  • great :)

  • Why dont i know any bald headed flute players, damn i thought most flute players had an air of femininity.

  • @BitOveRate I didnt know the Wootens had 4 musicians all together in the same generation impressive.

  • @BitOveRate Actually there were five of them: Victor (bass guitar), Roy "Futureman" (drums, "drumitar"), Regi (guitar), Joseph (keyboards) and Rudy (Saxophone), who passed away last year. They recorded an album together, "The Wootens", in 1985.

  • @saitoRS My apologies, thank you will be sure to check it out.

  • Birthday is tomorrow im looking for a 5 string fretless acoustic. Anyone know what make that sexy thang is?

  • @xlr8rkid98 It is probably a custom Fodera bass, like the rest of his basses (exuding maybe his Hofner violin bass that you can see him with in some pictures). to get one like the one he was playing would probably cost a pretty penny.

  • @TheAdjectiveman It's actually a Taylor I think. I saw a bunch of them at the NAMM Show about 5 years back.

  • Why isn't the band Victor Wooten and the Wootones?

  • Bass solo was to short ;-)

  • dear people watching this video: victor wooten isnt the only damn person in the band. quit drooling over him. he is AMAZING, but try to appreciate the band as a whole. did you miss the ridiculous flute solo?

  • definitely the deepest talent pool to be found in a single group ever in my opinion. simply wonderful!

  • Bela Fleck is masterful in this one :)

  • very good. muy bien exelente saludos desde venezuela

  • I saw Mr. Wooten in a music store in '91 in Hollywood. I had never heard his name before. I remember my jaw hitting the ground when he picked up a bass and started playing it. 20 years later I figured out who that was.

  • good god. I found this by accident and now I gotta change my pants. Thanks alot.

  • Wooten is a wonder!

  • ¿Fretless acoustic bass? Oh...

  • Now I too am over "The Wall" [by Pink Floyd]! This is exquisite!

  • I hope the audience gets that this is jazz, they didn't look like the jazz digging type to me. Hope I´m wrong.

  • Latin jazz..

  • 6 people don't know whats up

  • Oh my funkin God.... How he is playing a fretless like dat??? :O

  • who needs frets anyway...

  • Wouldn't mind having the audio version of this song to play in my car.

  • enter in video2mp3

  • What album is this off of?

  • @deepfriedpankakes

his model is a taylor AB1, with the spruce top; i don't recall it being fretless or having a magnetic puckup, though...

  • Futureman goes old school! From his supermodern Drumitar to the traditional Peruvian Cajón.

    These guys kick major ass.

  • not, its called, Cajón Peruano.

  • Is he playing a box? haha

  • not, its called, Cajón Peruano.

  • @tomaspepino

    I'll look into it

  • Victor Wooten needs to calm down.

  • I like this better than their plugged in stuff.

  • @bigbadbucksnort You can find it on the dvd side of the dual disc version of their album Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - The Hidden Land

  • @bigbadbucksnort

techincaly this is still plugged....all have pickups and amps

  • @guitar1player True that. But it's all to amp up an acoustic sound. Their electric sound is a little thin for me.

  • @guitar1player Technically it must be for us to be for us to be listening to it now

  • Is this available to purchase

  • Is this performance available to purchase?

  • looks like futureman is killing it on the wooden box!

  • @crashedcan

its called a Cajon, its a real instrument actually believe it or not

  • @deepfriedpankakes oh i believe it, thanks for learning me the name!

  • @BassMan1984

hey do you have any other videos of this concert? the sound is just perfect!!

4:47 i love the break at before the main theme ahaaa powerful

  • The Taylor fretless accustic bass sounds amazing. Of cource anything Vic plays is gonna sound awesome though.

  • what is the bold guy playing?

  • @daVIdV93z a flute?

  • Parece muito com baião... nã osei se foi a intenção, mas a hamonia e a melodia são característicos do baião, e em alguns momentos o ritmo tbm...

    interessante

    "baião" (brazilian rythm)

  • What album is this off of?

  • wow!

  • Victor makes that bass sound like a stand up! amazing!

  • futureman does not like just sittin at that drumset does he? haha gotta love it.

  • good bass player good

  • Yeah, that's victor wooten, arguably the greatest bass player in the world today. Just look him up, you'll find unbelievable stuff.

  • He's amazing but not the only one, they're others that are on the same level, like Richard Bona.

  • bona is great, but not in the same league i guess..

  • Actually, they're all pretty much in the same league.

  • hmm, yes you might be right... fingerstyle mr Bona is great too, Wooten too, but does Bona slap? i have no idea, but thanks for sharing your ideas :)

  • @crashedcan They are head to head.

    Groove wise vics got it.

