More young people are looking to rent rather than buy homes. More young people today see homeownership as more of a hassle than an investment. Also, there are a lot of people who have just given up entirely on the "American Dream".
Though it is true that part of the housing bubble was due to access to cheap credit, the fact of the matter is that the slump in housing reflects the major fault line running through the economy right now, unemployment. It seems pretty simple to me, if you don't have a job or are stuck working part-time at McDonalds, there is absolutely no way for you to support yourself, let alone buy a home. We can see this in the attitudes of young people toward investing in home ownership.

Its Americas nightmare the people that sold the no doc loans or ninja loans should be prosecuted. The people who repackaged and sold these derivatives should be prosecuted. The people that rated these investments should be prosecuted. The people who recommended these overated investments and then bet against them because they knew it was all bogus. Should be prosecuted.
