i like your thinking, my idea was to have a motor with the uphaul going one way around the wind, and the down haul going the opposite, so when the uphaul is winched, the down haul will be let off, and when turned the other way the uphaul will be released and the downhaul pulled, i havent put this into practise yet but one day i will.
@willvd1697 This works the same way... Here a modified servo is used, but it might be better to use a little bit bigger motor and some gears, to get more power and speed. I have not developed the system further, don't know when it will be put in a boat...
