@ bloggsie45 Yeah thing is Britain colonised New Zealand and i cant imagine a Native Mauri ( although im sure they could) write this sort of tune so you know?!
So beautiful. It broke my heart and made me so angry when my school didn't even bother to stop and remember today, but I will always remember. Lest We Forget -3
All good soldiers know very well there is nothing to fear while they do what is right, and forget all the worries they have met in their duties through the year.
A soldier cannot always be great, but he can be a gentleman and he can be a right good pal to his comrades in his squad.
So all you soldiers listen to this – Deal fair by all and you’ll never be amiss.
Remember the 60,000 of our men who died serving the empire, their country, and us! We must now fully honour them and do them justice like never before!
This isn't just the sound for the end of the war. This is sound that makes us remember, & thank & appreciate the soilders who lost their lives so we could live in a free country, rest in peace fellas, you did well <3
I am so so proud to be an Australian. A day like ANZAC Day is a day of rememberance, the fallen diggers, and those who continue to this day to serve for our great country and also our younger brothers in the great country of NZ. We treat these events with great significance. We always have memories of getting up at 4:45am to go to the dawn service on a cold morning. These memories live in our minds for our generation and the next. Well done Australia and New Zealand you do your countries proud
every single time i hear this, always gets to me. And it always fires me up. Even if I'm having a shit day, just listen to this and everything just goes. Everything but Australia and it's soldiers, what they do for us. Fkn A i'm proud to be an Aussie.
@cubed213 on ANZAC day this year (2011) me and my Cadet unit (49 ACU-Smithfield) were goven the honour to be the honur gurd at the dawn service at Salisbury RSL, marching for the WW1 vickers HMG battalians &their banners and pole regiments, we also were aloud to be ther hour guard at the Adelaide footy grouds whiloe vertans in jeeps passed us
at the dawn service when this was playing i started to cry a 2nd luitenant came ans thought i was sicked and was toughed when she found out i was crying:)
this is a sound that makes me proud to be born in the greatest country in the world, but at the same time fills me with sorrow, the thought of what those brave men a women have gone through so that we can be free, only a true aussie know what the tune really means and represents
Remember it is not only the Australians who faught and are remembered with this song but also the New Zealanders. R.I.P all ANZACS who faught in places like Gallipoli. R.I.P
@HIIMMRFLUFFY yes noting the NZ in ANZAC - Australia New Zealand Army Corps and I am from CHCH living in Perth :) many of my great grandfather/relations were in Gallipoli fighting for our freedom
r.i.p to all our Australian brothers and sisters killed in action both past and present , your scarifice is greatly appreciated by the British people and military
Um, so what about Nurses or other staffing women that have died in combat zones.?????????? What about Australian women NOT in the defence forces, killed during WW2 by the Japs.? learn some history before you whinge about bullshit, moron.
@pagantruckie umm, yeah about that, the nurses got that good, the soldiers were bayonetted on the beach, not a clean shot, stabbed in the gut. whilst tied up.
To pmb79. Thankyou for posting the words. The tune was enough to put shingles down my spine as we remember our fallen however, the words cut though in a way in which I can't describe. Mate all I can say is, Thankyou to the Men and Women who fought for our very freedom. You're always in our hearts, our minds and memories. Lest We Forget.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them, We Will Remember Them (Not; At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we will remember them, LEST WE FORGET) It is the last goodbye to all fallen of the Great War, not just ANZAC's, but all war dead.. I have been here in Oz (and yes, I am a Pom, and yes I served 22 Years in the Pom army) but now I am here serving in the ADF..
@Martin69362 It seems to me you don't deserve the pride of either nation with dribble like that coming from your fingertips. Why be so trivial? Stand up straight, STFU and be proud of all of our soldiers!
Don't worry mate, The Ozzies think they have a monopoly on national pride... especially the immigrants that are not from scotland or mother england, the poem, that famous poem, that ends, at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them, ends " we will remember them" but in Oz it ends "Lest we forget" That is the title......But hey, if where not for the pomms, they would not be Ozzies...
We do have a monopoly on national pride in Australia. As all other countries have a monopoly on national pride in their own country. And you are right, if the poms didn't send us to paradise, there would be no aussies. Isn't it just like the poms, send the convicts to a better place and you stay in the dark gloomy uk.
@irishgodfatherchris Yeah. I shouldn't have said anything and I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I love The Last Post and I hope we can play it in Australia forever. I'm really sorry everyone :'-(
Ooh dear, no no no, I didn't want to start anything! I thought the Last Post was only played in like, England and Canada and Australia, members of the Commonwalth of Nations. That's all, I didn't want to start anything. Really! Maybe I said it all wrong :-( I will want The Last Post to be forever played in Australia!
@wwemagpie I would be interested in how you came to this conclusion....I only served our country for 22 years in the Navy, and whether we are a republic or not has absolutely no bearing on the sacrifices that Australian Servicemen and Women have made in the past, present or god forbid, future.
@wwemagpie On 11h November last year I was proud to listen to this and to see the Anzac flags dipped at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Whether you antipodean types become a republic or not, you will always be remebemred by us poms with gratitude for what you did.
@wwemagpie On 11h November last year I was proud to listen to this and to see the Anzac flags dipped at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Whether you antipodean types become a republic or not, you will always be remembered by us poms with gratitude for what you did.
