What a dork ! Camelback on the screen ! When thirsty, get off the bike and move yer fuck'n legs a bit, won't need the gelseat either then ! Most stupid is the spare fuel container on the pillion seat, secured by a bungy cord ! What a tosspot, wouldn't give him the time of the day if you ask me ! Goes to show, there's bikers and then there's BIKERS ! Doesn't deserve a nice bike like this either, should have a moped ! Dork ! What a DORK !
I think I am going to trade in my R1 today and pick myself up one of these. I have been thinking about it for awhile now so I think I am going to do it. I am wanting to travel across the US at some point and possible over seas somewhere in the future and I dont think I can do it on a R1 lol.
@svengalie Can do it and want to do it are 2 diff things. lol I do day trips of 300 miles or so to the mountains and back but for sure wouldnt want to do it loaded with gear from North Carolina to Oregon and back. I think that might kill me.
FFS man,get rid of the camelbak from the screen,it looks absolutely shite and that petrol container strapped to the back seat..wtf are you on man..get a proper jerry can that can be strapped to the top box with anchor points and out of the way.I bet that petrol container expanded to near bursting point before you had to bin it,from the look of this setup don't make any plans for Dakar anytime soon..
Sven, Can I ask a few questions? Firstly how much (on average) does it cost to fill her up (the full 8.7 gallons), and do you get around 400 miles from a tank? Also as a tall rider is the additional screen a "Must have" for touring. Lastly, can you fit other panniers as I think I prefer the KTM's as they seem to lock on/off easier, are lighter (being plastic) and have decent carry handles. V.nice bike and great set up, good job!

I think so, I loved it in the twisties, I've got a video somewhere of some switchbacks on it. Because you're sat up so high and tall you've got further to lean it feels like.
@svengalie yeah i noticed that sensation while riding a trail bike, if your sitting higher you feel the lean more. Awesome. thanks. Hows the ABS feel like? I drive a VW car and i find the ASR traction control is incredibly effective. Hows the ABS go on a motorcycle?
charlie and ewan had less gear than that on the long way round .......oh yea as I write this I just realized they also had a massive support crew .lol
Which Laminar lip is that on the bike? I am the same height and need quite things down. Did you have the factory tall windscreen on the bike or the standard windscreen?
@carlosgustard nono, I quite comfortably managed to get it right over (enough to scrape the side boxes). It's surprisingly ok. Although it's very heavy unladen, as I found out when it landed on my leg and broke it in two places recently :(
Nice vid. My TomTom Rider stopped charging from the bike a few times too. It's the mount. I sent it back and they replaced a few times without question, which was good of them, although I paid enough for it, I should have needed to!
Anyway, long story short, it's now out of warranty and I fixed it myself. Simple when you know where to look.
How about a personal review of that bike? That is the very bike I want and the fact that it appears pretty effortless to ride in your videos only reinforces my decision. The riding position seems very back friendly, large fuel tank, great engine, etc. Any information you can provide would be great.
@svengalie I'm 6'3" tall so it shouldn't be a problem. There must be a suspension height adjustment or something because I've seen shorter people riding them.
The pull to the right comes from the big boxer engine. The crankshaft is in-line with the bike so you get side torque opposite the rotation of the engine.
cool, i am getting a 2009 GSA next week. My dealer already told me that there is an issue with the TomTom gpd as the BMW recognises it as a Charger. Where did you get the windscreen extension?
great bike...the exact bike i wanted..but this poor boy from maine had to settle for a suzuki vstrom..have to say..i feel in love with her..vera vstrom :>)
awesome bike man... becareful you don't go too crazy with the luggage, watching long way round, couldn't believe how many times they broke their rear subframes from the luggage and hard riding conditions...
I have tomtom rider 2 edition and I never had problems with it. In my opinion it's pretty good gps, the only things that sucks are that there's no built in mp3 player and map updates do cost a lot of money. Could be fun to download a map torrent but theres no pirated finnish maps with finnish(inluding the voices) language.
ahh! I love gadgets! I was thinking of an ipod mount but now I'll have to think twice. Also looking into a gps but it won't be motorcycle specific. I'll just use it during non rainy days :)

Hello, i was wondering how tall you must be to ride that bike, I am 6' exact, and this is the bike i want. It would of great if u could help.
prajeet26 1 year ago
@prajeet26 I'm on lowest seat setting, 6'5" and my feet aren't flat on the ground.
You can get lower seats and or change the suspension.
svengalie 1 year ago
@svengalie God I never thought at 6' I would be short for some thing, now i want one, thanks for the info mate.

nnonix 1 year ago
@nnonix I hope you're tall. I have the seat on the lowest setting, I'm 6'5" and im still only just tall enough.
It seems to pull to the right under hard acceleration.
Besides that it's so effortless. Zero maintenance. It monitors the tyre pressures and there's no chain to maintain.
I did 700 miles in one hit and could have continued, it's uber comfy.
svengalie 1 year ago
@svengalie I'm 6'3" tall so it shouldn't be a problem. There must be a suspension height adjustment or something because I've seen shorter people riding them.
The pull to the right comes from the big boxer engine. The crankshaft is in-line with the bike so you get side torque opposite the rotation of the engine.
Thanks for the great feedback.
nnonix 1 year ago
@nnonix Fair enough. You can buy a smaller seat etc. But from stock you'll be /just/ ok @ 6'3" I recon.
Oh, last feedback: don't take it offroad. First time I tried I broke my leg :(
