  • at 2:00 you can tell the guitar is having an orgasm.

  • What song starts at 3:40? Can someone tell me please?

  • @VicDark Boy I wish I knew too? Excellent rift... I was in a different state of mind back when Roy played. Wish I was more with it to have recognized his talent. Today now an older man I know. One of my fav songs is with he and Kanika Cress doing the singing "These arms of mine" by Otis Redding.

  • 3:21 roy having fun :D

  • Too young to meet him although I knew his daughter well. Notes don't explain his music and words can't describe what I see and hear. Truly amazing!!

  • At 8:30 it stops being music...and becomes Art.

I met Roy in DC in 1987. I shook his hand. We talked.

On this night I was TOTALLY SEDUCED by The Telecaster.

On this night I became a man.

After this night...there was no looking back..........

  • At 8:30 it stops being music...and becomes Art.

On this nighjt I was TOTALLY SEDUCED by The Telecaster.

On this night I became a man....

  • 6 people who watched this video are out of their fucking minds

  • Know Roy @ the Cross Roads-very well. and from George Town Played with many friends of mine -Johnny Sneed-& others--my x us to play with Roy--X still plays and what a sound to hear

  • I know Roy from Cross Roads & Goeorge Town. Cross Roads was the place to be!! He was a wonderful friend. Very blessed he always gave me a front row seat! We had a connection with music. I miss him but he's so strong in my heart with his music!!!

  • this is great. listen closely, he picks up an entire band somewhere along the way

  • Jeff Beck on Roy Buchanan: We just sat there aghast. It was some of the best playing I've ever heard... He defied the laws of verse-chorus-verse and just blazed.

check out Roy Buchanan: American axe By Phil Carson -- Google Books lets you read the first 26 pages free...

  • A shy, reticent individual, he made several unsuccessful suicide attempts before hanging himself in a police cell in 1988, following his arrest on a drunk-driving charge,.............WHAT A DUMB ASS!!!!

  • @soohoojrj Hell man have some pity the guy was suffering, i heard he had a minor stroke which restricted his playing it was his life, now wonder he was depressed

  • @carroj9 As far as I know he had no stroke he did have personal things that really got to him. We lived in a crazy time of lots of things. I knew him from the Wash Dc area. He was a great person--we all felt so different then

  • @soohoojrj My friends Billy Price and Byrd Foster played with Roy. Many of my friends were good friends of him. Roy was super religous and people who committed suicide went to Hell. Your facts are based upon your stupidity. Come to New Orleans look up Jeff Guitar Nelson or google me so I can let you feel one of my Teles. Ala Kieth Richards - You Dumb Ass. Hope to see you soon, Jeff Nelson

  • OMG I remember the first time I heard Roy play his guitar was on a reel to reel at my sisters house 35 yrs ago. I had tickets to hear him play at Bates College in Lewiston Me. Bad northeaster that weekend concert canceled but I can still hear him picking that guitar like it was yesterday... Wow thanks for sharing

  • the song he plays in the beginning is CSNY "Four dead in Ohio" regarding the Kent State Ohio shootings during the Vietnam War protests which we just passed the 40th anniversary of that.

  • amazing !! Roy the king!! forever!!

  • wallace57, please tell me about the Fritz bros guitar for Roy here, thank you for sharing your videos here/wynn

  • He was locked up, in jail, and was found hanged dead, in his jail cell, ain't no fuckin way this happened like this ya'll/wynn

  • @teleevangelist why did he hanged him self??? and what jear was it that he died

  • @norwayfinland /Roy was booked into a local jail in Virginia for intoxication in 1988 and the jail's story was that he was found hanged. No way would he have done this on his own as many have contested "their finding".

  • Do any of you all listeners in here, know how roy died?

  • Around 5:28 he plays some notes I can't stop listening to.

  • 3:39 ..Tam talatatam talata Tam, ..Oh q'c'etait bon!!

  • more interested in the beer, no disrespect..

