  • AHHH THESE WERE THER DAYS............NONE OF YOUR 3D .H.D. SHIT,JUST A TAPE PLAYER, A GAME, USUALLY COPIED ON A TAPE TO TAPE HI FI UNIT AND A KEMPSTON JOYSTICK

  • hahah i remember playing this, brilliant game and the graphics where good for its time.

  • did terrence and phillip from south park compose the soundtrack for this game?

  • This has many times been hailed as the best 8-bit version. Looking at it and hearing it, it is noting special.

    No music.

    Terrible sound effects.

No colourshading, a kind of mono seethrough graphics.

But it seems to play well. Have anyone Amstradusers here tried both the Spectrum and Amstrad version. Let me know what you think of these two versions..

  • noob

  • Is there a 128k version of this game?

  • When I saw this on my friends Spectrum I really liked the look of it. It made me feel like I was playing soldiers

  • super gra na male kompy pamietam jak siedzialem dlugie godziny nad ta gra ... eehhh zx spectrum to byly czasy....

  • Great game! Still playable and fairly tough. I just done a walkthrough for it on my site if anyone's interested!

  • Ha.

I remember that last little guy outside the end of level gate, and running away from him so you could get an angle on him to shoot, all the while knowing one slip up and it's back you go. XD

  • used to be my favourite game. i used to utilise the autofire on my quickshot 2 for this one. oh yes, those little blue commie twats were in bother when i finished school. i can remember we also used to copy games by just recording the tape...how good was that. simples....

  • I had both the c64 and speccy versions (the c64 later) the c64 one graphics / sound wise was better (mr hubbard music ;-) ) BUT i heard it took a lot of space.. thats why the game is so short.. the speccy one was far more challenging gameplay / difficulty wise.. so although my fav 8 bit machine is the c64... the spectrum wins out for me on this conversion wise, solely on the gameplay being a challenge.

  • i think at it's time all speccy users thought "crap graphics". But once you're fighting its' very funny :)

  • the colours on c64 were better and the soundtrack. but speccy wins hands down on resolution and details. which im shocked because i remember c64 being alot better. but after being on a c64 emulator i can see the speccy wins hands down. cobra on c64 sucked, u seen that? speccy one was beast lol

  • another great!!! thx

  • Excellent game. It looks a lot like Who Dares Wins.

  • in fact, Who dare wins is a clone of this game

  • Yes, I think you are right.

  • My top score on this version of Commando was 337650, Area 16! I think I used a Kempston joystick, not the keyboard. Boy I was great!

  • that's great score!

  • @goatlps

Was that the one with yellow buttons and auto shoot switch - I had that bad boy 8)

  • @evorobin No, it was the basic big, square, black one (seen in Google images), with the 2 big flat red buttons and red shaft with a ball at the top. Incredibly strong - you could beat someone to death with it! I don't think you can use auto-fire on Commando because you throw hand grenades by holding the fire button longer (or possibly pressing the space bar on the keyboard - but then you'd need three hands). The Atari 2600 joystick (had the same connector) was great too - tough as old boots. ;)

  • I got a speccy 48k but no tape recorder. Can you use any tape recorder for it?

  • i dont understood your question but i'll try to answer you as good as i can. Although i have a spectrum 48k and spectrum+, i used to play and record videos with an emulator called Spectaculator. i hope i'v answered you

  • No i mean to play games. The +2 had a built in one but the 48k one is seperate.

  • Yes u can use any tape recorder which has mic and ear jacks. Other way to play speccy games is with software for loading games from soundcard

  • what i don't know if it's possible buying a tape record nowadays. U can use also an ancient HiFi but on that case u have to buy a current with a stereo jack on one of the edges(for hifi) and two jacks on the other(for Speccy). I hope this answer helped you

  • It's ok i've got an old cassette player but i ordered this speccy off e bay and it has'nt arrived yet i just wanted to know if you could use an old cassette player. Thanks for that.

  • great game but c64 was even better

  • c64 version is closer to coin-op

  • hard but cool game

  • Brilliant game!!! Broke a few joysticks playing this and only completed it once. Need to get the old speccy out and get hooked again.

  • Quality game it went on 4eva, rock hard game.

  • God i loved this game i never completed it though.

  • i hasn't a finish. Once time u finish level 9 or 10(i don't remember) u return to the first level(to kill again those foes u forget ;-) )

  • Dude! You choked at the end man!!!

  • Good stuff. Haven't seen some of those levels for a few years. End of area 3 looks well hard.
