As an "American" married to a Canuck babe I just want to say. Good job eh! You know we used have Co-op's in Montana. I still remember when they tried to make us learn that metric system. Well we weren't going to have any of that I tell you. Now excuse me while I go get a 2-liter bottle of Coke. (notice I how I spelled "liter" not "litre" LOL! Peace!
I remember I asked some Americans if they've been to Alberta, they're like "We've been to Calgary, but not Alberta yet" It was all I could do not to laugh, that would be rude.
@IJest We realize this, but to Saskatchewan? Not only that, but it's necessary to understand the culture and history of Saskatchewan to really understand the humor in the song.
An American certainly could understand, but let's be honest; most people just don't know WTF Saskatchewan is.
@SaitoChikara DUDE I'm not the only one who has visited the REALLY BIG country to the north of US, I get most of the references without googling them, and STILL think The Arrogant Worms are one of the BEST musical humor groups north or south of dah UP
@zenfrodo It has nothing to do with it. I thought you would have got the humour in it lol (I was just poking fun at how American pilots killed Canadian allies), but how does geographical location have anything to do with it? so what if we live on the same continent? German people live in Europe along with France. Different cultures-same continent. Same thing in NA, Canadian and Americans have alot in common however there are some Big culture differences
@YouReadMyMind German & French people are all *Europeans* because they live on the continent of Europe. Canadians & US'ers are all Americans because they live on the continent of North America (and yes, Mexicans and anyone living in South America are Americans, too, for the same reason). It has nothing to do with countries, but geological continents. Go back and take your geography class.
@zenfrodo Ask any Canadian and they will say they are not American. You can call yourself American only because the Thirteen Colonies took the name of the area that was already America before they founded the US. Yankees believe that their neibour to the north likes you, but you should see what we really think of you (im holding back some very harsh words). Now of course we respect many aspects of the US and I even respect our relationship with you. But I do not like how arrogant the US is.
@YouReadMyMind I am majoring in Physical Geography and minoring in Human Geography at the UofS. The name North America and Europe is just a name given to a group of nations. They just needed a term to sum up all the countries in a specific area to make it easier to map out the world. The countries within these can be very similar and very different. Culture is a major factor. So Canadians are not Americans. We are Canadian because we live in Canada.
@YouReadMyMind Yep. Canadians are only 'American' the same way Mexicans, Chileans, and Brazilians are. All live in the Americas, aka the large land mass NOT connected to Eurasia-Africa that is NOT Australia or Antarctica.
No way! This is a Trevor original! I've seen them both sing it live and Captain Tractor's introduction to the song includes a disclaimer that Trevor's version is better!
Just back from a show (Brantford, ON), and I laughed my butt off. Great stuff. I've enjoyed their music for a long time, but this was my first chance to see them live. One member was missing due to the recent birth of his twins, but was very ably replaced by Mike Ford of the fantastic Moxy Fruvous. I'll post some videos some time soon.
everyone has an accent to some people, even in the same country, for example someone from the maritimes would have an accent to someone in the prairies
Yup I moved from New Brunswick to Manitoba and they thought I sounded like a Cajun, their words not mine, but probably due to being a half french province and I live 10 minutes from the Maine border.
you do... i used to live in Saskatchewan, now im in Ontario. You have accents. It's funny whenever i visit sask and then come back i have the accent for weeks.
I was comparing it to my Ontario accent. EVERYONE has an accent, it's all depending on where you're from. Also, the American midwest accent in the same style of accent as the sask accent. So I can see where they would make the comparison.
@pivotgurl Fair enough. I misinterpreted your post. I thought you were claiming that accents in Saskatchewan were particularly unique or localized. But yeah everyone has accents.
I was just in California and I was chatting with a Texan. He somehow figured I was from New York. I have no idea how he figured that.
My cousin has lived in Australia for about 8 years and has picked up a subtle Aussie accent. It's really nice, I love Aussie accents.
These guys are absoutly amazing.... But i haven't seen em for a couple of years now because they haven't came to my town for a little while............
it's their signature song. anyone who believes this isn't theirs has some screws lose. and some of you americans can't understand that canadians are capable of writing our own stuff and being extremely talented. i know i'm being a bitch about it, but i'm a huge fan of this band and have been for years and i get very defensive. sorry to people i've offended but it's the truth!
I am from P.A. Sask. And I just saw these guys a few hours ago. I'm still so friggin pumped. It was an awesome show!!! They played this song before the encore :D
Okay, let me clear this up: I've never heard of the band (either Arrogant Worms or Captain Tractor) until a few days ago...even then it was a little unclear about who sang the actual song first. In other words, I had no clue what the band members looked like, so I assumed this was a FAN COVER of the song. There I've said what I wanted to now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to enjoy the videos not sit here and have ridiculous comment wars with people on youtube
The band's most famous songs have been... ...as well as a cover of the Arrogant Worms' "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate". This song has become so popular that many fans believe, wrongly, that it is of their own creation.
I didn't know it was them, I just barely found out about this song through a Pirate parody I found :) So whoever keeps negitive marking my comments, please stop, thanks very much! :)
Thanks for sharing this! Saw them in NJ 2 weeks ago. They are even funnier live! Thanks Canada. They almost make up for Celine Dion & Bryan Adams. Almost.
