  • wow, SO much speed

  • Sped up...

  • Wow!!! Outside of the program get even better!

  • She did....43 rotations!!! If I counted right it was sooo fast!! Amazing

  • @Caat86 Ya. i don't think its fair that kayla gets credit for a spin others have been doing for ages. and @lolmonkey98 she was like 13 or something

  • How old is she there? Can some one please tell me? :)

  • wow. just wow. how can she do that? i wish i could. shes a great skater, i dont think i'll ever get to that level but im going to try what she just did to see if i can.

  • if she where to get her jumps consistent and skate a little faster she could be unbeatable

  • the best among the ladies these days

  • isnt that a kaylA catch spin?

  • she is allowed to do the kayla catch position lucy980511!!!

  • she takes the meaning of flexibility to another level....WOW

  • she may not be the best jumper, but her laybacks are.. damn!!! fxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx gorgeous!! hehe

  • Caroline Zhang does the pearl spin better than Nathalie Krieg and Kayla combined. You can try to disagree with me on that, but I still believe that it is so.

  • most beautiful spin I have ever seen

  • HO-LY crap.

that was crazy dude. haha i'm working on laybacks right now, and that one looked flippin' frightening

  • that was hella fast!

  • The best layback ever.

  • wow...almost as good as the one in family guy performed by the straight guy in the figure skating competition.

  • whats her fs level

  • LOL she is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past fs... she's senior

  • probably like 13,000,000

  • wow

  • when she pulled her leg before going to hyper extended biellmann..the position looked like a star:)

  • she is beautiful

  • shes an amazing skater with true ability... her spins are so fast and so controlled.. its almost out of this world.

  • Stunning!

  • it was soooo exciting... caroline zhang went to my rink 4 a while, i think east west waz closed, so she came to mine...awesome! but it was 2 crowded 4 her to do the pearl spin...she is so nice

  • omg!!!

    she is sooooo flexible!!!

  • LSp4 - +3

  • omg, her biellmann spin was amazing!! really amazing!

  • wow. really good! does any one know how old she is?

  • 14..15 this year

  • I Think She Around 15-17 ?

  • her age? she's 13 in the vid, 15 now.

  • all the skaters now have no chance against her in the 2010 olympics

  • well, i thought it was an interesting song choice...hmm fergie+figureskating = o_O

but i absolutely love Caroline Zhang

  • not exactly the best lyrics for a little girl. Not her choice though. it was just an encore.

  • That's just scary. Something like that is so amazing and unbelievable it's scary. Caroline rocks! Zhang for 2010!

  • mental what a legend she will be world champion very soon

  • nicely done;-)

  • WOW

  • Girl can spin! Look at how centered!

  • but she's still VERY flexible =)

  • i think caroline is losing some of her flexibility because of her growth spurt

she doesn't bend her back as much anymore when she's doing her layback spin

and ji eun choi does do a spin ALOT like the pearl

  • Awesome ! Terrific !

  • Wow ... that was amazing =O

I just watched the Kayla Catch and people were saying that this skater invented it. From what I can see, and I could easily be wrong, they are not the same position: Kayla's skate is directly above her head while Caroline's is on her shoulder.

  • Well, at about 24 seconds into the clip, Caroline does have her skate roughly where her head is. And then later she even pulls it down even further toward her shoulder. But seriously, having the skate on the shoulder is even more extreme than having it on the head. But, check out the extreme layback spin from Caroline, and her very fast speed.

  • Yeah I do think this one is more extravagant than Kayla's just for the pure speed and change of positions. I just thought it needed clarifying that it wasn't exactly the same as Kayla's and she should be credited for her spin, that's all ^^ . (By above, I mean like in front of her face)

  • just amazing!!

  • well if Ji Eun Choi did invent it how come no one knew about it until Caroline did it in her free skate

  • because Caroline has more popularity for being a young American skater, whereas Ji Eun Choi is Korean and not as well known. The only well known korean is of course yu-na kim and that would be because she is pretty much golden in all aspects of her skating.

  • How can it be 'invented' when it is really a bielmann spin (with a minor difference only)?

  • are you saying the pearl is a minor difference? bc i would say it is a MAJOR change from a bielmann. now if you mean that end part of that combo, yeah, i agree that it really is like a beilmann.