    Harmony wise Bona.

    Both are different but equal.

    World class bassist

  • @BassMan1984 Bona ist in the same league!

  • @alexistexias good player victor wooten? XD he is jesus christ reincarnation!!! lol

  • Looking at his left hand it seems like he is in open G, but he is playing mostly single string, it might be in drop C though.

  • @banjome Bela does alot of singe string work in open G. Some of his early stuff like "Flexibility" and "Sapporo" were played almost entirely single string in open G tuning. Even over unusual (for a banjo) chords like Bbmaj7, Abm7, etc. I doubt Bela would be doing this much single string in drop C because the lowered 4th string makes for more difficult stretches.

  • How on earth does he make the key changes with a banjo. It cant be in an open tuning. Or is it?

  • Can anyone give me the chord progression to this masterpeice, please?

    Amazing, God gifted muscians.

  • December 11 at Kalamazoo State

    theatre.

    PEACE

  • how are you guys getting these december dates??? where are they posted....it's not on the website??? please tell

  • Ya, it's weird, it's not on the site, but it's on the schedule for theatre. Also, if you look on ticketmaster, you could buy em. It's some holiday tour that they're doing. I'd say check local theatres and venues to see if they're on the schedule.

  • Orpheum in Madison, WI on Dec. 13. I'm REALLY pumped to go.

  • Are you serious??

  • They can play their instruments like a mother fucking riot!

  • is this a taylor acoustic bass? Oo it looks and sounds nice Oo

if somebody knows, plz tell me

  • Apparently Futureman hears a lot of rhythms over the rhumba clave...

  • I like Futureman's pirate hat :D

  • I have got to catch a show with the Flecktones.

  • Dec. 11 Kalamazoo, Michigan (in case

you are anywhere NEAR this venue)

State Theatre!!! I got my tix!!! PEACE

  • merci pour ce partage bienveillant , lol !

  • RobertELee01: on a fretless, you can hit a harmonic (looks like B (4th fret) or D (3rd) on the G string here), fret the note with your finger, and slide it up or down

  • You can do that on a fretted bass too.

  • where can i find an mp3 of this?

  • The more videos i see the more i admire victor x_x - maybe one day ill be as good as one of his fingers :D

  • I'd just watched another video of them, and I was thinking the same thing: the more I listen to the flecktones, the more impressed I get. Fuck yea.

  • What video is this clip taken from?

  • this clip is from the dual disc version of Hidden Land, just to let you know

  • Holy crap! Does anybody know how Victor does that slide at 1:47?

  • Harmonic slide. Just do an artificial harmonic and slide it up. It takes a few tries to get it right, and it's pretty much impossible unless you're playing fretless :)

  • pinch harmonic

  • that bass is crazy as hell, pandemonium

  • Man, I can't get enough of that bass groove at 0:22 . It's one of his simpler lines, but man is it effective.

  • Like vic said, first make it groove. I think the most effective grooves often dont have so many notes :)

  • Bela is awesome.

Sorta like the Pat Metheny of banjo.

    That's a compliment!

    5 Stars.

  • With his electric banjo, he does sound like Pat Metheney. I still like Fleck, though.

  • That is one captivated crowd!

  • this is one amazing display of virtuosity. When was this? Where was this? and does anyone have more videos from this presentation...

  • shhh la cagooo shushetumareee !!!!!!

  • smooth as butter

  • could some fellow banjo player tell me what bela is doing at 3:36 ???

  • He's tapping the notes with his fret hand and using this quick hand technique some guitarists use..

  • thats too vauge, guy. your not too much of a banjo player.

i mean what roll is he doing so quick up and down the strings? it could be a thumb 1 thumb 1

    or thumb 1 thumb 2?

  • he is doing a trick he learned from the little banjo boy in deliverance

  • He's getting a "sweep" effect by doing a roll really fast. He does it at 4:05 as well. You kinda rest your thumb and fingers on the strings and "roll" your hand off from your thumb to each finger.

  • Yo dude, that is like sweep picking on the guitar, but just on a banjo. The short answer is...being a badass.

  • that is one beautiful fucking bass

  • @slickrick134 anyone know what it is?

  • @subliminallabs

its a taylor, i cant remember what the model is called but they dont make it anymore anyway

  • Beautiful cuban feeling.....

  • where the hell is this and will they play a little private thing for my birthday too?

  • this is awesome! :)

  • looove wooten with his bass

  • hes playing the drums for some reason

  • ohhhhhhh nicholas!

On facebook it messes it up so it looks like it says "victor wooten on drums" but read the info and you will find "Bass - Victor L. Wooten"

  • Future man is so unique and a great percussionist. He's so inspiring, and I'm a guitar player!

