed. Looks awesome though. Will have to start checking ebay for more info on this case.

  • asdffd:

    btjunkie has this show...

  • Hi vestpaws. Get this for a small world, i put a bid on the DVD about the case on e-bay this morning and i didn't know it was you! HA HA!! The DVD that i have is An interview with the poltergeist, so you wont be interested in it! Good luck and i hope i win the bid..

  • Anyone out there who has a copy of the strange but true doc prefebly on DVD, I'd be interested in acquiring a copy! For those who would like to know more about this case, try to get a copy of "This house is haunted" by Guy Lyon Playfair (souvenir press 1980.

ISBN No 0722169086) Probably the best book written about a poltergeist case period! Also anyone who has got a taste for this subject matter try to get copies of poltergeist by Colin Wilson & The Link by Matthew Manning.

  • hi keobeo vestpaws here i do have a dvd on ebay at the moment of enfield stuff and i do have strange but true on dvd from 95 and loads more

  • i have plenty of stuff on the case on dvd

  • i live down green street , enfield , in the house they still have a picture of a women in the side window , it has always been there , i think maybe it was an old queen or something not too sure but i walk past the house every day

  • I think Mrs Hodgson lived there till 2003 when she died I believe. Were you there at that time? My own view is that what the girls were in contact with was not the immortal soul of this man but what I think Helena Blavatsky called an "astral shell". She was a materialisation medium at first but grew disillusioned with the spiritualist movement and founded the Theosophical Movement instead. Anyway, who knows what really went on at that house. I like to keep an open mind!

  • i live in enfield :S shittt

  • WTF IS THAT Sh*T THAT ACTUALLY SCEARS ME BECAUSE I F**king live in enfield town wtf im gonna look into thiis

  • Are you sure! I can't get on their site for some reason! I've sent them a e-mail to confirm it, but with my luck of getting responses to questions from production/TV companies I ain't holding out for a reply soon! I just hope that your right. Chumpster69 can you confirm this!

    Oh yeah, bring it on....

  • I take it all back! I got a reply today (less than 24 hrs after sending my enquiry!) It is definatly being shown on C4 on march 6th, 2007 at 10pm!

Many thanks to both vestpaws & chumpster for keeping us all up to date. If I hear of any changes to the planned airing I'll post it immediately!!

  • hi everyone good new ive found out when this will air.

march 6th 2007 10pm,go on the nobles gate website to see it for yourself this is the people who made the programme

    hurray!

  • I hope that your right. I can't get on their site for some reason but I've dropped them a line, but with my luck of getting responses from production/TV companies I'm not holding out for a reply!

chumpster69 have you heard this? If i get a reply I'll post it ASAP!

    Keep em peeled..

  • Like I say, when it leaves my hands, I move onto the next job and don't hear much more about the schedules (they're frequently shimmied around).

I'm sure your information's right about the TX date.

Most importantly, I hope you enjoy it - we were totally impartial throughout the whole thing, and it left me personally feeling distinctly unsettled.

Let me know what you think.

    CP

  • Will you be posting the programme on here after it is aired? I've just heard about it and want to watch it - but unfortunately I don't live in the UK.

  • I have an earlier documentary about this paranormal event and also something on audio-tape. It is one of the most intriguing cases I've come across. I'm looking forward to seeing the new tv programme. Shame Maurice Grosse is no longer around to comment on it.

  • Is your documentary on Youtube?

I was wondering if someone would post this documentary that is broadcast tomorrow.

  • No, sorry, this is not on YouTube.

  • hey wouldyou be able to post the erlier documentary of this? i just watched the new one and it was good but if i remeber rightly the other one was on strange but true? a old tv program. scott

  • Well, I'm sure I have this documentary somewhere, but havn't managed to locate it yet. Yes, I think it was on "Strange but True". It was hosted by the tv presenter, Michael Aspel I believe. Last night's programme was quite good. According to Grosse, the son of the man who used to live in the house, identified the voice as that of his father.

  • yes thats correct. and he said that his dad was called bill and that he did die in the living room in the corner in the arm chair of a hemerage. and yeh i remeber michael aspel. it was a good documentary. i hope you can find it m8. scott

  • I'm still looking :( What did strike me is that the voice mentioned the word haemorage. A word which the girls would probably not know the meaning of!

  • yeh deffenatly. when janet was sat on the chair being interviewed, the bloke was talkin through her and she was used to it obviously coz she dint do owt lol and theres no way could of she put that voice on!

  • hi what docu do you have on enfield:)

  • I have spoken to C4 and they were not exactly forthcoming in regards to info about the occult week transmission date! I was told that they only know what is going to be broadcast 2 weeks ahead, which sounds like bull to me. If this is true then i dont think this show will be broadcast in January, more probably Feb or possibly later! Keep your eyes peeled though cos if you have an interest in this case, you dont want to miss this documentary..

  • i really would like to know when this will be on tv

  • Hi, all I can say is that it's supposed to be sometime this month (January) on UK Channel 4.

It's out of my hands now, and with the broadcaster.

  • Hi Chumpster69. Any news yet as to your programs air date on C4? Cheers..

  • Oh Yeah, at last a documentary has been made about the most well documented poltergeist case in modern history. If you would like to know more, get a copy of "This house is haunted" by Guy Lyon Playfair (1980)

Documentary to aire on Chaneel 4 (UK) in January 2007..

  • Guy's one of the people we interviewed for the documentary. You see him briefly in this sequence.

Sadly, Maurice Grosse, the man who led the investigation died just a couple of weeks ago. Ours was the last interview he gave.

  • Yes, I heard today that Maurice had sadly died, but he had a good innings at 90! Looking forward to watching the Doc, I contacted C4 as to it's date of transmission but all they could tell me was that it would air in Jan 07! Keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing your documentary..

  • hi when will this be on tv can't wait
