@bttalbot Yep..I read voraciously as a teen and still do. There is so much lost when we allow something to our thinking for us. Imagination is something that makes us unique among mammals. The ability to let your mind form the pictures as you read....I used to call it a 'mind vacation'. So much is lost...thank you for watching. Hugs.
Great stats, but why would i believe you!!!lol.I love watching the news, and the same story is on two different networks, and they bend it so much to go with their agenda.O dam i have to go...mtv as a great new reality show on,byeeee.
Lol, you. For the most part when I was growing up I was glued to the tube after school, work, before bed. But I am an avid reader, so turning it off is not so hard for me. I just got so tired of what it became, it losts it shine, and is filled with whine, and whispers of 'you should be afraid!' I got fed up.
I do agree a lot of crap on tv, but i also still remember when i was young, we always watch icespeed skating on tv. And i will not forget how exciting that was.
The whole family supporting the dutch skaters, i will not forget those moments
But you are right about the tv makers trying to make up our minds, telling us how whe should see and think about everything
I have some fond memories also. Our tv is worse, I understand than yours over there. One thing to keep in mind about TV is, where is the controversy? The questioning minds? Does it make you think for yourself or for the masses? What I object to is absorption without thought. Believing everything told to you without question. Why do we presume that they will always tell us the truth? And who's version of the truth? Lol..peace. You started me spouting. Hugs Jolanda.
my husband Marcel always used to believe everything what was said at tv, but he does understad now, because he also try to listen to two sides of a story that not all what said is true.
I'm afraid that the tv here is getting worse and worse also.
Hmm..parents grew up in the TV generation too, I know I did. It was just a feeling of resentment at first that something I used to enjoy was making me miserable inside. So...I turned it off. I guess everything in moderation. Its so hard to get family time these days with everyone having things to do and places to go. Most folks just do the best they can. Peace and hugs. Thank you for commenting.
Thank you very much...it's a challenge to find music that You Tube won't refuse..lol. Very glad you enjoyed it. I had so much more to say, but then I would have been brainwashing as bad as TV, haha..thanks for comment,Peace.
She used to drive me crazy, but she resented that family time was not happening except for a few moments around the dinner table, IF everyone was there, and IF teenagers actually talked about something important. Re-runs...'haven't you already seen that before?" Lol. Hugs my love, and thanks.
I remember in college having to do a report on the many wasted hours in front of the TV set and the effects on the population. The states were startling ............. in 1971. They're much worse now.
I'm very lucky to have lived in other countries which have much less propaganda that here. It's a huge difference to our version of TV. What's more, people in Europe generally watch less, read more, and enjoy more activities together. When I returned American TV looked stupid.
I did a report in College journalism class also regarding stereotypes and the effect TV had on society. It perpetuates too many negatives, violence, senseless viewing, materialism, and way too much bad news, and not enough informative news. Thanks for commenting, peace and hugs.
This is great. Funny thing is, or strange, is that since I've started researching stuff on the internet, my tv sound has been mysteriously going off. I've been meaning to fix it. Maybe I should by putting it in the trash!
Put it in the trash. We use ours for DVD watching only, as a family. No commercials, no propaganda. Our news we research off the net. Have not missed the TV abit. Thanks for commenting! Peace.
I keep running into a few folks now and again that are not watching the TV. Unfortunately, way too many are. What is important to them is a lop sided view of reality. I'm afraid there will be a lot of people with rude awakenings one day, and they won't have a clue how things happened. Thanks for commenting, peace.
Another statistic of the American youth: Average amount of time per day spent watching television: 6 to 6.5 hours
Average time per day reading by American youth: 14 minutes.

Truth is not always pretty.. but we all are artists.. and we can make a 'better frame,' if we decide this one is not good enough for us. yeah we can.

it was inspirational in my video response ..

and in case there are any TV viewers reading this .. here .. um, lemme try to help
"The word compendium comes from the Latin word compendere, meaning 'to weigh together'." - that was in a book!!
