Well, if you keep an open mind and do a little audio investigation,,,
Son House + Charlie Christian + Willie Dixon + Gene Krupa + Hank Williams + Les Paul + ( fill in the blank ). Mix 'em well, Add a handful of 'speed" a bottle of "Party Liquor", shake it, 'n bake-it out pops Rockabilly, and everything that comes afterward,,,,,,even ...Rap
this was truly elvis' first million sellar but it took two labels to do it check the charts of the time and see how long it remained there you'd really be suprised. But RCA wanted all the Glory.
@joelvis1968 A lot of us loved Elvis' whoop and laughter at the end of "Mystery Train." It was such spontaneous...devil-may-care fun. But it seems to indicate Elvis thought the take, for some reason, would not be a keeper. It was Sam Phillips' genius to realize it should be left in the performance.
@patrickb5197 I know where you're coming from. I wonder if there ever was a quiet moment at home in the early days when Gladys and Vernon just sat and stared at each other and said, "What...have...we...created?!"
Could you imagine hearing this back then? Think about it - there was no MTV, no Youtube, no Itunes. People were much more segregated in their tastes. Hearing this must have blown people's minds.
@theShowStopper321 This might not be correct, I'm no expert, but I think this was recorded in a studio that had a deep hallway that sometimes produced an echoing sound that showed up on records. Once again I'm no expert, I'm pretty sure Elvis recorded in a studio with a deep hallway later on though, I read his biography.
@sparkytrick It was recorded in Sun studios - which was virtually nothing more than a tiny little shop off the main street. It was famed for that "echoey" sound. Listen to Elvis's recordings for Sun before he became really big - most of the tracks have that feel. And just listen how Elvis uses it to magnificent effect ob Blue Moon.
This is undoubtebtley Elvis' greatest era. He looked amazing and sounded great. Every man wants to be him, every girl would love to be with him! There won't be another Elvis Aaron Presley as long as I live
@Steeley1690 Still, so many "fans" have the images of him in those awful impersonator suits and not the raw, Rockabilly/Blues man who had that edge. In my mind, once he hit the 60's, it was too canned and commercial.
Written by Herman (Little Junior) Parker and Sam Phillips. Elvis recorded it July 11, 1955 at Sun Records, along with Scotty Moore, Bill Black and Johnny Bernero on drums. RCA reissued the song in November-December 1955; it was the A-side to I Forgot to Remember to Forget. It is available on Artist of the Century, A Touch of Platinum, Platinum: A Life in Music, The Sun Sessions, and The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters.
This information is partially correct. Mystery Train comes from 2 different songs by Junior Parker, SUN 192 (A)side Mystery Train (blues number) (b)side Love My baby (up tempo) early Rocker. the combonation of both these songs makes Elvis Presley's version of Mystery Train (SUN 223) What it is. Sam Phillips did not write either Tune, But maybe he had the idea of how to train into the Number Elvis Gave us.
@Jackiej61too Sorry, but there are no drums on this song. There was a drummer at the session, but Sam Phillips chose(wisely!) not to use drums on this song. The only percussion you hear on "Mystery Train" is Bill Black slapping the bass and Elvis Presley strumming his new Martin D-28.
This is such a very unique, exciting and magical Elvis song. Elvis definitely has the very best renditions of this gem. I love all of Elvis' music from the Sun Era so very much. Elvis had the greatest beginning to a singing career that there will ever be. My favorite era of Elvis' career will always be the 1950's. Elvis has truly made such an enormous impact on my life. Elvis has the greatest fans by far. I loved this video a whole lot, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
