  • Next expedition for the search of Irvine will be conduct exclusively by Sherpas.........

I'm sure they'll found him.....As the world already knows, no one expedition will be possible without Sherpas...

  • These boys were wearing wool, silk, cotton, and leather boots w/screws through them. So much respect. Not to mention the unknown navigation they encountered. These men are on the same level as the greatest explorers ever. Its just a shame what the mountain has become.

  • I think the Chinese have the camera along with the film of Mallory's and Irvine's summit. If you remember, Qu Yinhua whileon the Chinese expedition of 1960 said he found a dead European. To this date no one has ever found any evidence of a body in the area. Further, toward his death when pushed Noel Odell swears he saw Mallory and Irvine above the second step nearing the peak. They made it. Summit fever killed them, should have turned back and waited another year.

  • fantastic!

all my class have loked it! we like it because we understand it very well

    congratulations for the video! :)

  • Like if you found out about George Mallory through Paths of Glory.

  • I think they died after a successful summit..it remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries ever.I hope they find Irvine and the camera, the only remaining clue to what happened.I dont agree it will diminish what Hillary and Tenzing did..they would remain the first to truly conquer the mountain as they got back down.

  • Love the video and great music too.

  • Epic, EPIC song choice! Video gives me chills every time I watch it! Would be AMAZING if we found Irvine and that camera! .. I bet they summited :)

  • george saab,,,u r the first man ever who climbed mt. everest,,,,i believe this...may ur soul rest in peace,....

  • This is one of the best vids I saw in a while. Look at their gear and think if you can make it to the top with their gear!!!

  • Real heroes! 1924 and the attempt of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine was very very brave because of hardly any equipment, they reached 8200 meters and after Mallory was fallen to his death he lay half covered in snow for a astonishing 75 years and was found in 1999. Did he reached the top? Nobody knows....his camera (vpk) is still not found; on could maybe have the photos with George and Andrew standing on top of Everest on it. R.I.P.

Let someone find that camera please....for now R.I.P.

  • Climbers have since made the second step using only the gear carried by Mallory. Most now assume he probably made it. The trick, of course, is getting back...

  • Guys if you want read the book "Paths of Glroy" by Jeffrey Archer, is about Mallory, one of the best book I've read so far :)

  • @stefanotwin

Definitly one of the best books. What an extraordinary story.

Why climb the Everest? Because it is there...

  • @shaltiel613 inspiring i'd say, just finished reading the book again eheh

  • @stefanotwin Totally agree with you there. I just finished reading it. At first i wasn't sure if its a true story because i thought Jeffrey Archer is a fictional writer but ill be damned its true.

  • may i say what true champions these men were they were so brave and to do what they did with the gear they had back then is overwhelming to me i pray that mountaineer dun can chessell will find you and the camera equipment .may god be with your every step good luck .

  • COOL!!!!!!! AWESOME!!

  • @Satori19 that's part of the oxygen bottles they were carrying

  • @escalador78 BACK WHEN MEN WHERE MEN AND COURAGE AND COUNTRY MEANT ALOT.

  • A good video in tribute to those 2 pioneers who tried to climb Mt. Everest. While it is easier now to do it based on previous info, Mallory & Irvine had a more challenging task because no one before- hand had climbed that high and leave a known record as to what to expect.

  • these were men

    climb free

    brothers..

  • Nunca lo sabremos, pero creo que Mallory si que lo consiguio y fallecio en el descenso.Gloria a aquellos que sin los medios de hoy hicieron hazañas casi imposibles.Irving, mallory my respect and admiration.

  • Chipper, On the route your right and I should have read more about the routes. Both routes have steps and I got confused here. I apologize on that point. Still,.. there are more facts pointing they could not have reach the summit on that day. I will resume them and let you know for your comments. On the Idiot thing, ... amazing,... you concurr there with my beautifull wife's comment. I respect much the efforts of M. & I. and their high place among climbers.

  • They never made it. They started late and were late on that day, far from the summit, weather getting worse, and another climber told them to quit. Weather here is everything. Irvine was no escalator, and Step 2 require an alpine escalator skill and so on more and more facts. Step 2 was finnally resolved by Hillary and Tenzing who arrived earlier by hours and in good weather ( thers an aluminium stair now) The tragedy was Mallory's fault, knowing Irvine was no escalator, he was an athlete.

  • Idiot! Hillary & Tenzing went up by the South Col route - not the North side where the first & second steps are.

