Elvis did not take illegal drugs like heroin or cocaine or any of these sorts. He did, however, abuse prescription drugs more frequently than Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor combined. Of course this is not quite true...but you get my point. There was a story that went around that Elvis took to abusing prescription medications because he viewed them as, something along the lines of, " a legal way of getting your fix." At this point in time, he was definatley in denial about his issues.
Even if Elvis was "strung out" on something other than the music, the man had a right to his privacy. Being a tabloid writer and saying crap about people is the easiest job in the world.