  • I agree absolutely that it is a major change 'in appearance' when compared with the bielmann spin. Although, technically, it is really a minor change from the bielmann. The change is that one has small amount of knee bend, with arms extended out, and the other has lots of knee bend, with arms necessarily pulled in because the arms need to be holding the skate.

  • i think we may be talking about different parts of the spin...the position at 0:17 (and other times, but i just chose 0:17) seems to be pretty different from the beilmann technically. when she does the pearl, her back and free leg are both just about parallel to the ice (which i find absolutely insane!)

  • Ji Eun Choi invented this "pearl" spin, not Caroline. She isn't that well known but i think she should... she even did a flying layback.

  • Is there any record that Ji Eun Choi did the pearl?

  • Many considers Ji Eun Choi to be the inventor of the Pearl. Caroline just popularized this spin, but did not invent it.

  • Who is 'many'? Last I saw, everyone had attributed it to Caroline so that certainly isn't 'many' as you say. How do you know they didn't both come up with it and Caroline happens to be significantly more famous?

  • i agree that Ji Eun Choi is considered by many to have invented it, but i must say, I think Caroline does a muuuch better job on the pearl

  • I have absolutely no problems at all with making it known that Ji Eun Choi is considered to have invented it. If she was the first to really do this among enough witnesses, then it is fair to associate her with this particular style of spin.

  • Also, I do agree that Caroline Zhang is incredible at doing this spin too. She's outstanding for her age (actually...outstanding for any age hehe).

  • nathalie krieg can actually be seen doing a very pearl-like position in the video entitled "Nathalie Krieg - Spin excerpt"

    that was 1999

  • please call me sask8s

  • ok that sounds like fun. tell me if u do. sorry i wasnt there on friday. c u on tues maybe. i landed an other double toe yesterday!!

  • iamafigureskater you should put the stuff we tape on here!!!

  • hey!!!!!!!!!

hey sara! lol at first i didnt kno it was u! lol u finally got an account! awesome and ya ill ask my dad if i can put ur jumps and my spin on youtube!!!

  • she will be the olyimpc champ no doubt!!!! i wish my biellman was like that!!! hi iamafigureskater!! this is sarah

  • Ahhhhh, my favorite skater! So incredible and totally so sensational.

  • wAahh!! shE's so flExible.. XD

  • that was awesome, i wish i could lay back that far!

  • Freakin awesome! I'm lovin this girl! The more and more I see of her the more I like her!

  • Caroline Zhang's spin is so awesome. She should patent it and call it the Zhang's spin! It also blows the mind, like Sasha's "I" spin. I wish I'd get Zhang's autograph... :-)

  • I've never seen something like her spins...

    She is so AMAZING!!!

  • does she have any bones?

  • Gah. I think I just pulled my back watching that. She's like a pipe cleaner!! That was an amazing spin.

  • I stand corrected...she did call it the Pearl...which sounds a lot better than an Oyster! lol...Caroline Zhang has a bright future in skating...her potential is enormous.

  • but she corrected it and called it 'the pearl' she thinks oysters are disgusting

  • Dick Button had mentioned at the 2007 U.S. Junior Nationals that Caroline called the layback catchfoot spin the "Oyster". It's an amazing position! Her centering is reminiscent of Lucinda Ruh.

  • no!peggy fleming said that.

  • Her spin is perfect! She only 13 now, she can do it, but after 4 or 5 years, her body will change, this kind spin will hurt her back.

  • Not necessarily, I depends on her body. I have a friend who has a very flexible back and she has been bending every which way for years. It does not seem to bother her. If the position is natural to her body, then she should be fine, but if it is forced, then there may be a problem.

  • lol the music is fergalicious!

  • absolutely gorgeous...second sasha cohen coming? =)

  • phenomenal. absolutely phenomenal. a bit scary, in fact, because its so GOOD...the flexibility, the centering, the rotation.. >.> if she can maintain that in the senior circuit...cant wait ^^

  • wow!!!

  • Definitely a space alien.

  • 0_0 I didn't even know there were that many variations for a layback. But, then again, Caroline is absolutely the best junior out there. I would have expected it of her.

  • The best layback spin combination you can ever see!

  • Agreed. This has level 4 with +3's written all over it.

Easily the most difficult and intricate spin I've EVER seen.

  • i completely agree! not even alissa czisny can spin like that!!!
