The shaman fish only takes about 30 seconds to catch, once you go to the correct fishing spot. I loved Nier quite a Unique game that has a few flaws, but overall i would give it a 8.25 out of 10 after my third playthrough. ^_^
Lol uhhh this is Hilarious! Why do people that cant figure something out for themselves even play games? It was a tad bit annoying that the game doesnt specify how you have to (HOLD YOUR "LS" STICK BACK AS WELL AS THE DIRECTION OPPOSITE THE FISH)
The fishing spot in order to catch the Shaman Fish is at a different beach. It certainly was annoying catching my first three Bream before i thought to go to a different fishing spot xD. Im truly starting to think Joystiq reviewers dont have a clue...

Now I would like to make that comment that yes he is fishing in the wrong spot, however the old guy who tells you where to fish only says "...on the beach..." He does not indicate which beach to fish at. At this point most players were probably unaware that there is a second beach you can fish at. Also since the "beach" is so close most people didn't think to look at their mini map for the red x. Plus the pulling back on the left stick is skipped in the in game tutorial.
Follow the red "x" to where you're really supposed to fish the shaman. I know, I did the same thing by fishing in that same area for about an hour. I felt dumb.

He LITERALLY is the 'reviewing editor' for Joystiq, but LITERALLY cannot follow simple in-game instruction.
It wouldn't be so bad if he retracted his mark of 'zero' after he was told what HE did wrong.
But no. He claimed that as he has been gaming for 25 years, it's the game's fault for not being intuitive enough.

Andddd, this made me quit it all. It was just so stupid. I did this fishing thing in literally 2 minutes.
This turned a lot of people off of Nier, and that's a real shame as its now one of my favorite games.

The average Donkey Kong game does not last longer than the third screen I guess JM would not take it over the first barrel to jump over ^^
