Beynonce played her in ' Cadilliac Records', & also for those of you who has heard of: Minesota Fat's, he was a legendary pool player & the best of his time. According to ' Cadilliac Records the movie'', he was her father.
Oh wow, so this is what she sounded like. I can't believe they let that mediocre recycled tool (Beyonce) play her in Cadillac Records! What is wrong with the world these days?
No wonder these women of this generation are admired they never had to take their clothes off and shake there ass to get famous NOPE they relied on pure singing talent!
@nottys92 thats y i love ole skool songs women where women they talked and sang from the heart now a days women hv to hv all they breat out and butt out to get a man to look at them if you love yourself and respect yourself a man will follow
@nottys92 Look at a male singer like Prince, who didn't mind exhibiting his body and sexuality. Ha ha! She sings 'don't change your hair for me', which comes out of the blue and unrelated to the rest. The words are 'don't change a hair for me' which means 'don't change anything'.
we are losing our icons of the music world so quickly..heaven is so full of talent..it makes the remaining ones all the more precious..Etta is one of the few remaining ones

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE HERE WHO PROVIDED US WITH THIS POST AS WELL AS THE COMPOSER AND MUSICIAN INFO - YOU HELP MAKE MUSIC LISTENERS HAPPY :)
Etta was a rough lady, you can tell by this version. This is a very "unapologetic version" of this song. The fluglehorn played sweeter then she sang. I prefer Chaka Khan, and Syreeta Wright's version with saxophonist Gary Bartz. Look it up, you wont be disapointed...
@videolover61 ~ Agreed 10000% I love Etta don't get me wrong, I danced my first dance at my wedding to her AT LAST, there's no other version I prefer {although I do like Christina A.'s version its more jazzy}; but anyway this song is all wrong for Etta her voice is too rough, this is a a soft love song, her voice is just all wrong for this song, the horn sounds prettier than she does, I would have preferred to listen to an all instrumental version of this song...!
@tricianfred i think that's what makes her rendition all the more powerful, emotional and touching... the roughness of her voice in contrast with the horn and her interpretation contrasted with the lyrics... her interpretation of it is by far my favourite of all. She gives it a new dimension, imo.
Appreciating music like this is so much harder now that we're constantly bombarded by garbage off the pop - production line. Keys, Legend, Buble, Thicke why aren't you dominating the industry today? :-(

If there is one "artist" that I would not even remotely consider a genius, it's Kanye West. He and he fellow rappers are producing pure garbage. He has no place on a video page of the truly great Etta James.
the song is only effective if it inspires you or conveys its message. Thats the good thing about music sweety although some may sing it in their own style once you have found your own outlet you will find what others find appaling may be to you sweetest appeal...Best wishes
nothing wrong with this version, nearly an acoustic. very brave version. perfect pitch and tones throughout. i like it. shows how strong her voice was to not need to much backing behind her.very nice
Well, you see, Etta has the quality that critic Kenneth Tynan once referred to--in speaking of Miles Davis and Billie Holdiay--of duende, which the Spanish use in praising a bull fighter. A moody je ne sais quoi. An ability to convey sadness and beauty. In this case, she can take a magnificent standard and imbue it with soul. Ray Charles does this. And Stevie Wonder, of course, but with different material. So, Brava, Etta!
