Search whiting flatwing rooster saddle hackles on e bay if you need feathers for your hair. Almost impossible to get these type of capes anymore. Hurry up and buy them before someone else does and breaks them up and resells them to you for $40 for 15 feathers.

I have been fishing and tying flies for over 20 years, and I assure you that most(as in the vast majority) of chickens raised for their plumage in the industry do NOT live through the process of harvesting. I"m not trying to rain on your parade, but it's the truth. Do a little research and you will find out. These birds are bred specifically for their feathers, and when the feathers come out, it's bye bye birdie. I don't like it but I still like to fish so I deal with it.

So I suggest starting with a new bead/

These feathers are harvested from roosters that are specially bred only for their feathers. They live approximately one year, and at that time, they are either euthanized, and then plucked for their feathers, or, they are plucked while alive. In that case, most of them do not survive the plucking.

I like the video, it definitely helps if you have someone who can put them in for you, but with some practice you can get them in by yourself ;) I attach mine to wig clips so I can change them up every day, though my fave is always blue and white striped ;)

@andreaanderson1 no their not the roosters are specifically bred for these tail feathers and often dont live through the plucking so most farms that breed them let the bird live for a year to get the tail feathers long enuf kill the bird and pluck feathers off its corps. Also the birds were orginally bred to use the feathers for fly fishing hooks and only few feathers were plucked so as not to kill the bird until it became a fashoin fad and buyers demand went up,pay$60-300 on ebay 4 a sm bundle