  • also "paths of glory" by J Archer has been brought by sony pictures. from rumours that i have heard Christian Bale and David Tennaut are considering the role of Mallory.

And lastly there is a new documentry on Mallory coming out March 2010 you can find the trailer for it on youtube. just type wildest dream mallory.

  • at the age 8 when my dad first told me of George Mallory while out walking on snowy december morning, i have researched the 3 expeditions of 1920's i have read all the books and seen documentries. i believe that Mallory did make it to the top and left the photo of his wife Ruth ontop of the summit like he promised.

I also believe that one day Sandy Irvine will be found with the camera which holds the evidence that they did make it to the top. they made to the top but never returned.

  • @maverick21tomcat

Good on you mate, mallory had the kind of mad bravery that enables men to prevail, and it might just have been his day

  • @petere101 you're right mate! that was pure adventure and will to get to the limits for mankind!

  • I would say the whole deal with the photo of his wife missing and the goggles in his pocket combined with the fact that the way he died suggests them being descending, I think they made it to.

  • Just finished reading his book and I cannot believe people have doubts that he made it... the only place the phote would have been left was on the summit...

    Both are real heroes......

  • I totally agree with you. He left the photo of his wife on the summit !!! No doubt about it !!! They did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Regards comeonyoulions, George

  • In my opinion, and in my dreams, Mallory and Irvine reached the summit. I don't know the way, it's not important, ma they were there !!! THEY ARE THERE !!!

  • D.E.P

  • muy bonito el video!!!

  • Gracias por video!

  • Great Video

  • Dis man,George mallory stands as an epitome of courage and determination for me who sacrificed everything in his life for jst conquering as he descibes "Chomolungma,Goddess Mother of the earth"..

  • Hats off to escalador78 for dis video..i'm in no doubt dat dey did make it to summit..ppl. mite always believe it to be a pyrrhic victory..bt still isnt dis wat going out for your dreams mean??

  • the more i read about mallory the more i beleive he and irvine got there in 1924. they would not accept anything less. best quote ever from mallory. " why climb everest ? " " because its there ! "

  • i too believe mallory and irvine made it..no one with a determination as strong as mallory would leave his dream unfulfilled when he is few feet from the summit of Chomolungma

  • Just read Power of Glory, but did Mallory reach the summit or is it Archer's fantasy?

  • in the beginning of the book when they found his body, they didn't find the pic of Ruth, which he always carried with him, but, they did find a letter from her. I believe he made it and left her pic on the summit. great book

  • I reckon he made it and sooner or later the proof will come.

  • lets find andrew irvine.

  • just read paths of glory, well done archie. a muse of maidens in defeat

  • There are reasons tobelieve that they made it.Mallory always carrried his wife's photo in his pocket and had told her that he would leave it at the top of everest when he conquers. When his body was found the photograph was missing...

  • Absolutely right. To be more accurate; Mallory did indeed carry a picture of his wife Ruth in his wallet; a picture he had taken of her on their honeymoon. In one of his letters to Ruth during his last trip he wrote that he would leave the picture on top of the mountain when he made it to the peak. It was a trademark he had picked up from Geoffrey Young.

  • The absence of Ruth's picture in Mallory's wallet when his body was found is strong evidence that he made the summit. In addition, when Mallory's body was found his snow goggles were in his pocket, suggesting that he was moving after nightfall, the conclusion being that he was on his way down from the peak.

  • Sorry but thats incredible flimsy evidence and thats being generous. Besides as Ed put it " I always considered it a 2 way expedition" i

  • Think, what would it be like today if they had made it back?

  • and with such poor equipment wherever they reached at last..its a great achievment!!

  • I get a tickling sensation on my back....

  • did they made it.......???i wish i knew....

  • It is believed widely that they did not.

  • i ve read a book...the gosts of everest..written from those who found mallory s body in 1999...and some proofs on it..and there are possibilities they had reached the top...we may know for sure if someone finds the body of the other climber, andrew irvine

  • BRAVO....excellent video..

  • Interesting clip. Who produced the modern dramatization of Mallory & co. and why? I didn't realize Irvine was so young when he died--just 21 or 22. I wonder if we'll ever know for sure if they made it to the top. I'm guessing they didn't, but what do I know?

  • What a beautifull clip this is!

  • can anyone tell me if they are making a film about mallory, i've heard rumours that ralph fiennes or christian bale are auditioning for the part of mallory. but who would play irvine.

