I saw this today in art class and this is such a touching story...and I think that if this animation were in anything BUT 3-D it wouldn't have had the same impact.

I agree! So similar, but so strikingly different... I love the interview where Sylvester ask Giacometti "who is more ambitious- you or Francis Bacon?" a very intense moment!
why, because you disagree? I'm talking about very tender subject matter being raped by someone trying to display their technical competance... Giacometti was existential (at a time when that word had some currency) - this film is simply melodramatic.
but you are just being very judgemental. why not give the credit where it belongs? this film has the right ingredients for everything - technical, artistic and emotional. it is a great piece of film-making and yes, though being melodramatic, it comes across as even more profound and leaves a lasting impact. i was almost in tears when i saw this.
turning Giacometti into a superficial caricature makes me feel on the sorrowful side. it's like turning a novel into a limeric. there was a wonderful documentary made by David Sylvester... hopefully someone will post that here someday.
Yep, the Hollywood score, the swooping "camera" shots, where's the subtlety? I feel like buzz lightyear is going to fly in and knock over one of his sculptures.
Nevertheless, it's still a phenomenonal work of art compared to many animations out there. I personally don't know who Giacometti is, but I definitely appreciate the style of "Eternal Gaze."
I love it

One of the best animated short films I'd ever seen. I work doing sculptures and what an artist create brings to life (literally as the video)

My art teacher showed me this- we started project work on Alberto Giacometti. I feel the soul of him in this short - I was in tears by the end.

i am sorry but you don't seem to have the slightest idea about film-making and storytelling with a passion :)

not at all, you have a right to your opinion :)

this is a pitiful travesty. whoever made it has no understanding of Giacometti's work.
