@xxxligeiaxxx i'm assuming it's the join-up you doing, and that people who do it, do it because the the human is sepposed to gain truset etc. and I don't se why that would get trust nor leadership..?
@Marixxen2 I was working on this with him because the place he was living had terrible turn-out and I wanted to make sure he was getting at least some exercise. I also wanted to spend some time with him in a "work" environment so he could start to understand voice commands. We had very different exercises that we worked on (NOT in a round pen) to build trust. I don't really understand how round-pen work would be a "trust builder" either.
@xxxligeiaxxx hehe, of course: it's possible to work in a round pen without doing the join-up etc. but the words "round pen-training" and "join-up" is a little mixed :/
Aww thanks! This video is actually pretty old at this point--check out some of our newer stuff to see how far he's come--he's already under saddle! :) Thank again for the kind words and encouragement!
Yeah those are great videos(the 12 series) I've been reading the John Lyon's perfect horse series. And watching all of the videos and getting as much advice as possible online and from my neighbor's (who all have horses)It's just my husband and I training our little yearling. She's doing very well. I guess we both just need some practice at it. Thanks
Maybe his size is throwing you off, but that fence is six feet high. The pen is fine, this was his second day in the round pen, so he was checking things out. He needed to (which he did) learn to keep moving forward. He couldn't have escaped if he wanted to.
Oh well I just started my 15 month old pinto/paint yearling in the pen too. Do you have any advice for me? I can't get her to go left, only right. I've had her since she was 4 weeks old. She is very trusting and doesn't spook easily. She completely trusts me and doesn't know what pain is. I don't want to hurt her to get results what should I do?
And how old is your pretty horse? Have you started the sacking out process yet? We have started that as well.
My advice would be to take everything one step at a time. Try hand leading her each direction first so she gets the idea. I'd suggest doing as much reading as possible. It took me a while to figure out the correct stance to drive the horse forward. If you check out the user handle "horsetrainingvideo" (the older videos) you'll find a great series (I think it's 12 youtube videos) on how to round-pen into starting. Though I broke him in another fashion, these videos were super helpful to me.
If you check out some of our newer videos (this one is almost a year old now) you'll see we've started under saddle. This account is dedicated to Ozzy's training, so you'll be able to see through the videos each step that was taken in getting him safely under saddle. Please remember that this is how I broke my horse and I am not a trainer. My biggest suggestion would be to have someone with know-how help you. :) Ozzy has a great TEAM behind him. :)
There wasn't much care taking to be done - you actually weren't a disaster (considering your state). I wish we could have gotten to know each other when I was still on the east coast. Hopefully I'll see you again when I come back. Of course, you are always welcome to visit me in AZ. It would be awesome if you, Mel, and Brianna came out some time and we could do some serious desert trail riding ... and partying! :-)
Sounds awesome! My cousin has been begging me to visit her in Mesa, AZ. Maybe a trip out there is in my future! I agree, I really wish we had known each other when you were out here. I guess we'll just have to use that for an excuse travel. ;)
I don't see why that makes any trusted at all...

@xxxligeiaxxx oooh, then, oki, sorry. since it stood "round pen training" which is what M robert, Pat Parellie etc, calls it =)

@Marixxen2 It is round pen training, though, I wouldn't call myself a Parelli fan or subscriber. :)

Well it's not llama neck! He's trying to get out of the pen! It needs to be about a foot taller and he won't do that!

Wow! Thank you for your kind words. I'm completely looking forward to seeing him all filled-out, but I'm loving these awkward yearling days. ;)
