I have two shih tzu~ a little black female who tolerates grooming and a big male who actually seems to enjoy it. they both let me put bands in their topknots because I think they like to see. I really work at keeping them free from mats so that I dont have to pull when brushing or combing. When I do come across one it takes, My male has a heavy coat and is entering that time when matting becomes more likely so.. wish me luck ;)

Also if you know this breed of dog you can see where there were mats as the hair get's fluffy and damaged! you just have to many bad comments on here and your trying to defend you actions! You are more concerned about the look of your dog than it's emotional health! My dog would sit there for hrs but I limit her sessions and reward her with love,and a walk!

I know you love your dog. I have two puppy Shih tzu that my husband bought me for x.mas they are adorable!!! I love your video and how you take very good care of your dogs hair. Shih tzu are very high maintanence and need a lot of brushing. I cannot wait for my puppys hair to get longer so I can put there first bow in. They are two boys. People whom have never had Shit tzu's for a pet have no idea how much time it takes to brush.
Don`t you knw, that in the United States and countries far over there, owners held furdogs in cages to keep the coat. In Norway and Scandinavia our have dogs live a dog's life and therefore we brush their coat. If you will see more of my videos, you can see it on my profile.

Wow, Other than my male winston and his half sister from the litter after his, have I seen an aprocot blond with solid coloring. The color is beautiful in long form....(I keep my boy in puppy cut to accomidate our lifestyle) so beautiful!
She did a great job but I feel sorry for the dog. She's so mechanical and just seems to jerk the dogs head up without any words of praise or encourgement. I realize the dog is used to being groomed but have a heart - say something nice and be tender!
I think it's a little overdone. Looks like it hurts! at least give her a little praise for being so good. But she is beatiful and I think she woul still be beatiful without all the hair pulling. I'm just saying what's in it for her

The dog is beautiful, but I don't see any care in showing the dog hes or she is safe, I'm sure that it is used to it by now but no matter how many times I groom my dog I take time to pet her tell her its ok and even give her a kiss. I have worked for groomers before and I think showing affection is very important show dog or not its still a dog!!!!
well, i myself have worked in 2 grooming and boarding kennels and when you are gettin knots out of a dogs fur, you should be holding the base of the fur so that when u pull, u are not yanking on their skin ( or their eye lids) but, thats just my opinion. other then that though, the dog seems to be fine, and in no pain. if i dog had soemthing to say to its owner, trust me it would with a yelp or a bite. nice dog anyways. i have 2 blacks of my own, long hair aswell. :)

It's necessary to make pony tales like these, to keep the dog in good health. The dog is used to this from training at an early state of life, and he probably enjoys it too. People shouldn't talk too much about things they don't have a clue about! This dog had a great home when the video was recorded, I can guarantee it. :)

an you might want to use a chin pillow so that you don't have to pull the head up constantly and the rubber bands shouldn't be so tight i understand they like to be pampered but not torchered
i do agree that you are very rough with the grooming about 1 minute 40 seconds into the video you pretty much ripped a bunch of hair out and if you used a sliker brush this wouldn't happen and i am saying from expirience i breed both shitzu's and siberian huskies and none like haveing their hair ripped out but i admire how beautiful his/her coat is

I have to repit my self: I made this video for a friend that was new with Shih Tzu's and she wanted to know how much hair went in each separate part of the knot. Thats why I repeat the process over and over again. Not to get it 'better'. You might notice that I keep turning the head to the side so that it will be easier to see what I am doing. The process is obviously much faster than in this video as soon as you get the hang of it.

Howeeeevvvver it is unnecessary to push and jerk their heads around as shown on this video.And the topknot is too tight,it should not be pulling the dogs eyelids upward like this.I was waiting for the dogs eyes to literally pop out of their sockets,which is not an uncommon occurrence in shih tzu's.

It's necessary to make pony tales like these, to keep the dog in good health. The dog is used to this from training at an early state of life, and he probably enjoys it too. People shouldn't talk too much about things they don't have a clue about! This dog had a great home when the video was recorded, I can guarantee it. :)

This is a ugly and mean woman I dont think it is necessary for all the rubber bands this dog is not happy, how would you like your pelvic hair grown out and rubber banded. Also u can she is wicked by her long ugly nails

I have owned Shih Tzus both show coats & pet clips & worked as a groomer. Loosen those elastics.

I have a question my shih tzus face is getting trimed above her nose at the groomer she is about 7 months old does there hair grow any faster when they get trimed because I want mine like that and I read how to prevent the tear stains. is there hair slower to grow as a puppy?

OMG!! True- groomers are generally rough. BUT my God- she knew she was being taped. Didn't she have sense enugh to pretend to be gentle. Maybe a little cooing instead of just jerking the dogs heas. Godd grief. I'd NEVER take my dog to this person.

I agree with all the following comments.Have to add that his eyes are suppost to be able to shut-notice the end clip his eyes are bugged out and hard to shut properly..some groomers just dont get the fact that they need to handle with care and a pillow should have been used here like someone else had said..good grief!

an you might want to use a chin pillow so that you don't have to pull the head up constantly and the rubber bands shouldn't be so tight i understand they like to be pampered but not torchered

i do agree that you are very rough with the grooming about 1 minute 40 seconds into the video you pretty much ripped a bunch of hair out and if you used a sliker brush this wouldn't happen and i am saying from expirience i breed both shitzu's and siberian huskies and none like haveing their hair ripped out but i admire how beautiful his/her coat is

I try to get my baby his hair longer but he was always figthing me . But its ok he looks more happy with short haire and i dont have time to do this everyday ... You dog is very beutifull but look like it doesnt like it ...

I have to repit my self: I made this video for a friend that was new with Shih Tzu's and she wanted to know how much hair went in each separate part of the knot. Thats why I repeat the process over and over again. Not to get it 'better'. You might notice that I keep turning the head to the side so that it will be easier to see what I am doing. The process is obviously much faster than in this video as soon as you get the hang of it.

My maltese is kept in a short cut but i still brush him every night. I always tell: it's tough to be beautiful!!! LOL

beautiful long haired shih tzu, but i feel sorry for him enduring this rough grooming routine! and he must have to be brushed all the time! my 2 shih tzus are very happy to have short coats, or puppy cuts in the winter. sometimes i give my boy Pyro a mohawk in the summer. super cool! :P

The difference between this lady and me, is that I make that topknot in like five sekunds, and she is making it over and over again I would go crazy and it doesn't get any better. And one more thing: I let my dog lie down on a pillow...
For others, this is not poor little guy, he is beautiful dog, with a very nice "hair".

I also breed and show tzu's,and i understand the importance of regular grooming.
Howeeeevvvver it is unnecessary to push and jerk their heads around as shown on this video.And the topknot is too tight,it should not be pulling the dogs eyelids upward like this.I was waiting for the dogs eyes to literally pop out of their sockets,which is not an uncommon occurrence in shih tzu's.
