This video made me cry and long to be back on the streets of Kolkata. I only got to spend three weeks there-but it changed my life forever-and this video captures Kolkata so well. When i watch it-i can smell the smells,i can remember the faces of those i met,i long to go back, but i just wanted to say thank you-for this video makes me feel like im back there again-just for a moment- but it makes it seem like a reality that one day- maybe i will be back there to help those i met not so long ago.

I just returned again last week from spending a month - it is wonderful, amazing, beautiful,humbling, horrifying, ugly - almost any descriptive word you could think of could fit at some point. But I would never give up what I have learned and experienced there, and overall, the people are amazing, and I know I will return again and again. Have a great trip!

Beggars are everywhere, slightly overwhelming at first. Suggestion - get pre-paid taxi from airport to where you are staying to avoid the initial onslaught. Food and drink is very cheap, can eat like a king for dollars a day, as long as you like Indian food!! (Love it!) Lots of great deals in shawls, rugs, and pretty much anything you can think of...don't forget to barter. Spent some time in Darjeeling this time, and hiked in to Nepal, highly recommended - the Himalayan foothills are amazing.
Haven't been to Delhi since 2002, but did go to Connaught for shopping when I was there, I believe - don't really remember much more than that, and I am sure it has changed since then.I do remember there are many "friends" who want to help take you to places, but of course get a commission from the place when you get delivered...but if that is where you want to go, what matter?You just must remain vigilant in all you do,as in any foreign country. Would love to hear about your travels.Shelley
