the heavy riffs at the start sure give me the scares man , damn did DIO make any songs for any Horror movies like for Sountracks would have been great if more bands does that man
@wandererlain You're certainly talking about "Sol Invictus" of the "Saturnalia" a roman rite. Is Dio talking about Sol Invictus in this song ? Why is there a picture in the vid. I don't understand.
Last in line and holy diver were two of the rawest, purest metal albums ever. Straight through the heart IS metal. I liked this album too, but it's not viv on the lead so it's a half step down.
I hated this album when I first heard it...mind you, it was my first Dio album. The Magica-era got me to give Dio another try. Like many of you, it took me a while to get into Strange Highways but once I heard Black Sabbath's 'Dehumanizer' I understood where this album was coming from. Tracey G should've stayed on as Rhythm Guitarist though. Good song-writer, but his solos during other people's songs really hindered the band.
I was first astonished when I heard strange highways for the 1st time, very doom, but now it's one of my favorite Dio's album with Lock up the wolves (very special too)
Strange Highways was the only Dio album I could ever stand fully behind, even as a kid. Now, Holy Diver stands out for camp appeal, but still Strange Highways holds a odd place in my heart. I know I shouldn't like it, but I can't help it.
I don't like his interpretations of the old songs, but on this album, Tracy G and Dio created something so angry, so heavy, so dark that most fans couldn't handle it.I could not either.
But now, I've gotten used to it and this song will always be in my TOP 3 Dio songs.
Yes, Strange Highways, Dehumanizer & Angry Machines are something different and special to the other albums. No fantasy lyrics, but the truth of a fucking planet.
Haha, great that you mentioned Dehumanizer, that's my favorite Sabbath album.Unfortunately, I haven't listened to Angry Machines yet, but if it continues the style this album has, I#m sure I'll like it.
Probably so, yes.I actually think this is his best album, I love the classics, but I hate the sound on those albums...the guitar sounds thin and the drums...urgh.
@Paganguy1 That's funny considering Dio said he definitely believed in something, just wasn't sure on what. He said he definitely loved the idea of Jesus though, if he could ever be sure on his existence as he said.
Yes, he was an agnostic. which I believe is the only sane way to go through life. However, I have my own silly beliefs but they are none of anyone's business.
I believe that was DIO's point. Stop inflicting your beliefs on others.

BEST FUCKING LYRICS EVER

1:45 They were worshipping THE SUN in late December, which is a Pagan rite.
The intro of this song reminds me of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Heavvvvy, man.

@praetorianus72 Sorry, I was off on one when I said that. I was thinking of Christmas, not Dio.
