@pedrohgromero1 this is bullshit you're talking about. the mass music was and always will be crap, be it beach boys or lady gaga, doesn't matter. it's simply because most people are idiots anyway. But there's also good music all the time - how's Little Barrie today worse than Canned Heat? your comparisons are stupid
@pedrohgromero1 the 95% like shitty music cuzz thats all they play now. i'm parta that 5% and i choose this music cuzz its real, and not some dubbed shit from a computer. i'd rather listen to static then some bullshit commercialized, ear raping fag tunes.
Recent fads in so called ' Popular Music' will, quite rightly be cast into the Dust-bin and forgotten but quality like this will still, being played in a hundred years..........and long may it last......Real Music!!!!...........Rock on Brother.
Canned Heat along with the Doors, Love, and many others were in the Sunset Strip scene in 1966 and 1967. They were not the icons they are today. They were unknown and struggling for the most part. Their music has transcended generations because the musicians put the music first not the money and percs. Bob Hite was considered the front man at the shows. Al Wilson had a severe sight impairment and considered legally blind. They mocked themselves on tv if they weren't playing live. Hope this helps
@pedrohgromero1 Not necessarily true....I think you've got your percentages off a little....there's a lot of kids in this generation who realize most of their music sucks....and they're really into Classic Rock. I get to hear them all the time at local "battle of the bands". It's the promoters and the media that really suck....but, don't get me started ! lol Did you get to see Taylor Swift "perform" with Stevie Nicks at the Grammys ? My God....Swift was so awful....destroyed (Rhiannon) !
@pedrohgromero1 Listen, all music is good. Whether you like it or not, it's still good. People have different tastes and people who listen to just one kind of music are pricks. Most musicians listen to a range of music. Listen to a range to find out what other music you like. I know one of Jimi Hendrix's favourite music genres was classical. Remember, we all have different tastes. Don't just like one kind of music.
@teasdalea1 So if Idi Amin tortured tone-deaf child prisoners with a red-hot poker to get them to scream the words to "Agadoo" by Black Lace whilst he played the melody by dragging his fingernails down a blackboard, you would say "That's music, and all music is good." Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony; Billie Holiday singing All of Me; Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles; Idi Amin and the Itty-Bitties screaming Agadoo in pain. According to you, there is no odd man out. You are incorrect.
@pedrohgromero1 Your statictics are way fucking off. I'd say around 60% of teenage females listen to pop ALL the time and 40% sometimes listen to it or don't listen to it at all. Around 15% of teenage males listen to pop all the time and 85% don't listen to it at all or sometimes listen.
@pratttan Most of the others that don't listen to pop listen to rap or screamer, which is not real music, it's just bad poetry and people who like yelling a lot.
Right on pedrohgromero1. Today's stuff is boriiiiinnng ... By the way, great taste in music, my man. The spirit of rock and roll will live on - it's just too good to lose.
I got to interview Fito De La Parra and Henry Vestine in Singapore in 1990. Canned Heat was doing a three week residency in Singapore. It was emotional moments talking about the Bear and Blind Owl with Fito.
That is freedom, not what stupid politicians told us. Freedom is to wake up with your choice of clothes, with long hair and beard, playing your favorite music. America is becoming an stupid puppet if we keep on listening to Sarah palin and all those stupid hypocrits who run Washington.
These boys had it down. Bob Hite really inspires me today. Alan Wilson would have been even more incredible had he lived. I'd hate to be close to someone as talented these guys and seem them die at 27 & 38.
Some say it's OK to use drugs, illegal and not, but those with talent and knowledge need to see their duty to the music and to their futures. To party hard and die early is in essence a selfish thing. We're poorer musically for so many early deaths. P.S. I wonder why they didn't use the heavy guitar sound live? Last, drummer "Fito" is the last still with us, I think.
Fantastic vision & i grew up enjoying these tunes. HOW ABOUT SOME EXTERNAL WEB PLAY?. Shares on facebook back as restricted play re-direct back yo Tube.//LETS WORK TOGETHER //kikkin
um, y'all should check out the original version of this song, by Wilbert Harrison, who has a great deal more spirit than these guys. Check it out, all together now!
