  • EPIC

  • i wonder wat would happen if he missed?

  • @AsianRemakes007 well he didn't, so don't wander

  • great video

  • What does, "Cow fuck," mean in Catalan??

  • @Gabby9292K1 You're married to a farmer's " daughter " ?

  • @Ceaaa22

For some reason, I don't think so, but that IS Funny! 2 Points for you, C22!

  • @Gabby9292K1 Hahaha ^^ in fact he said "...per tal QUE EL FOC..." and the translating is "...in order to the fire..." (does not diminish) --> "no minvi"

  • @AuralPianista Sorry, "translation"

  • 19 years on, still friggin' amazing.

  • wonder how many times they rehearsed that?

  • @brohan914

    I've heard > 1,000, & in these rehearsals, he missed only 8.

  • Mistake in the description: the audio of this video is not in Spanish, but in Catalan.

  • I've seen so many Olympics ceremonies, and this was by far the most dramatic, moving, and breathtaking ever. Everyone was still, hoping Rebello's arrow would hit. When it did, we all cheered. You can keep Beijing's robotic masses and the artsy-fartsy Albertville. This will rank as the greatest Olympic Flame Lighting ever.

  • @vacazul Oooooooh qué penita, no?

¡Cuidado!

  • The commentary is in Catalan, not Spanish

  • still the best ever olympic torch lighting to date..

  • EL MEJOR COMIENZO DEL FUEGO DE UN PEVETERO OLIMPICO QUE JAMAS HE VISTO OTRA VES EN MI VIDA.

  • can't imagine if he missed.

  • @macmelmorgan Ha, my thoughts exactly

  • GOLIGOLIGOLIGOLIGOAL!!!:D

  • THIS IS THE BEST TORCH LIGHTINING IN THE OLYMPICS HISTORY IT IS JUST AMAZING CHEERS FOR BARCELONA

  • 12 people thought the thump down icon is the download video icon

  • ===they rock :) i dunno how many times they practices this tho :)

  • @siritish

You don't need to make the torch land in the cauldron to light it, all you have to do is ignite the fumes

    SCIENCE!!!!

  • @KarateKidX While that's true it would have been possible, the Olympic Report for these games admitted to just igniting it by a switch throughout practice and in the real thing just in case Rebollo did miss.

  • @KarateKidX

That's Right! The fumes are called, "Plume." The Arrow passed through the Plume & landed in the Parking Lot.

  • As soon as that torch was lit a sense of humbleness washed over me, it's so beautiful to see!

  • i would have been scared to death to take this shot!!

  • i was holding my breath then.... THE BEST EVER!!!

  • i remember that day flam went just over and landed on the otherside it was very good trick if my memory serves my right it was very well done

  • Easily the greatest torch lighting in history. Nothing close. Espana - you should be proud.

  • @ShadesOfRapture catalans are proud...

  • He actually overshot the cauldron, and the gases ignited from the flame passing through.

Absolutely brilliant way to open the Olympics

  • You fucking assholes who try to ruin everything by saying it's fake. Just enjoy the moment. It would be close enough for me if he missed and shot some old lady in her leg in the stands. At least he tried that shit.

  • 0:04 COW FUCK? OK... WAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHAAHAAHA

  • 0:13 WITH FIRE BE PURGED!!!

  • the most original of the story. and if you know a better one, let me know.

  • it was not only amazing , there was the best olimpic games of history, i was here and it was crazy incredible, the sport, the flame, the spirit of people here...we are proud of it¡¡¡

  • Amazing! Simply Amazing.

  • Its not fake though is it! Its true that he didnt get it in the cauldron, he wasnt aiming for the cauldron! he overshot it so the flame would light the natural gas coming up from the cauldron, and also give the spectators more protection....

  • It was a fantastic experience to see! As a spectator I don't really care about the details. What I saw was an archer, receiving the flame from the torch to the arrow, and shooting a flaming arrow perfectly into the cauldron. Whooosh! It looked exactly as it was meant to look. People were in tears at the beauty of it.

  • it's not spanish commentary, its in catalonian, the language spoken in barcelona

  • Yes it is fake! I have seen a video in which you can see the arrow falling behind the place where the fire turn on

  • Although this scene is really cool it is fake, the own organizers said that. You guys are way outdated

  • The ten who dislike are fat asses who dont get out of their houses

  • Coolest moment in Olympic history.

  • for anyone who loves this, i just uploaded the full version (5 minutes) in much higher quality, Its really worth watching it

  • Awesome!

  • Snyper fiya!

  • gosh, this is epic! cool

  • if that guy missed....actually lets not think about it.

  • He missed on purpose. The flaming arrow passed over the cauldron which was emitting flammable gas that ignited as the arrow went by, thus making the beautiful effect.

  • @VWatch07 it should pass over the cauldron, not inside. He didnt miss.

