Sagan had to ignore a lot of science to "believe". Transitional fossils don't exist, actual observation demonstrates DNA is degenerating - not "evolving", and no one can explain away irreducible complexity. How can tiny changes, which cannot be selected for anyway, accumulate slowly when a complex organ that is not yet 100% functional conveys no survival benefit. And, harmful mutations outnumber good ones by 1 billion to 1. See my channel. Evolution is a religion, not science.
@alyosha24601 It shows you, like I was, are completely ignorant of what scientists actually have to say, and what your church is telling you about evolution is comical at best. Many times its a blatant lie, that true believers accept. Please go watch ONESPECIES, The latest by C0nc0rdance and Donexodus2. At this point there is no point in even discussing this with you because you don't even know what the scientists are saying. DNA is degrading? Its programmed to degrade so we die.
@anubis2814 I teach science in high school; I'm not as "ignorant" as you think, and I don't get my science at church. For your information, at least 100 additional mutations are added to the human genome each generation. The rate of deleterious to beneficial mutation (no one has ever observed one) is at least a million to one, and only the worst 3% of mutations can be selected out - most just accumulate. The evolutionary religion claims it can fill a bucket with no bottom!
@alyosha24601 Most mutations have neutral effects, and there is no need to be selected out, most negatives end up only effecting you later in life or because of lifestyle choices after you have passed on your genes. Yes mutations accumulate, which is why we can track evolution at the genetic level but unless they are detrimental to the survival of the species they will not be weeded out. A positive mutation for one climate may be negative in another, and climate and ecosystems change always.
@Paur Actually just watch All of DonExodus2's videos from early videos to latest, biology is complicated but he does a great job breaking down exactly what scientists are saying. I don't know exactly which of the other channel I as refering to, It's been about 3 months.
@pedrogregorio If you have ever been to Aldis you will know what this is, it is an device to eliminate the need for cart boys. You put a quarter in and if you want to get it back you take the cart back. I think everyone has tried to put do this with the device to get the quarter back without having to take the cart back, this person figure out a way.
@anubis2814 what's the best way to teach my 12 yr old brother some critical thinking? Let him see your "Why Do Intelligent People still Believe in Religion?" series?
We have multiple independent lines of evidence that all point to this date. Including analysis of other bodies in the solar system, and the life cycle of the sun.
No scientist criticizes it. They know there are limits on various types of dating, but thats like using a blow dryer in the bathtub then claiming the blow dryer is faulty.
I love this series. However, it seems the Atheist community spends all its time 'revving-up' the muster to actually *do* something about it. Yes, it is wonderful to explore "why people still believe in religion." That's great; that's how we know how to address the challenge. However, the community refrains from appying that intellect to address the issue. I want a series that outlines: "how to liberate people from religion," "what to do about it," "tools and techniques at your disposal," etc.
Thank you so much. Just so that you know... I'm working on that myself. Several of the atheist / freethinker groups around here get together and chat in small groups - which is a wonderful way to meet friends & establish community, but it is still mostly 'preaching to the choir.' I'm making efforts to deliver presentations & even engage in outreach to recruit more members. For most people, de-conversion is a multi-year process, so getting started now is important.
@inphiknitfractal There is also the "you cannot reason people out of something they have not been reasoned into". heh, about the same isnt it, but good points.

Is there any chance of getting a link for that video? Tried looking it up even in their own channels, but no luck thus far.

Nobody knows how old the Earth is. Could be billions could be trillions nobody knows.
ocelot814 2 years ago
ocelot814,
It couldn't be trillions, since the universe is only about 13,6 billion years old.
Based on a number of radiometric dating methods, we know the Earth is about 4.55 billion years old.

Correct, but I thought I'd keep it to Earth itself. Still, thanks for backing me up with additional reference points.

Some scientist criticizes that method of dating that's why nobody knows objectively anyway.

anubis2814 2 years ago
Failed analogy. Dating is an arduous task with all the 1000s of variables that can through off dating.
ocelot814 2 years ago
It is and all the studies done have pointed most of our methods to be accurate to the level predicted. Watch this video please.

These videos are like chapters for a book which you should write!
AuntieDiluvian 2 years ago 13
I have been considering that to be honest. There is a lot I have left out for time constraints, a full book would probably work.
anubis2814 2 years ago
It would work = and be a valuable contribution to atheist literature.
