  • It's at least 100 feet...perhaps more...east of the imaginary line between Buoy A and Buoy B, so it's definitely within the boundaries of the reserve.

I agree with Jim, there is no claim to be made here. It's technically a discarded item, akin to trash. If someone were inclined to remove it, I believe there is no rule or regulation preventing one from doing so, just as if you had found a discarded beach chair underwater (like that ever happens...). But good luck with that, that thing is heavy.

  • I don't think there is a 'claim' to be made - this is something that was placed there - it's pretty cool - Don't know for certain if it's in the MPA or not.

  • Thanks to @scubadivergirls for tipping me off... This is so crazy cool... Did you claim it? Is that Scripps' property? CAN you claim finds like this?

Did you investigate why it's standing? I'm curious if it's standing on some kind of base.

  • This statue is in the area between buoy A and B - not certain as to the exact locale but we did a dive beyond buoy B into the canyon and encountered the statue as we got close to the reef.

  • Cool stuff......If you don't mind me asking, where exactly in the cove was this dumped?....I wonder if its the same guys who dumped the angel statue at Vallecitos.....
