@telstar68 -- I think most people with knowledge would say that in most cases surgical technique is not implicated in ASR failure. See the recent article Disappointing Short-Term Results with the DePuy XL Metal-on-Metal Total Arthroplasty by Bernthal, et al. in The Journal of Arthroplasty. In that single surgeon study, 28.6% of 70 ASRs demonstrated dysfunction within five years (17.1% required revision within three years) and failures did not correlate with cup placement.

My dad had this. He just went in for surgery for a new hip today.. they caused him alot of pain.
