@chkjns But the attack depicted in "The Battle of Algiers" against the Milk Bar and the Cafeteria during which a kid is listening to "Rebecca" on the juke box, occurred on September 30, 1956. So 1959 is not the right year, is it?

@mdnis wiki may be wrong, but it says THIS recording was done by Chakachas in 1959. I have not seen the film. I do not know when Rebecca was first written. But if yousaw this film in 1959 you would have heard this exact music. The idea of my lists for every year since 1900 is to let you hear sounds you would have heard that year. Sometimes a song entered the public consciousness many many years after originally written or performed when someone else produced a catchier version. Are we OK? chuck

This is such a horrible version of the song!! Was it really on the Battle of Algiers soundtrack?? This is a disco song when disco had not even been invented when the original song was recorded lol.