  • come-on, he had to warm up...

  • He plays "Blues Otani" from Live in Japan 1978.

  • i need more tamborine!! please

  • Roy and Rory (Gallagher) are my best

  • great comment....ive loved rory and stevie for a while now but ive just discovered roy in the last few weeks, (i know ive been missing out please dont rub salt in my wounds..lol.).. and he has very quickly joined my all time faves!!!

  • @tabulaerasae82 your words make me happy - thank yu.

  • This guitar is no good for him. A blonde lipstick Tele is what he knew. I saw him doing near octaves on one fret. This is safe Donahu country...pretty good none the less

  • Watched it again but it's still like watching Hendrix with a Gibson or Bowie with a girl. Roy letting rip on a blonde Tele is like the IRS telling Bill Gates he owes them everything and he has to clear his desk immeadiately...unbelievable!

  • Roy was a very shy and humble man. I met with him several times and he was always just a regular guy. In 1986 we were together at a blues festival in mansfield, MA and Ibanez had made him a guitar for endorsement and he wanted nothing to do with it. He told me to try it out and it seemed nothing like a good old tele. I played one of his songs, "My baby says she's gonna leave me" and he showed me a better way of playing the riff. He was taken back that I remembered the song. A true class act.

  • killer playing just wish that guy with the guitar would get out of the way

  • lol

  • my guitar goes out on the curb tonight . . .

  • Yeah, there's somthin' ominous and tense about the opening sequence...Roy could'nt seem to git that drink down fast enough! Nerve's, tension, did'nt want to be there? Stellar playing though...sad he's gone!

  • simplement énorme,

roy et rory a un R prés mes deux musiciens préféré

  • Thanks for the video.Roy was such a great player.

  • I remember The Crossroads real well. My "gang" of friends used to stop in for beers and good music on Fridays. We were electricians working in DC, right over the line. Now that I have kids, and live in Tampa, I only get there once or twice a year. It's been so long, I don't know if it is still open. Roy Buchannon was a semi-regular.

  • Roy is the master Did any of you get a wierd vibe from the people besides Roy? Maybe its me but I sensed a lot of tension in that opening scene. I did notice Roy was hitting the bottle pretty good, his playing was stellar though. Just wondering, was just a short time before his death.right?

  • He is really incredible. That was true music and true guitar, very original style and deep playing.

And check from 8:26 to 8:35, approx, there are many references to the famous Led Zeppelin "Heartbreaker" solo.

  • I suppose thats the bitch, mother fucker who got him killed!!! Grrr...

  • That is some wicked greasy nasty mean playing it's a shame he's been gone for 21 years now.

  • 7:57... sweet mother!

  • how much coke has that dude or dill with the tambarine been snorting what a trippa wikudd roy though

  • There oughta be a goddam law against playing guitar that good!

  • At around 7:45 you start to get the feeling that he likes it. :)

  • he s like a diesel motor !^^

  • haha thats probably the best analogy for him!

  • amazing, just perfect

  • That first blues lick is a FUCKER

  • weird video at the beginning, seems like they're about to bow down to the guitar..lol

  • i can play better than he does

    i mean the tambourine man

  • hahahah

  • The chord progression for ohio is Dm F C and then the other part is Gm to C if you guys want to learn this version. It's a great jam.

  • someone asked where bladensburg maryland was. prince georges county, seconds away from washington dc. at peace cross, still stands the building formerly known as the crossroads. all of the greats have played there. danny gatton, roy buchanan, roy clark. it predates me at 40 years old, but my dad, uncle and cousin have told me many stories of plenty of beer and watching phenominal talent.

  • What is the song that starts at 2:50, it really sound like a beatle song or somethin. But I can't figure out wich...

    Does anyone know?

  • Got it!!

It sounds a little bit like instant karma from john lennon...

  • Men i wish i knew that part on the guitar it sounds so awsome!! (anyone tabs or something?)