  • @igochan Yeah, I knew that. I think my wording wasn't correct. But still, that's pretty awesome!

  • he shoots he scores

  • Boy this would not be allowed today for safety reasons. I remember Beijing's original plan was to light it with a flying phoenix, but the IOC had them scratch it due to fear of safety.

  • Simply outstanding

  • the commentary is not in spans, isnt it portuguese? i know its not spanish, catalan?

  • maybe its italian.. but its not portuguese tho

  • maybe its romanian, it sounds kind of like those languages i think

  • @uricruz comentator speaks catalan. Sounds like a mixture of french and italian.

  • @MrScardick catalan is a language that evolved from latin, (french portuguese, italian, spanish, catalan, romanian, and others) all latin laguages sunds like the others, i mean : italian sounds like a mixture between catalan and spanish maybe... or french souds like a mixture between catalan and italian... or romanian souds like french and italian...

  • @idwiw6057 You are right, is catalan.

  • Yes it's catalan. It's the offical language with the spanish here in Catalonia.

  • HIZAAA!!!

  • I sure he practice that numerous times before coming to this point because i doubt that even the best archer could shoot the flame into the cauldron in one turn.

  • well he did miss. he intentionally overshot the cauldron for safety purposes and it was lit by other means. you can even see the arrow at :19. good show nonetheless

  • THE BEST.

  • So what was the plan if he missed (I know he did miss, but what if he missed so much that the arrow doesn't even land on the same direction as the target)? He'd just keep shooting arrows???

  • In fact..........I couldnt work out how they even got the arrow to stay alight during its flight.............we tried this experiment over and over again with different accelerants but the arrow always went out...........got me stuffed!! They must know something we dont.

  • i don't know how they do it, but people have been doing it throughout history in warfare

  • It's the same liquid used to keep the flames lit.... i think.. it probably is thought since the flame cant go out either even if it rains

  • @stegatops have you tried with gasoline?

  • It took me so long to figure out how to get the fire arrow.

  • I don't care if you like sport or not... that was ONE HELL OF A WAY to start a show!!!

  • haha KENOATH!

  • That just blowed my mind.

  • ahhahahah

i help you to translate catalan to english ^^

"que el foc" = That the fire

    love from Barcelona!!

  • @Jahpyv lol thanks =)

  • @Toronto2245 YA LOL

  • @Toronto2245 lol true, it sounds like cow fuck, in catalan it means "That the fire" (Que el foc) xD

  • @Toronto2245 "Que el foc" it's "that the fire"

  • @Toronto2245 "que'l foc" D:

  • Wow.

  • That was Hot...No pun intended.

  • Barcelona Olympics was the worst ever. Lack of organization or planning. Spanish Gov had to ask other countries like U.S.A for assistance.

  • Vancouver's lighting of the cauldron was better cause the used "The Great One."

  • Vancouver just lit a piece of Superman's fortress.

  • lol! That's too funny.

  • @egraseidannogew LMAO lol true:)

  • You're kidding right?

  • @PringlesLover123 I can't find a big enough paper bag to cover my head I am so ashamed of the Vancouver Olympics. I can't stop laughing they're so pathetic. And I feel enormous remorse over the death of Nodar the Georgian luger. I blame the IOC and Vanoc personally for this young man's death. Alot of Canadian's, not just me, are absolutely pissed off at the way his death was written off due to his lack of experience. BULLSHIT they killed him hope his family sues everyone. F.U IOC and Vanoc

  • Keep that paperbag over your head until you suffocate.

  • @tw604 I guess the truth hurts. Got me bag over me head. The Vancouver Olympic Games will go down in history as the worst organized games ever. P.S. Don't let the door hit your ASS on the way out to collect your medal.

  • Lol that's your opinion. It may stink but oh well.

  • @TheChlomyster, I think the luger's death and the way VANOC and IOC handled to aftermath was a disgrace. But maybe everything will get sorted after the olympics are over. They might just be delaying proper response because they want the rest of the Olympics to go smoothly first. Have hope, and we'll see.

  • shit happens,,,,, i heard people die from sleep.....

  • Cow Fuck. lol

  • who cares if he didnt get it in the cauldron. he still shot it 200 feet right on the money.

  • I remember these games and seeing a segment on TV regarding the archer and his practice shots. If I remember correctly, he didn't have to get the arrow IN the cauldron, the flame just needed to ignite the gas vapors.

  • Goodnight. GOD bless you.

  • Comment removed

  • @jvidell You are incorrect, fully. I worked this show. He did it.

  • Comment removed

  • @jvidell Chill. Please. I apologize for making you angry. ..but he did do it.

