@skyrider1792 Sometimes for dog shows. But, I have recently heard they do it so boxers won't break their tails hitting it against something. I've heard a few people say their boxer's non-docked tails would break if they hit something really hard.

@skyrider1792 in the early stages they cropped tails and ears because they would get damaged during the hunt then they did it for show now some owners decide not to crop but boxers with their tails still injure them from wagging too hard

We have 2 of these and they are awsome pets.We just lost our Max a 11 year old Rotti 10/26/10 . I got these last year when they were 8 weeks old.I new Max was getting old and wasnt going to live long.So we got the boys to help with the pain we were going to have.Just really great dogs Buster and Tyson :)

I have boxer. His name is Mosley.everyday when I come home I get to see his little tail wiggle.the only reason why we got his tail docked was because that boxer dogs aren't true purebred dogs unless they have docked tails.

My Boxer still has his tail. There is nothing better than coming home and seeing that tail in a mad whipping frenzy. TAILS ON!! Maybe someone should come and cut an apendage off some people, because they prefer the look. It is now illegal to cut tails and crop ears in Australia. And that is the way it should be!!!!!!

@MegaArchiebald I understand making cropping the ears illegal, in fact I hope they do that everywhere. But from experience if a boxers tail isn't cut early it runs the high risk of shattering it and being in excruciating pain until it can be removed.

Although if that is true for all dogs then i agree it's not fair. The unfortunate thing where I live is you cant find a legal breeder that doesn't cut the tails because it is mandatory for Boxer breeding, or they lose their license :(

@ShaeBaeful My Boxer, Archie, still has his tail and there has been no problem with it what so ever. The tail shattering is a myth, it can happen in any dog, and very very very rarely happens. That is why it is illegal here in Australia to crop a dogs tail unless for medical reasons only. ie a problem has occured. The American Kennel Association is the one rsponsible for promoting this habit, so that people can show their dogs without any deformities.

My dogs do this! One of my dogs (who sadly passed away 2 years ago) had a tail though so sometimes it hit off things and bled and needed bandaging. I see why people get them docked, however in the UK it's now illegal to have docked tails on dogs so all dogs have long tails, which is abit annoying because some dogs are probably better off without tails such as working dogs.