  • the song is OHIO by neil young. "Tin soldiers and Nixons coming were finaly on our own" any way something like that. thanks, Rick

  • I got it! The Kinks - A Well Respected Man

  • Ohio - Neil Young

  • Where is Bladensburg, MD?

  • prince georges county maryland, near washington dc. i didn't read what your question was referring to, but it was probably in reference to the club called "crossroads" at peace cross. it was apparently a family restaurant by day, and a home of the best local and distant talent. rb apparently played there quite a bit.

  • If don't ever buy a Fritz Brothers guitars, it's because of that dude with the tambourine.

    Roy is raw and real...genius.

  • If I were that tamborine guy, I would like *exactly* like that -- right down to the peek-sneak early on to see if my friends were watching me PLAYING WITH ROY BUCHANAN!!!!1!1ZOMG!!

  • *would -look- *exactly* like that

    sorry... needz zzome zleep =.=

  • You last commentor probably struggles with molesting kids, praying for you bro, just enjoy the music & keep your negativity to yourself! After all it's the blues.

  • Would have loved to go drinking with the great man.

  • I wish there was a DVD or something on Roy. Thank god for youtube so atleast some footage is out there. He was the best ever!

  • There is! its called 'Live from Ausin Texas' and its fantastic; check out 'Amazon'+ you can pick up DVDS of the bootleg live shows ('foodliner' and 'Jonathon Swifts' on ebay (USA) - Seller is 'Bluz-Cat'(very helpful)

  • oh fuck is this great

  • What memories! My husband used to play with Roy, and at the Crossroads (tho' not at the same time). Roy & my husband looked like twins, they became so close, he and his wife, 6 kids. Roy was pure talent... nothing touches him.

  • @SherryBChafin Absolutely, how lucky for you to have been around during his time....have always admired his talent

  • WOW..awesome tamborine playing!

  • I have previously commented on how awesome this video is so wont bore you - Anyway; for those who have commented on the Tambuorine Man; I think he may have popped up again on a recent RB video from Snakestrethcer called: 'My Soul Went Down Last Friday/Roy's Bluz' - check it out (added this week); longer hair & identical mannerisms! + recorded c.18 years earlier.

  • was this guy the best ever or what?? damn.cant believe what im hearing and seeing.heard he killed himself.didn't no cops killed him.thanx for the vid and the truth.hope theres an investigation+arrest someday.

  • dont matter of he picks up^ a new one or an old A Master

  • Roy is definitely the man on the Tele. Fantastic playing..... Arrrggghhh, somebody punch the tambourine guy......

  • Nicely put Wayne - I couldn't agree more (p.s theres some more mental vids from this session and some from 'Foodliner' concert that were posted this week)

  • What monster player, raw tone- incredible stuff. This is the guy -look no further. Everything you need is right here in this guys playing. Really listen to him.

  • yea whats with the Tambourine man. Roy is a God you cant diminish him :)

  • and don't you just KNOW that the guy with the tambourine is telling people today that he jammed with roy?

  • really, the guy with the tambourine is creeping all of us out....yikes!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Awesome!

  • Great player!!! It will be 20 years since the Fairfax County Va. police killed Roy? Someone should do a movie about his life and investigate this.

  • V2, you are right and right, he mouthed off in jail, and the cops/guards killed him. God Bless Roy. Roy was to guitars is what Bill Gates is to computers

  • Never heard this before, I heard he had a stroke and died from it

  • Right after he died, there was a article in Guitar Player Mag., that told the story, everything else is folklore.

  • My jaw hit the floor - I`m literaly stunned - So f.u.c.k.i.n.g raw.

  • From 7:30 that guitar is ON FIRE + check out the 'warm up' technique - This bloke is on a different level and hardly anyone has ever heard of him! (which is pretty cool in a way).

  • stunning playing from a true master

  • At this point he is not even under rated.

He stands over the top. These Django's like runs while playing the guitar unplugged left me jawdropped. I've seen a master testing a tool with great accuracy . Making the low E sounding thin......Thanks everybody for posting this......

