im about to buy an 02 or possibly an 03 Astro how can i tell if its a RWD or an AWD astro ...it only has 66644 miles on it and its been sitting for about 8 months . i test drove it and it runs fine. i also plugged in my OBDII scanner to see if it had any electrical issues..i found none...im buying it from a resort for 600 dollars.. let me know what yoo think... lol

The black smoke could just be from an overly rich state of tune to play it safe. Turbo cars don't like to be run lean, a good rule of thumb is to lean out to the minimum safe amount of fuel the engine needs to run clean and cool. And then richen it up just a bit from there, as a bit of a cushion if you ever get an over boost situation it'll keep your motor alive. This van is such a sleeper, it must be fun to race kids in Honda's. The look of disgust would be priceless getting beat by a van

Could be a typhoon/cyclone mitsu turbo 4.3L V6, but probly vortec 4.3, watch the rod bearings on those 4.3's GM uses a low volume 305 oil pump instead of the high volume 350 oil pump like it should have, or run synthetic to get most life outta that crappy motor GM designed.

LOL no it has a real turbo........You can hear it began to spool up and then you can hear the turbo fan slowing down......If it was a fake it would get louder as the RPM's went up and would have been quite when he let off of the gas

theres no such thing as a "car specific turbo" just turbo specific exhaust manifolds, which would only be needed if you wanted it in your engine bay. its alot easier to just put it further back in the exhaust, and then its all universal

Funny you mention that GMC Syclones, I actually have one in the garage. But no the turbo/kit is completely different from the Syclone. On the astro we actually had to mount the turbo right about where the manifold ends because of the lack of space under the hood.

My friend hand built a 5.8 v10... in his van. No fire wall, no dash, no nothing. Nice piece of shit paint job complete with rust and fade. But man will that van run. It doesn't spin at the start. It just shits and gets. I love decisive cars!

Well the turbo kit was really pretty cheap, can't quite remember how much it was but it was a going out of business sale someone was having and got the turbo the waste gate and all the piping for really cheap.