lets stand..because theyve fallen and divided they agree...they never get together they never try to hear...its all a chorus its more like a circus but then they go home. Lets figure out...take their wealth? or make them admit what they dont have and what theyve lost? then youll have to rewrite just how it went down because they will never agree.
Morrison´s fav band? Really? Not that I don´t find it likely (actually, bearing in mind jim was from LA too and he had a deep love for the blues, it´s quite logic), but I just never heard about it
Just one note. I think the annotation mentioned the song Kansas City. Note, this was written by the famous song writing team Leiber and Stoller, and was recorded by Wilbert Harrison. Wilbert was also a song writer and wrote the song "Let's Work Together" contained in this video. I checked it because the song Kansas City was a blockbuster single recorded many times, including by Fats Domino.
Couple of facts are wrong on this - this is 1970 - not 1969. Bryan Ferry didn't change it - he covered Wilbert Harrison's Let's stick together (two different records by Harrison) Brilliant footage though - I only wish they'd JUST show the footage.
@mrmrmanlyman im sick of kids saying how old they are. big deal man, if you like this kind of music odds are you were brought up on it. youre not special
@thestrtingline48 I agree that it's stupid that people put their age to prove something, but I was definitely not raised on this music. I had to work it out for myself. But as soon as I heard Brittany Spears, I had no doubt that modern music was a waste of time and also sucks mega bad.
AH people, this was the good old days... at that time you didn't had to be Handsome with a waxed chest to become famous... because music was what really matered. Fantastic performance ^^
I was just commenting to my son, earlier today, that maybe there's hope when the top selling album (per Rolling Stone magazine) is Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed A Dream"!! I know it's only one example but who knows. Maybe "Video Killed The Radio Star" can reverse itself since MTV isn't the center of the music universe anymore. Basically, I'm saying I'm with you!!!
I like this group not just because of their great music, but they all seem to be good guys and had fun performing including Alan Wilson. I don't know that much about Henry Vestine though. I liked this lineup of 5 best with Harvey Mandel on lead/rhythm guitar.
Henry Vestine was a very talented guitar player. Trouble was he often butted heads with bassist Larry Taylor. About the only time I saw the 2 of them together was Monterey Pop in 1967. Whenever Henry wasn't with the band, Harvey was. Were strong either way. Biggest loss of all was Blind Owl in 1970, followed by Bob the Bear in 1981. Henry died in 1997. Original members Fito de la Parra, Larry Taylor and Harvey Mandel are still with us.
Fito's bio of the band says The Owl *was* lonely and unhappy, making $150,000 a year and living in his van, but how do you expect him to behave in a performance where The Bear is singing and Al's on lead slide? Should he be trying to split his pants like Mick Jagger? He looks totally normal in this video. Get a life.
i think Alan Wilson was a gentle person with an almost saintly affinity with nature.Furthermore, he was utterly brilliant -a genius-as a musician and music creator.
But he was indeed manifestly depressed on stage.I quote the authoritative biography "Blind Owl Blues" by Rebecca Winter at p.168-169: "it`s difficult to describe Wilson onstage so extreme was his introversion".. "he appearred melancholy onstage"Roadie Barry Henson said "Alan onstage "stood stock still-he was just in his own world."
Well has a very short sighted person Alan Wilson cannot be blamed for not moving around and being very introspected, with music eye contact is not a necessity, actually vision is even a disadvantage as less focus can be given to the sounds ^^
right on Unclemoparman, Wilson is in his musical zone here, doing what he does rather well, playing slide on his Les Paul goldtop, he was all about the music.

@1994g0 I've seen the book online but wondered what it was like. Does it give good insight into Alan Wilson?

right on Unclemoparman, Wilson is in his musical zone here, doing what he does rather well, playing slide on his Les Paul goldtop, he was all about the music.

Any footage of Canned Heat with the Blind Owl is pure gold.

Again, I invite all to look at Wilson`s behavior on stage in this video.THIS is how Alan acted in the year prior to his death.
It`s tough to be around a chronically depressed person like this. But the other band members tolerated it because Wilson was so gifted musically.

so gifted musically oh yes brother