  • Mallorymania, I doubt very much, whatever your disagreements with him, that SSRMAY is a "fiend", or that he is even on the make for one! I have found him to be well-tempered and certainly well-read on this topic. Insert that missing consonant 'twixt the "f" and the "i" and approach the matter in that spirit and I am sure you will discover that you have plenty of common, umm, ground. Cheers!

  • Yeah, it's nice that there are so many Mallory fans out there. Not sure what he would make of it though !! Cheers.

  • Stop bitching - read tom and audrey's book and give a considered opinion. Mallory and Irvine are legends due partly to the nature of their deaths. George's spirit embodies the boldness of that time and the fact that this was something worth dying for (to him) should be revered and not trivialised, go out a bit mmore.

  • ROFLMFAO! coming from somebody who took the time to sign up to youtube under the name "Mallorymania" specifically to tell others to "get out more" LOL!! basic irony at it's best!

  • A tenuous link with irony there. Doesn't take long to sign up, far less than to whinge on and on with message upon message. Go out, it's a lovely day. You might make a fiend.

  • a tenuous link, but a link nevertheless! ha ha!

It is a lovely day, well spotted MM. Can't go out though....gainfull employment is such a tedious business and yet oh so necessary is it not? I suppose if i were to go out I might get the sack, then again think of the advantages......I might make a "fiend" ha ha!

  • Nice one. gsoh you;re not so bad after all. Remember work is a 4 letter word !!

  • ain't it just! anyhow I'd better be off - Big Brother is watching me! ha ha!

  • the old climbing gear of the 20s to climb the 2nd step.and all the other guys who claim that mallory could have climbed it want to make money with it.conrad anker first said that he s sure that m.couldnt climb it , then he was part of a movie about mallory, and suddenly he said "it is possible" (the movie suggests they climbed everest).whatever, sad they died, especially irvine who was only 22 at the time of his death.he shouldnt have been up there.

  • SSRMAY your points are well-taken, the thought occurs though that perhaps you believed I intended some slight against Irvine. Be assured I did not. In light of Irvine's relative inexperience I am perhaps most in awe of his accomplishments, truly amazing! Thus said, I still think Odell would have been the better choice, particularly in light of the fact that he was thoroughly acclimatized and was a more experienced climber than Irvine.

  • A slight confusion & I apologize if my first reply seemed as if I were upset, I didn't think your comment a slight on Irvine. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on Mallory's thinking. Having said that, one thing is for sure.....if Mallory slipped & fell leaving Irvine alone on the north-east ridge his inexperience may very well have played a decisive role in Irvine's death. Odell in the same situation would have fared better.

  • you are a funny guy, you know that?????????? how could mallory fall and leave irvine behind, if they were roped together???????????if one of them really fell, he would have taken the other down with him

  • Mallory was found with a section of broken hemp around his waist & a "barndoor" skull fracture in his forehead indicating a fall of around 200m. Mallory fell, that much is fact. Knowing that the hemp around Mallory's waist was broken, in correlation with the fact that bruising was still observable on his torso, shows us that Irvine attempted to arrest the fall by jerking the rope. This caused the snap in the rope........

  • this principle works in much the same way as in the case of the 1st ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 - in arresting a fall by pulling back on the shared rope a snap occured leaving those behind the break in their original position and those in front of the break falling.

  • actually there were no big injuries found on mallory s body, therefore people assume that he did NOT take a huge fall

  • actually there was a big fucking hole above one of his eyes, a clean skuill fracture, which likely would have seen him dead within a few seconds. Also one of his legs had suffered a clean break. Perhaps those are not "big injuries" to you, but they seem pretty big to just about everybody else especially given the fact that they cost the man his life. Don't know who you are, but you're the 1st person i've come across -purporting to know what they're talking about-who thinks Mallory did'nt fall

  • If not a fall then how would Mallory have sustained such severe rope-jerk bruising? If not a fall then how would Mallory have sustained his skull & leg breaks, if not a fall then why would'nt Mallory & Irvine's body's have been found roped together? if not a fall then why was there a jerk-break in the rope between the two? If not a fall then why were Mallory's goggles found crushed in his pocket? One of us is a "funny guy", perhaps you'd like to (a)look in the mirror (b)read up on this subject

  • well.i got that from wikipedia, honey.there it says that he had no injuries which would indicate a huge fall.but i didnt say he didnt fall.i m sure he fell, want i wanted to say with the rope thing is that irvine fell with him, actually most people assume that irvine fell, because he was far from being as experienced as mallory.but doesnt matter, cause they couldnt make the 2nd step, didnt reach the top of everest.reinhold messner himself said that it is impossible with

  • Wikipedia??? You might as well ask your milkman

  • Well done! A nice tribute to not only Mallory and Irvine, but the(oftentimes foolhardy) human spirit as well. It is an easily overlooked fact that Mallory was a climber of unparalleled ability and determination, that he chose Irvine to accompany him on his summit attempt rather than Odell is perhaps as big a mystery as the question of whether or not the two men summitted . . .

