Yep, 1964. In that case the Standells were obliged to do what quite a few American bands did around that time: serve as stand-ins for the Beatles. The Standells were affordable and already in southern California. The Beatles were neither.
AWESOME collection!! I consider myself a bit of a 60's music connoiseur and I remember the song from the sun rays.. ANDREA... could you post that song? Everyone I talked has no recollection of that song!! But I do!! Thanks so much!!!
blah, I love the standells- dirty water and why pick on me albums are tops. Josefus is psych/heavy. Everybody knows anyway 45s are the place for garage music anyway.
Great collection. I saw the Standels at Amoeba this week...release of the L.A. Nuggets box. They were great but only two original members (Keys and bass). No Dickie Dodd. Danny Hutton sang one if his Hanna Barbara records. I asked the Standels why they sang a Beatle tun on the Munsters. The answer was what ya would think, the producers insisted and the Standels didn't have their own hit yet. Also at the show were Jackie DeShannon, PB Conspiracy, PF Sloan, Keith Allison. Kim Fowley was there.
Got anything by "The Bare Facts"?? - From of Southern Ohio..."Bad Part of Town" & Georgianna" was their two top tracks played regionally. - They are listed under Psychodelic Garage genre.
Never heard of them. I did a little hunting and found they were from Portsmouth and released two singles. But I don't have anything by them. There are a couple of Ohio garage band blogs and websites--try those.
Ohhh, yes. I get it now. I keep getting these rude comments saying that I'm a "wanker" or that I'm showing off too much or whatever, so I just assumed the worst. So I tend to respond to those with humor.
your record collection frightens me, stop it. im only 23 and ive been real lucky to find some of the chems ive got but christ your collection pisses over mine because a. none of mine are originals and b they're not super bloody bastard hard to find like the ones you've got. i mean come on who the fucks even heard of half of the bands you've mentioned in this video
just about every one of those groups had top ten hits, 'cept the fugs. this is great stuff, but not very rare. i bought most of these in discount bins in the mid to late 70s for 25 to 50 cents a piece.
No need to growl: my "part two" video shows Love, Seeds, and Magoos. As far as the Elevators and Watchband, I've never found a copy of any of those super rarities, unfortunately.
The Chocolate watchband "no way out" and "inner mistique" are worth a LOT even if they are on tower records, many copies should be available.. The elevators 1st lp has been bootleged so much.. saw a mono copy for 200 us$ a couple of weeks ago
Wanky? I'll have you know that I had one hand on the camera and one hand on the records for this entire clip. Seriously, though, are you suggesting that I'm showing off or something? I certainly don't mean to. I'm not sure how I could share my collection with people without being "self-important" or "wanky." I'm not some rich prick or anything, just a music fan.
If you dig garage band classics check out the recent vinyl LP release of the Jagged Edge/Offset including five lost demos. The label is Break-a-Way Records, a German company. PS - The JE did You Can't Keep A Good Man Down on Gallant
Have you heard of a group called "The Rubber Band"? They would have been around about the same time as The Swinging Medallions. And, they would have been out of Alabama.
I know Willie and the Red Rubber Band; is that the group you mean? They recorded at least one album for RCA Victor. As far as "The Rubber Band," I'm not sure...
According to my friend Sam Mills who was the lead singer, it was just the Rubber Band. Supposedly they recorded two or three albums and toured (overseas he mentioned for sure). Said they recorded in Musselshoals. So, I'm at a loss. He told me about it, but didn't seem to want to talk about it much. Bad times for him maybe? Although he said it was good money, but to his dad wasn't a real job. He went on to become a very successful orchid grower. Thanks for your response.
Great posting, great narration. You obviously know your stuff! I'm subscribing! Particularly cool is the ? & the Mysterians album. I have an original mint condition pressing of the "96 Tears" 45 in the original factory sleeve on the Cameo Parkway label. Cameo Parkway finally began releasing that material on CD only a couple years ago! Great posting, thanks! A+++++++++++

Very cool on the Wild Angels - Davie Allen is still recording and performing and participates in some online e-newsletters. Ditto Billy Hinsche of Dino, Desi, & Billy.
It's worth a bit, but maybe not as much as you think. I bought it only last year for, I think, $30.00 in a record shop. It's actually probably the record I paid the most for out of this bunch.
Ya just looking it up it sells online for between 50-95 so 30 is a pretty good deal. I work at a record store part time, and we have this LP but the owner is trying to sell it for 300, so I guess thats kinda a rip off haha.
thanx 4 info, just gettin into psych/garage(on cd for cash reasons)& enjoy watchin blogs like these.cheerz

Cool info. Was that appearance on 'The Munsters' from 1964? I know the show aired from '64-'66.

I didn't know the Standells did their appearance on "The Munsters" before "Dirty Water" was released! That explains "I Want To Hold Your Hand".
Too cool!

Totally! See my "Nuggets from the *Early* Standells" video. The Standells had been around for almost two years before "Dirty Water" hit.

Most of these suck except for the Prunes or Arrows albums Commercial crap. Bust out some Seeds or Josephus. The Standells were a fuckin' joke.
