They actually didn't. Emo (as you would call it) is all about heart break, depression and wanting to die, however if you bothered to listen to The Awakening it is all positive and about life, and finding love.

The only reason the albums before were about heart break is because Andy (lead singer) was in love with his ex girlfriend, and couldn't get over her, but that changed.
