if you have just gotten that quest then you couldent have gotten Desert Treasure, at least without the messsage saying so.

range should have better wep and because not full karil's, black d'hide offers better def bonus and lots cheeper

Very nice meele but rune defender i think would be better because it offers str bonus(+5) (bandos top only +4 sre) and some def.
