If nothing else, being unemployed with few prospects and time on your hands is an invitation to all kinds of mischief. Especially when you're young. There's truth to the cliché about "idle hands" and when people, particularly young men, are feeling powerless, they are more inclined to lash out at others. also I have only sympathy for the sick the weak and the disabled these are the people we should we talking about and helping. my dad cant even get his wheelchair into the town hall or the local church its shameful

I also think that this "new" lashing out on gays is partly about the economic crisis. It is the same with hate crimes against immigrants. For some reason people need a scapegoat when their own lives are going bad and I guess minority groups are an easy target because we are not as protected under the law, and we are not completeley socially accepted yet.

I'm a girl, and I think Gareth Thomas is fucking beautiful for being out. And ironically, he's one of the least "pretty" and most rugged-looking Rugby players in the League. So much for the stereotype that all gay men look metrosexual.

Rugby is probably the most gay-friendly sport out there, though. If a guy currently active in any other sport came out, his career would be pretty much over. It's great that most rugby fans that I know have the class to be accepting of Gareth.

And i'm gay, but hearing " he's queer, he's bent, his arse is up for rent" made me chuckle :)
