A law needs be passed to detail how much a bill will cost an individual taxpayer ( similar to grocery stores displaying how much a product costs per ounce) . In the case where the money is borrowed, the taxpayer will be shown how much he/she will have to pay back and at what APR. I've heard this claim a lot, but it's utterly untrue. Firstly, it's a blatant lie that Lincoln was in favor of public health care, the idea didn't even exist back then. If the govt would learn to let go a little, competition would be forced on insurance companies because consumers would actually have a choice of where to buy their insurance policy from. A law needs be passed to detail how much a bill will cost an individual taxpayer ( similar to grocery stores displaying how much a product costs per ounce) . In the case where the money is borrowed, the taxpayer will be shown how much he/she will have to pay back and at what APR. I bet most Americans would be outraged if they knew how much this was going to cost them.

I would agree Democrats don't have a prayer. We're back to the turn of the last century where big corporations are more powerful than the governement, and are able to buy off politicans left and right and dictate policy. Given, things were worse then but the divide between rich and poor is getting to 1900 levels right now. The congress passed a law and called it "campaign finance reform" a few years ago, but it was a fraud because there was like a million loopholes. Now it's just harder to trace the money.

I've heard this claim a lot, but it's utterly untrue. Firstly, it's a blatant lie that Lincoln was in favor of public health care, the idea didn't even exist back then. Secondly, a lot of people will tell you that the ideologies switch, but won't tell you when. While it's true that Republicans were liberals, it was in reference to the beliefs of the time. Once liberal institutions became the norm, it was conservatives who supportted them, who wanted to conserve them per se.

The few checks and balances we used to have are all but gone, everyone charges whatever they want for everything no matter how much it squeezes us. the only thing that affects it is when we stop buying or using something and hurt their sales and profits. Sorry to here that you US Citizens are going to miss out on a public health care system. As a citizen of a country (like most western countries) which has a public run option which by the way is extremely good I can only imagine how hard it is for you to be under the control of a private co-corporation run system whos sole purpose it is to make profit with the health of its members at the lower end of its concerns.

What you fail to understand is our govt has regulated insurance into a no competition status. If the govt would learn to let go a little, competition would be forced on insurance companies because consumers would actually have a choice of where to buy their insurance policy from. Maybe if your country had a capitalistic economy, your country would have as much innovation and success as ours. We as a people though, need to replace these political thugs.

I suspect they would.. However I would expect that the additional taxes they would pay to improve their Healthcare would by no means equate to the costs US citz pay for their preimums for their private Health Cover Not to mention the deductable on top... US have over 250Mill people If you dont have to pay for private HC I would not think that the additional tax would make much of a dent in your wallet....

I think the NYT is wrong on this. Obama is no idiot, if he folds like a beach chair on heath care, his approval rating will dive to Bush like numbers and Obama knows this for a fact. I think Obama will come through on this, otherwise he'll be a one term president for sure.

Nothing has even been discussed as to who is eligible for this plan, and btw if you belive your govt insurance will not be rationed then here is a factual story.
My father in law who makes under 15k a year has just been denied medicaid. pardon, but why? who knows. no explanation. but we are not taking this lying down, we will not wait for them to change the verdict.
Bottom line DEMS/REPS educate yourselves or your lives will be taken over till death by big bro

We really have no free thinkers do we? Is it to much to ask for reform instead of pushing for a public option. I think because most americans (especially those who consider themselves bright) are clueless as to how the insurance industry works, they short sell themselves.
People all we need to do is raise the cap on medicaid. as it is today 20k and under we need to bring it up. then adjusting several torts and presenting nationwide insurance competition, then we should be fine.

We need to just pass our own reform the way the democrats want. The republicans are only interested in having the Obama administration fail. They don't care about reform. They say they do, but they don't. A lot of the republican elected officials take big payouts from a lot of these pharmasudical companies, hospitals, etc. Come on..we have to do what is right for our country. The Biggest Corporations LOVE Government. It's the only way they can become a monopoly.
Put yourself in their position: Would you rather compete openly in the freemarket where you might lose to a smaller but more efficient company; Or would you rather pay a few politicians to pass a law giving you exclusive rights to that market?
