@BitOveRate Actually there were five of them: Victor (bass guitar), Roy "Futureman" (drums, "drumitar"), Regi (guitar), Joseph (keyboards) and Rudy (Saxophone), who passed away last year. They recorded an album together, "The Wootens", in 1985.
@xlr8rkid98 It is probably a custom Fodera bass, like the rest of his basses (exuding maybe his Hofner violin bass that you can see him with in some pictures). to get one like the one he was playing would probably cost a pretty penny.
dear people watching this video: victor wooten isnt the only damn person in the band. quit drooling over him. he is AMAZING, but try to appreciate the band as a whole. did you miss the ridiculous flute solo?
I saw Mr. Wooten in a music store in '91 in Hollywood. I had never heard his name before. I remember my jaw hitting the ground when he picked up a bass and started playing it. 20 years later I figured out who that was.
@banjome Bela does alot of singe string work in open G. Some of his early stuff like "Flexibility" and "Sapporo" were played almost entirely single string in open G tuning. Even over unusual (for a banjo) chords like Bbmaj7, Abm7, etc. I doubt Bela would be doing this much single string in drop C because the lowered 4th string makes for more difficult stretches.
Ya, it's weird, it's not on the site, but it's on the schedule for theatre. Also, if you look on ticketmaster, you could buy em. It's some holiday tour that they're doing. I'd say check local theatres and venues to see if they're on the schedule.
RobertELee01: on a fretless, you can hit a harmonic (looks like B (4th fret) or D (3rd) on the G string here), fret the note with your finger, and slide it up or down
Harmonic slide. Just do an artificial harmonic and slide it up. It takes a few tries to get it right, and it's pretty much impossible unless you're playing fretless :)
He's getting a "sweep" effect by doing a roll really fast. He does it at 4:05 as well. You kinda rest your thumb and fingers on the strings and "roll" your hand off from your thumb to each finger.
No need to be uncomfortable, Ive met Bela and he is a really really nice and down to earth guy. So is Vic. If you get a chance to see them live just stick around after their set and they usually hang around to sign autographs and chat with people.