  • LOL, Futureman is playing the CUBE! He came down from the new-pirate era of the 24rth century to show us that the cube is playable, what a master! xD

  • Anyone knows what is Vic's bass? Like, which brand? I know, there's a sign on the neck, but I don't know it :P

  • I'm not sure....but it looks like a Klein.

  • Well, I'll check it out! Thanks

  • It's a Taylor

  • oh, thanks

  • These guys are so Awesome! I've nvever seen vic playing a fretless acoustic-electric before. Cool stuff.

  • I love futureman on the acoustic kit!

  • oh great sound great great great thanks 4 the vid

  • excelente saludos desde venezuela

  • What a fantastic flautist Jeff Coffin

  • im such a big fan of bela, i dont think i would even be comfortable sitting so close to him in that room

  • LOL

  • No need to be uncomfortable, Ive met Bela and he is a really really nice and down to earth guy. So is Vic. If you get a chance to see them live just stick around after their set and they usually hang around to sign autographs and chat with people.

  • " A wise man wouldn't insult me and a fool can't."

    an unidentified 8th grader...

  • 2:38

    Dirty freakin solo. amazing

  • what kind of bass is victor using in tis video

  • Victor is playing the discontinued Taylor Acoustic Bass.

  • at 1:48 he does this harmonic slide...i gotta learn that

  • yeah that was awesome.

  • i like this song. i play along and try to figure out how it goes...jammin with the pros lol!

  • jeff coffin kicks ass!

  • This is why Bela Fleck is amazing. Pure Jazz and new wave. Beautiful.

  • that was beautiful...favorited

  • AWESOME

  • it's a sausagefest in there, do any girls have taste?

  • nope...they're too busy listening to HipHop haha

  • LOL, :) "sausagefest"

  • coffin 4 prezident

  • jeff coffin is an amazingly diverse multi-instrumentalist....ive seen like 3 vids and each one has him playing a different instrument

    also, wooten is god ;)

  • sax and clarinet have the same digitation thats why most sax players play clarinet too, and flute im not sure but maybe too, if not then he is truly multi-instrumentalist

  • i cant see how flute and clarinet/sax can be the same but regardless, hes still great

  • actually clarinet and and sax are slightly different, but the fingerings are the same on sax and flute.

  • yeah i agree, going from sax to clarinet is hell, but clarinet to sax is much simpler. sax to flute is quite easy as well as long as you get the embouchure down.

  • But he's doing more than just playing sax licks on a flute. He's got that instrument down...these guys never cease to amaze.

  • its nice to hear victor playing bass without doing his thumb thing, its a nice change. both are amazing though. and fleck's solo is badass

  • What song is this? Is it coming for their next album?

  • It's called Over the Wall and was on The Hidden Land

  • This song is not on The Hidden Land

  • It's not on the album, it is on the dvd side of the double sided disc version.

  • unreleased

  • Two words...jazz flute...love it

  • That's baby makin' music. That's what that is.

  • That's definitely not a Tacoma bass. If you pause it at 2:13 you can faintly make out Taylor on the headstock. It's either a Taylor AB-1 or AB-2.

  • Wow! Wooten on a fretless acoustic just made my day.. The best part is, the others are just good!

  • WOOTEN IS GOD.

And the rest of the band is amazing, but I always had my eyes on Wooten cause he's my hero.

  • i dont think that they are worshipping him, he is just the most well known thats all.

  • sometimes i wish these videos didnt have comments because every flippin bela fleck vid has wooten worshippers. Plenty of other talented musicians in the band besides victor wooten.

  • Wooten isn't bad on the fretless ;)

  • Fuck 1% of their talent could be enough for me

  • I wonder if Bela uses a different tuning than open G to play jazz like this...

  • nope nope straight badass

  • Anyone have a date on this?

  • really cool, i don't know how i missed this video on the tube. great upload

  • wonderful intonation on Victor's part, and beautiful war, full sound. great song, and well performed.

  • That definitely sounds like an alto flute to me, and I wouldn't put it passed Jeff to play something like that. The entire band was killer here, definitely an awesome video.

  • In this tune, they sound a lot like the David Grisman Quintet, but in my opinion Bela Fleck and co. are at an even higher level technically. Amazing bunch.

  • Is future man using a Ride and a Splash??

I he does, which brand are they

    anyone knows?

  • As Victor Wooten himself has said, do you scrutinize how a baby moves her lips when she speaks her first words, or do you listen to the sound she makes? The brands of the cymbals are irrelevant compared to the skill of the player that uses them.

  • Emmm not when you need new cymbals and you loved the sound of those ones :)

  • who really cares, just listen

  • they're from the future.
