@Mikzuu94 It's not really something you can fix without changing the fundamental way the game works. You could tweak it but I think Valve are more concerned about hats at the moment.
This happens with all projectile weapons (rocket launchers grenade launchers huntsman...) due to the fact that all classes have one very large hit box that registers hits from projectile weapons and several small weapons that registers hits from hitscan weapons (anything that uses bullets)
This happens because all projectile weapons (non-bullet) are able to come into contact with a large hitbox that surrounds all characters. This means that a near miss still constitutes a hit.
ok, first off i have some really noob questions, so please don't mind.
Whats the name of the map, and how do you get so many bots, and if you dont know that can you give me the ip of this server in the video, looks really interesting.
@dimitry246 turn cheats on, then type bot repeatedly. (if you are the admin) or... don't turn cheats on and type tf_add_bot (number) if you want them to try to kill you.
TF2 will run on almost any PC, in all likelihood you can run it on your PC and with that you get FREE updates (they will be sold on 360 if at all) and you can see the benefits of Keyboard + Mouse.
If you have a computer made this side of 2005 then it will almost certainly play TF2 better than on 360.
I use x-fire. I'm not a huge fan of it but it's free, easy to setup, works with most games, timestamps the filenames and allows you to upload it easily to the x-fire site. Just make sure you enable sound recording.
I take the file and I compress it with DivX using VirtualDub, both of which are also free although the Pro version of DivX was only free as a one day offer. The free version still does a fine job.
It's an interesting bit of backwards logic. The truth is all projectile weapons must be checked for collisions continually (every server tick? every physics frame?) whereas all instant hitscan weapons like pistols and shotguns only need to be checked the moment they're fired so they can be modelled much more accurately without killing the server and everyone's computers. The weapons are meant to be designed around these basics laws of games physics and not the other way around.
The huntsman is hardly used the same as the sniper rifle. Hell, it's impossible to do so. The most common way to use it is to spam arrows into a group of people and hope for the best. Quit yer crying about the Huntsman, because even with these broken hitboxes, I rarely see somebody do good with the huntsman.
I'm not arguing a position, just demonstrating game physics. Any problems you have with people "crying" about a game weapon, you might want to take up in a forum or something...
I was addressing that to you. You actually presented one of the most non-biased reports I've ever seen. I was talking to anybody would complains "HUNTSMAN IS OP! WA"
Spamming with the huntsman is for morons. I'd much rather go Demoman or Soldier to spam projectiles.
A good Hunter takes well aimed/well led shots and puts arrows in an INTENDED VICTIM. Admittedly, I do pop off random shots in corridors to check for spies, but that's an exception.
I know but people keep denying this is the case. The hitboxes actually extend much further than I show in the test. The huntsman arrows move a LOT faster than any other projectile, especially when fully charged. I'm also reasonably sure this won't be changed because better hit detection would be very resource intensive for projectiles.
much better. well done, this shows how completely broken a weapon the Huntsman is. I have also noticed a lot of neck and sternum shots counting as head shots. truly frustrating weapon.
wow what server is that those guys really suck

How to fix the huntsman
1. Increase velocity of projectile to be 2-3 times faster
2. change the hitbox to a special huntsman hitbox where the hit box is more trim.

I thought it was because the aim is off. the circle not centered.

How can this be a fair weapon at all if it can kill someone you're firing over the shoulder of? And set them on fire if you have a pyro handy :|
Not that would matter, it can one hit everything except an over healed heavy.

It's supposed to have a big hitbox...
It's for close range...
verdenodela1 2 years ago
Shouldn't it be the other way around? Make the hitboxes smaller so people tend to get closer for more accurate shots.

it can one hit kill if its a head shot....thats not exactly balanced if it has a huge hitbox

@WWIIOLgeorgh i dont think so, yesterday spamming arrows i headshotted 2 invisible spies and killed another 3 on the body....

Not bad. It would be great if you used a better cross hair for the video, though. That small white one was hard to see.
AluminumStud 2 years ago
Sorry. It's the one I use in game for accurate aiming and I thought a larger one would make it harder to see exactly where the shot landed.
madhaha 2 years ago
Well, just turning it green would have done wonders. ;)
AluminumStud 2 years ago
Wow, thanks for the update. Yeah they do seem pretty broken.

Arrows are projectiles just like grenades, rockets, flares, etctera, so hitboxes are bigger then for hitscan weapons.