  • not much of a mystery mate. Two attempts had already been made in '21 & '22 w/o supp. oxygen. both came close but failed. This time Mallory decided on the o2. Odell was 34y/o, diminutive & the Geology professor type. Irvine was 21y/o, 6ft +, had justed powered the oxford boat to victory over camb. & was a mechanical engineering grad who knew better than any other on the expedition how to use & improve the oxygen equip. Mallory's choice is rational, logical & makes sense to me.

  • my mum told me that i'm related to him

  • ur a sick fuck.that s all ur

  • i'am related to george mallory

  • i'am related to george mallory

  • also i've heard that there making a movie about mallory, played by christian bale, the producers first choice was jude law but found out that he was afraid of heights(thats hollywood for you).

  • very good footage of the actors playing mallory and irvine, is that from a movie about mallory,or documantery

  • my understanding was that it would have been possable for mallory to climb the second step

without modern gear, as conrad ankor did so without much problem, after the ladder on the second step was removed,so i think it unlikley it was 100% impossible for mallory to do it.

  • "Chevaliers de SangReal", de Hans Zimmer. Es de la pelicula "El Codigo DaVinci".

  • actually it is commonly known that they didnt reach the summit. they reached the so called second step on everest.all mountaineers agree that with the old climbing gear of 1924 it is impossible that they could have managed to climb this obstacle.but nice vid

  • Yes, it's more likely that they didn't make it. However, some people say or want to believe they (or only one of them) reached the summit. I guess the mistery could be solved if Irvine's body and the Kodak camera were found.

    Meanwhile, the mistery goes on.

  • Actually, it is not commonly known that they didn't reach the summit. All that is commonly known at this point is that they died, most likely on the descent...but the descent from which point is unknown. As I always tell audiences when I present my slideshow on the mystery of Mallory & Irvine: We have no proof that Mallory & Irvine reached the top on June 8, 1924...and we also have absolutely no proof that they did NOT reach the top that day. Simply put, it is a mystery, deep and intriguing.

  • that is CRAP.reinhold messner himself (who is maybe the biggest fan of mallory who ever lived and would love the idea that he and irvine could have done it) says that it is absolutely 100 per cent IMPOSSIBLE that they could have climbed the so called 2nd step with the simple climbing gear they had.and there is no way around that obstacle.period.i dont know where you have your information from, but i guess you make money with your slideshows and a cool mystery sells pretty good i guess......

  • Actually, I have my information from being a member of the 1999 expedition that found Mallory, being there again in 2001, '03, & '04, climbing the 2nd Step (which Messner didn't do)...lots of other things. But, you have your opinion, I have mine. That's the nice thing about a mystery. Cheers - Jake Norton

  • listen dude. i 've "met" dozens of pple on youtube who enjoyed pretending to be a friend of a famous person, or to have climbed everest.Others say they are physicians..stuff like that.and bit by bit I found out that they are nothing but FUCKING LIARS.

  • staknort,You are an idiot.

  • So could they have climbed the 2nd step in your opinion?

  • Does reinhold say it is 100% impossible for Ankar to have made it using the same gear Mallory had? It's been done. That does not prove Mallory did it, it only proves he could have done it. Reinhold was wrong. We can only hople the camera is found.

  • motherfucker

  • ur a motherfucker.mallory and irvine couldnt have done it.and everybody knows that.stop telling lies you pathetic piece of shit

  • Impossible? ha ha ha

  • Not all mountaineers agree. It has been done, using the same equipment as Mallory had. But all mountaineers have never agreed on this issue. There has always been those on both sides of the issue.

  • @staknort Mallory's letter to his wife, promised by G. to be placed on the summit, was not with his body. Mallory was a fearless climber with unusual skills. Given his motivation, perhaps he overcame the second step and did summit.