  • Comment removed

  • really dude... that thing you reference behind the cauldron ... after the arrow gets there was on screen before the arrow gets to the cauldron. Exactly at 0:18 ...you see the spec under the cauldron and to our left of the post. Then after the cauldron is lit ... you see the spec in between the post. Dude, if that's your only proof it DIDN'T hit ... try again. After the cauldron is lit , you see similar specs floating around all over the place.

  • Comment removed

  • Why argue on the internet? Neither side will ever win. You can't prove either happened online. In the spirit of the games, take it at face value. Assume he hit it. There's no reason to assume otherwise.

  • Comment removed

  • @jvidell You are incorrect also.

  • Just STUNNING. I must say, it IS the best ever!!

  • Wow 0-0

  • best ever!!

  • One tiny flame ignites the caldron. A spark, then a fireball. I can't explain why I find this clip so moving, but I do. Just an awesome, perfect Olympic moment. Gotta be the most simply beautiful, powerful lighting ever. Just very very cool.

  • I will never ever forget this.

  • Watched it live - was stunned and speechless. Talk about getting only one shot - over the crowd no less!

  • that was so cool!!!

  • This was the best one....EVER!

  • that was AWESOME

  • He really didn't nail the Cauldron. But I'm not saying that he wanst good at all. He was supposed to miss. All he had to do was shoot one meter above the cauldron to light the flame, the jet of gases hit by the flame would do the trick. Otherwise he would risk hitting the spectators with the burning arrow.

  • @ginreikojaku17 you are miss informed, like totally miss informed, you need to watch the documentary about how he practiced this every day 7 days a week and would nail it 100 times every day before he would rest to practice it again. Dont know why you are misleading ppl .

  • that guy is my hero, he is dead accurate

  • He was blind !

  • He was blind !

  • That was, without a doubt, the coolest thing...............ever.

There were some embarrassing failures as far as lighting torches is concerned over the years............LA was ordinary..........Atlanta was sloppy-the flame stopped and nearly went out along the string.............in Sydney the elevator got stuck and caused a long delay..........but they absolutely nailed this one!

  • @stegatops and tonight. vancouver faile aswell. i was there.

  • Ah.....yes........one of the four flame towers got stuck..........only three were elevated...........but at least they got it lit. Outside, when they re-lit it, there was a complete 4 tower replica...........what it was supposed to look like.

  • This is awesome.

  • better then the vanoc boner failer get cealis or viagra as sponcers and the problem would not have happend

  • lol

  • haha true. That's what my facebook says right now. 'If that wasn't a commercial for Viagra, I don't know what is"

  • He did not miss and either way, it is the best lighting of the Olympic flame, EVER!

  • And if you watch real close you'll see he just barely got it over the lip of the cauldron - he almost came up short!

  • I can tell you it's real. I spoke with a gentleman that attended the ceremony and he sat near where the cauldron was located. He said the arrow landed inside the cauldron, then skipped out from the force of the sudden ignition of the flame. Watch closely, you'll notice what looks like something haphazardly falling off the backside of the cauldron soon after it lights. Makes sense - there would be a lot of force created when the flame suddenly shoots up. An amazing shot, especially in that wind!

  • thats proper pressure, this guy practised for the better part of 3 years for this night, he was paid heavily

  • retard

  • "The Olympic flame cauldron was figuratively lit by the Paralympic archer Antonio Rebollo, who shot an arrow lit by the last torch runner into it. (In reality, Rebollo deliberately overshot the cauldron for safety of the spectators and the flame was lit by other means" @wikipedia

  • The cauldron is full of gasoline or something else flammable. He doesn't need to hit it in. He probably shouldn't land the flying arrow inside a tank of gasoline any ways!

  • he missed! look at the base of torch carefully there was an arrow flying behind it! at 0.17

  • he completely misses the cauldren. someone must have a start button elsewhere.

  • why would he need to land it inside? It is full of gas... all he needs to do is shoot it close to it.

  • i was wishing the cauldron has so much gas around it that it explodes. lol

  • why does the description say spanish commentary???

  • My father won 2 gold medals there :) it's very moving to watch movies from Barcelona Olympics... Magical.

  • viva Rio 2016!!!

  • woo hoo!!!!

  • what if he missed ???

  • lol he does say cow fuck

  • The Barcolona games were amazing. i had just graduated from 8th grade in june 92. Here in chicago, me and sometimes my brother use to stay up all night watching the games. especially the dream team, vollyball, swimming, water polo, and track. We laughed at this dude that messed up diving and did a belly flop in the water he got like a 0.5 0.5. 0.0. 0.0 It was hilarious.

Great times, the Barcelona games will always bring back great memories. Thank you Barcelona.

  • you can see the actual arrow keep on flying at :17, down

  • @robtic360 yo are serious man it went right into the cauldron he did not miss dont try to look like you know whats up.

  • cow fuck at 0:04 lol

  • @JforJeffrey he said " Que el foc" jaja it means the fire in catalan.
