Parents put their kids in the hands of teachers and school administrators trusting them 2 look out for their kids while they're there- to b Taught- Not to let them b bullied & harassed. Teachers & school administrators get PAID for this. They have a duty to make the learning environment a good, safe one.

Some have 2 endure bullying & harassment from the time they start school b4 they even reach the age of 8 or 9. How would U feel? Many have parents who disown them just for being themselves. @peacerebelgirl Vaccinations can b a concern & certain administrations in the government can get a horrible amount of power & use it ignorantly, selfishly, illegally, in evil ways. Thats true. But hiding is not the answer. Theres strength in numbers. The more society realizes that gay (LGBT) people r a part of society & aren't going away anywhere & that they are registered to vote & that they can be united in standing up for their rights, then the less politicians will try to deny their rights.

Im a lesbian and this is just dumb! The census is a head count, thats all its suppose to be, any other information asked is unconstitutional! We all get counted no matter what your sexual preference, race, age, whatever,,,,,

To clarify, census DOES count LGBTs, along with everyone. Census however does not collect info about sexual orientation or gender identity. Thats an important distinction.

I work in LGBT partnerships at census, and I know there is a lot of concern over these questions. Its an issue many groups part of Our Families Count work on.

LGBTs are included in the total count for Congressional representation and community funding two of the main jobs of the census.

It won't count MY sexual orientation -- because I'm bi and living with a male partner. But my friends who are a lesbian couple together for 30 years will get counted if they fill it out correctly.

Am I missing something? The census doesn't count LGBT people, unless they are cohabitating couples. Also, because transgender people will just mark the gender they identify with, straight trangender people will not be counted at all (i.e., if a transgender woman is living with a man, they will appear as a straight couple -- LGBT status will be lost).

It's a step in the right direction, don't get me wrong, but let's not act like we are all being "counted."
