What a day that was. Sadly my dad and uncle who were there with me that day have since died but iam sure they are both smilling down when they see that video
Remember this game well I was only 12 at the time, every away game in London for a year after the chant of Orient! went up.................LOL all these years later we can laugh at it all now. I even remember some of the Chelsea fans running on to the pitch to get the game abandoned.
It's great supporting a club like Orient. Fantastic real ales and great bars in the ground, and unlike supporting a prem team you don't have to join a que for an hour to catch a train or buy a burger. Much better match day experience than the over hyped premiership and thats coming from someone who has been to number of prem games, but never enjoyed myself as much as down the O's.
This was my first Season as an 8 y.o. and it was fantastic to be at this match with my Dad.
Without his supreme guidance, I may have ended up supporting West Ham - I owed him until he died!
Absolute screamer by Hoadley and a winner by my all time hero Barrie Fairbrother.
Christ would I love us to beat Chelsea now - I despise every Premiership team and their money grabbing, prima dona players, and armchair, plastic 'supporters'.
@lufcfamilyguy12 Hang on, is that the same Aston Villa that's owned by an American multimillionaire? And the same Fulham that were languishing in the bottom division until Mohamed Al Fayed took them over? Check your history.
@EssexBoy696969 I am Barries best mate from those days. At that game, boy did we get p......d that night. Barrie is well and living in Australia. i will phone him and see if he will post something
Ha Ha great stuff, I remember it well but it is still great to see and what about the Chelsea fans singing between 1.32 - 1.40 "Wembley Wembley here we come" even the fans they had then were wankers, granted not as bad as the cunts that follow them now and at least the players then took it on the chin unlike Terry, Drogba and co.

@wwsheriff we had the most vocal fans in english football. there's no chance u would have run your mouth off like that at the shed end in those days. silly little prick
would phil hoadleys nephew and the bloke who new fairbrothers brother get in touch with their mentioned connections and get barrie and phil to post something, assuming they are still with us.
I'm guessing you're his daughter born a couple of years before this game ? I just thought as there were people commenting who say they new the players it would be interesting to hear about the game from a players point of view. especially as your old man scored what must have been the most memorable goal of his career in this match. Hell probably just say, I looked up hit the ball and it went in ! ! Anyway wish him all the best from us old O's fans though he's probably more of a Palace man.
No I am his daughter in law, sorry Phil hates computers. He loves Orient he went back last year I think it was a Testimonial.Watch this space as we have two sons already mad on footie.!
Like many of you, I was there. My brother and I were about 30 rows up behind the goal where Bonetti made a valiant attempt to save Hoadley's drive. What a game! There were Chelsea fans all around us too, but when it was all over, they applauded the O's as well as their own team. Leyton High Rd was solid with supporters after! Although I am a Man Utd Fan and my brother is a Gooner, we lived close to Leyton, so we would go and see games there. What a day though, what an absolutely amazing day!
i was at that game, i used to hang about with barrie fairbrothers younger brother so he got us tickets. as a chelsea supporter when barrie scored the winner i didnt know whether to laugh or cry
As a 17 year old, I was just so excited that all those Chelsea players would be coming to play at Brisbane Road. But on the day, there was just something in the air: even at 0-2, we felt we were still in the game. It was a fantastic day, and our players celebrated the win with us afterwards. A different age.
By the way, the first fan to reach Mickey Bullock after our equalising goal, the nerdy-looking fan with the cocker spaniel hairstyle, and the silk scarf hanging from the waist: that's me.
I remember this match. The result of this and the League Cup Final defeat to Stoke a month later saw the beginning of the end of a cavalier Chelsea side that should have managed at least one title between 1969 and 1973.

After Barrie fairbrother scored Chelsea supporters congregated along the touchlines with the intention of getting the game abandoned but it didn't work. How on earth did peter bonetti ever get his slippery hands anywhere near an england shirt? He was truly awful! As was chopper, webb, houseman etc etc. EFC forever
That team that supposedly never won anything had just beaten Real Madrid to win the Euro Cup Winners Cup 9 months before, beat Leeds to win the FA Cup the year before and in the season of this clip headed to Wembley for the League Cup final. They were a top 6 side for the ten years previous too. If you don't anything, don't say anything.
In the grand scheme of things, Chelsea of that era were awful. They had a couple of fair to middling players at the time, notably Osgood, Cooke and possibly Hudson. Apart from that they were a very, very poor side with a terrible stadium and very violent following!
You're talking crap mate. Chelsea had one of the best sides in the country back then. As someone else has said, if you don't know what you're talking about, why say anything at all?
To aurelian147 and squillary, its you two who are talking crap. Chelsea are a nothing team, with nothing fans. You have no history, all you have now is a very rich owner, THATS IT! Without Abramovic Chelsea are just what Chelsea are, and always have been, a glorified Ale house team. YOURE SHIT< AND YOU KNOW YOU ARE!
Which does beg the question: why waste so much time telling us we're a nothing ale house team? If that were true then we wouldn't even be on your radar. The fact that you've been parrotting that line on this discussion for a month suggests you care about us a lot! Envy gets you nowhere mate.
My knowledge of football is second to none. Also, im a former professional player myself. So please dont try to patronise me because Chelsea have won a couple of trophies and youve actually been attending matches for about 4 or 5 years. Chequebook champions Everton hardly bare comparison with Mr Abramovic and his billions. The 1969/70 team West £30,000, Brown £10,000, Kendall £80,000, Ball £110,000, Morrissey £10,000. All others youth players!
Anyone who thinks Alan Hudson was a "fair to middling player" and that Chelsea team of 1970 was "very, very poor" clearly gets his football knowledge from the blokes down the Nag's Head. I was actually referring to the Everton team from c.1963, when they spent about £300,000 on 5 players. PS. Transfer fees are relative. Have you never heard of inflation?
PPS. Given your playground comments, the massive chip on your shoulder and your breathtaking ignorance of football history, I find it hard to believe that you're more than about 12.
How you feelin today big boy? Now that your messiah has took the walk of shame back to portugal. I say give the job to chopper harris and get chelsea back to their true style of play.....crap!
Bet you aren't sniggering now, especially with the rubbish football your lot serve up on a regular basis! Rather than wallowing in envy and self-pity, why not educate yourself on football or better yet don't try to sound clever, because you'll end up looking silly again. Alan Hudson "fair to middling" indeed. Mug.
I was there also, I remember queuing for a bus afterwards and a fellow O's fan (many years my senior) came up to me and said, 'We have seen the O's beat Chelsea once today - we can now go home and watch tem win again tonight!' Happy memories and I will always remember that day. Up The O's!!
I was there too. It was great to hear the Chelsea fans singing "Wembley here we come!" again on this clip. Us O's fans don't get many times like these.
What a great goal by Phil hoadley to set the O's on thier way to a memorable win. Can't understand the celebration though Phil, a bit over the top don't you think, and how ugly is Fairbrother with that beard.
The beginning of the end, we lost the league cup final the week. And in three years we were in the second division.

My first ever Orient game, got the ticket at 11.00am and made the ground by 13.30.
I was under the floodlight pylon at the north terrace, the end where Phil Hoadely scored.
Saw him hit it, but didn't see it go in.
Chelsea were a fantastic team those days, and to actually beat them, must have been dreaming.
The pitch was shite in those days, collapsed drainage pipes to blame.
A great side for the O's, , from keeper to the forwards.Ian Bowyer went on to star for Nottingham Forest. great memories.