  • quality of video and sound is shit

  • better than no video or sound

  • what film is this clip from??

  • that tambourine guy is so white it hurts

  • this video is from a promo for the Fritz brothers Roy Buchanan blues master hand made guitars. this is the uncut version.

  • theres more to this video though, someone posted another clip, I wonder if theres a whole video?

  • yes, i have the complete video of takes and outtakes.

  • how can I get that man, these are some of my favorite roy clips. I think hes half lit and letting it all hang out. Id love to see more, let me know, thanks

  • you're right, that guy with the tamborine is super creepy, keep him away from children... and of course roy is MISSED by many.

  • aballballball; It looks like the guy with a white tee shirt/tamborine is the same guy who explained the mechanics of this guitar to Roy. He's just taken his brown jacket off.

  • they rushed him, they should have let him have another drink.

  • Roy! OMG, that guy could give heart and soul to to a guitar. IMO, he is the most expressive guitar player ever.

  • *roy

  • toy is awesome but the dude with the tambourine is freaking me out

  • Roy with out a telecaster is like Jimi playing a Gibson 335 and neither work. Roy without a telecaster? dancing on the edge album features Roy playing one of them limited Gibson Les Pauls.

  • Don't get me wrong the man has plenty of soul........i just don't like his sound.

  • You can't learn this. He was truly gifted.

Wonderfull, thanks a lot for sharing.

  • quelle est ce morceau interprété par Roy à 2'49 de la vidéo ? cela ne semble pas être de son répertoire ? Salut

  • il piu grande

  • Roy's life story is told by Phil Carson in the book "Roy Buchanan: American Axe"... I found that Roy's playing has an even greater impact after hearing about the life he had.

  • HES ALWAYS AMAZINGLY TASTEFULL I agree, love Roy great great player, top 10 ever withouta doubt. R.I.P Roy....his music will live forever...........................

  • I saw him play in the early 80's not knowing who he was before hand saying something to the effect of "never heard of this guy,how good can he be"and left the show feeling like I was hit by train.Rabid fan ever since, more like top 5 of all time......

  • Top 5...that cat could play...

  • R.I.P Roy !!!!!

  • You were fabulous, man! Why are you not still here with us?

  • Brought 4 friends backstage to Roy's dressing room at the Storyville Jazzhall in New Orleans only a few months before he died. He gave me the pick he used that night, a trr shirt and two photos, one signed by the bass player and the drummer, and one signed by the "World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist". He played a Les Paul instead of his Telecaster for some reason. One night for the archives.

  • He once told a photographer he liked using Les Pauls because he could "get any sound he wanted out of them ".

  • They dont make them like this anymore...RIP Roy

  • Roy doin da bizness on custom made gittah'signature tradeliks rampant-unfortunately leaving behind a big musikal hole & unfinished bizness.long live da Gittah.

  • guitar god

  • HES ALWAYS AMAZINGLY TASTEFULL

  • whats the first song he plays... or whats the cord progression?

  • Goddamn, I get goosebumps each time I hear this man play....

  • @7.25 he's talking ROY

  • when i were the messiah i do not need to come again, with roy upstairs lol

  • He truely was an artist. He played his pain through those strings. He was and is the Telecaster Master.

    God Bless Roy!!!!!

  • Some playing!.... LEGEND!! Its like the instrument is confiding in him

  • Have you heard a guitar cry? You have now.

  • i think part of that sound was my soul crying Dtongay...

  • nice document! roy and a tele ,,they just belong together! sad he´s gone

  • are there tabs of this version of ohio

  • this must have been shortly before he died?

  • this was around 4 months before Roy Died. Just right after this, Roy went to Austalia and then shaved his head bald just like his drummer.

  • Humbling.

  • The song at 2:55 is a improvised version of Neil Youngs song OHIO

  • whats that song at 2:55 ?

  • This exact recording is on Roy's album, "Malaguena".

  • wow wow WOW!
