This is an absolute wonderfully sad, poignant song, saw Sam in Sheffield, england last year, spine tingling performance, planning a trip to see him in Texas, can't wait.
Everyone has just listened to it on the radio,i was out in the kitchen a few minutes ago,not even 10 minutes when i heard it,great feelings behind the song, this coming from Ireland
Today his performance on the dutch tv-programme "Vrije Geluiden" (Free Sounds) was rebroadcasted, but without the backgroundinformation, just the song. It froze me, too, only to move to put my surroundset on, and give the performance the sound it should have. What an intensity this has. What a story, what a man, what a song.
This morning I woke up...went to the kitchen...and heard Sam Baker on the great CKUA radio network based in Edmonton. I literally stopped in my tracks...stood...and listened to the whole song. I saw him at the Edmonton folk fest this year and shit...what a great song writer...what a shocking story behind it...and you can feel that moment on the train and his emotions laid bare in every song he plays. I love the way he picks out the details of the characters in his songs. GREAT SHIT.
Indeed tinus, saw it on ' vrije geluiden' today and that's what brought me here. The sadness of what he's been through reflects in his songs.....wonderfull!
@DoeMaarEenPilsje Yes. Totally totally wonderful. I wonder if under the same circumstances...would I be able to forgive like Sam has done?! I really don't know. But I am very grateful for Sam and his music! :-)
just saw him in Newcastle voice aint great, guitar playing aint great but a privilege to see him, total engagement with a packed Cluny2, and the audience just loved him back. Superb lyrics and a great presence
Sam Baker and Gurf Morlix often perform together. It is a privilege to be in the presence of such authenticity in songwriting and in humanity. An honour it is to meet them both, sincerely.
I don't know if anybody mentioned it but part of the reason his guitar playing is so rough is that he had to re-teach himself to play using the opposite hands after he was injured in the bombing.
My dad introduced me to Sam a few nights ago and I have to say it was love at first listen lol. The story behind this song is so awful it amazes me how he could write something so beautiful about it
Iv'e watched this video now about six times and, his playing is cumbersome and clumbsy, his voice is gruff, his appearance is a bit 60's [ish] ....but Jesus his performance is breathtaking, his songwriting brilliant, and his overall delivery is absolutely magnificent ....exquisite....WOW..!!!
One of the most genuine performers of our time...I've mailed with Sam a few times - he's a wonderfully self effacing guy - I've not met him in the flesh yet, but I understand he comes round, he presses flesh with folks, has a chat when he can.......Broken Fingers tells an important part of his story....that guy lays his soul bare. Its hard listening sometimes because of that, but its always worthwhile listening. WOW indeed :-) :-) :-)
He's just brilliant, and that brilliance kind of sneaks up on you until you realize you've been blindsided and are in the presence of something incredible. I can't say enough good things about this guy or his music. Go see him if you get the chance, and buy his CDs.
Lucky enough to see Sam last night at 'the little theatre' ... lovely songs & performance. If you get the chance ....go see him....even the Angel smiled ;-)

One of the most haunting wonderful songs I have ever heard. Makes me cry every time I hear it. The
harmonica is so poignant....just like someone screaming with pain. Absolute perfection.
