  • why didnt they make they wheel square? everything else is.

  • ford fairmont

  • not to bad looking

  • I think this rendition is fantastic! Beautiful car indeed.

  • About the lowest point in a great name, the whole car was just crap, nothing remarkable with it at all. To think, 2 years later,a whole new car, ultra modern and with a selection of much improved drivelines. This was about the best advertizing for the 83 and up models that could have happened. This car made the replacement look like it was from a completely new era!

  • I think this car looks great! I love those straight lines & edges! Why can't todays cars look more like in the 80's?

  • @DRIFTking95M

    I agree wholeheartedly. :-D

  • These were snazzy -- nice, clean lines, something of a welcome breather from the "busy-ness" the nameplate had gotten to. Would have loved to have seen Ford keep this design, but with improvements in quality through the following decade or so. Best of all worlds? If it had survived into the 90s (very possible what with the appeal of such a classic name combined with really fine fuel economy), and then been part of a collaboration between Ford and Honda that would've given it the NSX's interior.

  • I believe that there was some trick photography here to lengthen and flatten the car because in real-life it's a lot more squat and boxy (and ugly).

  • What a terrible thing to do to a Thunderbird ! It was so cramped inside that even with the seat all the way back your knees damn near hit the steering wheel. Rotten 302 engine that was always in the shop. Plastic everywhere. This car was as bad as the 1974 Mustang ll that was also a piece of garbage. How Ford ever survived the late 70's until almost 2000 is beyond me.

  • My Grandma bought a new T-Bird in 1980. It was gray w/ a gray vinyl interior and a 302. It wasn't much to look at, but it drove nice.

  • A Ford Granada w/a slightly different body.

  • I believe the T-Bird and Cougar were the first Fords to feature an optional digital instrumentation in 1980. Lincoln Town Car and Mark VI followed.

  • Say it four times. Maybe that will be enough to blow this ugly ass piece of shit car up. 1980 thur 1982 was a real LOW point for what is a great name plate. What was FORD thinking in 1979 when there design team came up with this ugly down sized car. I call it the "Jimmy Carter mobile" LOL. Small and ugly,

  • Designed in 5 minutes, ....... with a straight-edge ruler.

  • @nightynightjill thats whats so good about it

  • @nightynightjill and usually those kind of designs make the best lookin cars lol. at least in my eyes haha

  • @nightynightjill And probably based on the then-current Ford Fairmont. Ugh.

  • @nightynightjill Ford seemed to use this method throughout the 80's.

  • @nightynightjill that's ok, better than today's jelly moulds.

  • Looks like crap.

  • this car has gorgous exterior styling

  • The 1990 Lincoln towncar redesign clearly draws from that front end. I can see Lincoln towncar in this thunderbirds head light style

  • Still one of the classiest looking T-Birds... On the outside, anyway. If they'd put a quality interior in them, they would have hit it out of the park.

  • More or less poop in most ways, but I did like the front and rear design...seems to sum up the period perfectly.

  • Boy, did Ford not fuck this car up for 1980.

  • Piece of shit! Fox body crapola!! A true Thunderturd.

  • Worst thunderbird made when they went to the Fox body for 3 years

  • @SteelCity1981 They went to the fox body up until 88 just reskinned and tweaked in 83

  • Thunder, thunder! THUNDER CATS HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Yes, spread your wings.....and then start flapping them because that's the only way you'll get to where you're going if you buy this car! X-D

  • So this is where they got the idea for Thundercats

  • Thunderbird... THUNDERbird... THUNDERBIRD!! Sounds like he was waking up from a nightmare.

  • Spread your wings in a new 1980 Thundermont!!!!!

  • It's amazing how much inflation there was in the late 70's.

From watching the ads, the MSRP of 1977 Thunderbird w/ ps, pb, AT, and V8 engine was $5434.

This 1980 Thunderbird w/ ps, pb, AT was $6958. That's a huge increase in just 3 years, and they didn't even say if it's a V8.

  • My cousin had a 1980 Town Landau edition with all the toys...Leather seats, Digital instrumentation push button keyless entry. It was dark blue with light blue interior. I was so admirable of that car cause of all the new technology at that time in the 80's.

  • the 1980-1982 Ford Thunderbird was assembled in Lorain, Ohio

    Chicago, Illinois

  • @Annihilator1111 shut up you nerd!!!!

  • @notrickroll WTF man reich967 lets me do it

  • @Annihilator1111 Personally I like the info you post. As long as it's accurate, it really cool information to know! Ignore notrickroll. He's just jealous.

    Cheers!

  • @Miradart thanks

  • Beautiful and stately... but as aerodynamic as a brick!

  • love the steering collum horn..lol

  • I like the Town Landua version as it has a unique stylish design!
