  • lmao I'd love to see the operator's reaction :P

    "Get off ya rascal"

  • I LOVE SQUID! XD

  • they are showing off theyre new tentacles lol

  • Difference between Scaring, Curiosity and Attacking:

Scaring: They will spread there tentacles and 'attack' you (just scaring you)

Curiosity: This was curiosity a Dosidicus Gigas is a very clever and curios animal

Attacking: Only other fishes, like I said the D.G. is highly intelligent and knows the difference between you and his food, so the rumors of attacks are fake (what they think)

  • "hey am on camera :0 hey guys come check this out " xD nice vid m8 hope to see more

  • maybe the squid just wanted some casual robot luv

  • ide want like, a cattleprod on my ROV after that...

  • wow, if this is actually real it's awsome!

  • Very small ROV, thats why the size of the squids looks massive.

Last summer we caught on camera a huge squid in Ghana at -800 mts during the recovery of a UHD.

  • This is amazing. The squids look litterly unreal!

  • Squid drive-by :P

  • just another of the many wonders of the deep... great footage, thanks for posting!

  • wow. Amazing, but the "Attack" part is a little of a stretch. Just think about it, being a squid and seeing an ROV, that would be something they want to check out.

  • this that melvindale?

  • Uhh how are those considered "attacks" ? They are just examining what it is. Stupid humans thinking that everything not human is ATTACKING them. No wonder we kill everything.

  • @Zonemagorgo

It could be. I've read conflicting reports about their aggression, but there have been confirmed attacks on divers. I do, sadly, agree with the ignorance people generally have concerning nature.

That said, that is generally how squid strike when hunting, so could be attacking...

  • ew creepy squids! i HATE squids!!!!! almost as much as i hate crocodiles and komodo dragons.

  • is this real?

  • @sy375289 Yes the video is real. It came from my small ROV when I was off the coast of Chile.

There is nothing fake about this video. I'm not even sure how someone would face the way these squid are moving in the water etc.

I realize they are not actually real "Giant" squid and that they are actually Humboltz squid. Sorry for the mistake.

  • @dscoville If you realize the mistake and are sorry for it, then why haven't you corrected the video description?

  • its fake vid

  • IMMA FUCKIN SQUID!

  • Squid can go fuck themselves! Dirty creepy bastards, get yer tentacles back into space where they belong

  • their like aliens....

  • What does ROV stand for?

  • ROV - Remotely Operated Vehicle

  • Cool

  • The title is a lie.

  • I guess they put "attack" to get more views.

When squid attacks you, You'll know it.

    xD

  • Thats a humboldt squid i think right!? Anyways looks like there were feelin it out not attacking. If they wanted to there would probably be a little more action :)

  • i love how animated squids are...0:30-33

  • hmm if this is wad squids calls an attack, they will get pwned in the sea in a few minutes

  • 'squid attacks' lmao if they wanted to attack it, they would've gained up on that thing and probably the camera man too a long time ago LMAO!

  • dude... its a ROV

  • dude...who cares

  • well, u said camera man...

  • camera man? this is in an ROV, remote operated vehicle. aka a submarine. no cameraman

  • son calamares?

  • Attacks?! more like checking it out. If they wanted to attack they would have stayed on the thing and try to eat it lol

  • is that a Humbolt squid?

  • my arch enemy

  • lol these arent giant squid - these are humboldt squid - and for the record no one alive on this planet has managed to capture a live adult giant squid on camera

  • actually japanese scientists managed to film a living giant squid or at least to take some photos of it...1 or 2 yrs ago, I think...

  • ah kewl didnt kno that - u kno where i can see em? if i google giant squid i just get pics of humbolt -_-

  • This is not true actually, scientists have captured a giant squad on camara, its very poor quality and the frames are broken but it is geniune. Just try to google it, i think i saw it on Cnn. They attached a deep sea camara to a line that was bated, first time ever that one was caught on camara.

  • they are not giant squid..

  • HOLY SHIT O.O

  • pause exactly at 0:33 and imagine you where that white thing. oh my god.

  • this planet is so amazing... i wonder what other life in the universe(s) looks like O,O gawd i find squid so fascinating lol xD omg

  • wow it doesnt look real o.O awesome wish i was a squid [= or a octopus

  • lol?

  • They are highly intelligent attackers.

Watch them feign while another squid does the actuall attack. This happens several times in this video.

  • Whoa, Squids (preferably giant) my tie greatest fear.

  • i don't think i could ever be in the same area as one of these beasts

  • tell them to bugger off!

    LOL!

  • wow, they are soo strange!

  • thats actually a humbolt squid not a giant, they are known to attack in packs and actare actually becoming a very very successful predator =) if you have any questions on it just ask me i know alot bout these buggers

  • yes but they live very short lives, and dont they eat each other?

  • notoriously short , about a year, TOPS , they grow at an exponential rate, and no, not normally, generally they work together, its in highly fished ares where the mexicans (not racist, true, look it up) are fishing everything that is in the water, including the squid, making them highly aggresive and to add, cannibalistic as a response , they attack and eat anything they can, the myth there mindless eating machines isnt true though, in non fished areas there reletivaly timid and very smart,

  • Are you saying that they are actually responding to the fishermen and change behavior? This is indeed scary, since you don't see... say Elephants or lions assult humans in hunted areas. (more so than in non-hunted ones that is ofcourse)

  • yes they are actually attacking specifically cause is being fished, they see the threat and defend themself from it, and actually elephants in hunted areas will attack more, they have long lives and lotta memory , also humbolt squid are generally sumwhat peaceful (aside from obvious carnivorous activity) and will inspect but not assault ppl who are in non fished waters, yet have been known to attack mexican fishermen who fall in and kill them, eating the bodies sometimes , usually not though

  • you're comparing elephants to squid... i hope you realize that...

  • hey mate. i just have some questions about the humbolt squid. how big do they get? would they attack a human in water? thanks for your help

  • length, about 5 feet( i think u should just google that one, cant gauntee, they are bout size of a small asian full grown(not being racist just a height comparison,) in non fished areas they tend to be non aggresive , but when there being fished they do defend themselves , seeing anything around as a threat, even eachother, so yes, they will attack people without any hesitation, infact they are pack hunters and 5 or 6 may attack at a time

  • Keeping in mind that the humbolt squid has "evolved" (so to speak) to attack more aggressively in fished areas.

Can this be some sort of phenomenon? Will dolphins, for example, become more aggressive as they are threatened by overfishing?

    Thanks for your time

  • lol ok dont take this wrong , but that comment was just assinine, it has nothign to do with them evolving to be more aggresive (micro evolution is the term your looking for btw) , they see there kin(same species is all i mean) being yanked out of the ocean by razor sharp hooks seeing US slaughtering them outa lil dingys , thet can directly see is yanking them out in this situation and are smart enough to know WE are the threat in that area, >>>continuied

  • Oh

    i see what you mean.

  • And you realized you did all of this from no fucking reason, stop fucking spamming you freaks.

  • Actualy squids are known for being agressive...i discovered it like 5 min. ago.

  • those squids were just interested on the rope hanging at the end of the boat, they pretty much attracted to bright colors especially yellow, white and metallic green.

  • They didn't seem to be all that agressive, though. I wonder if they were 'playing' to a degree with... "this strange creature that isn't remotly afraid of me."

  • almost jumped in the water with a huge school of them off Loreto, BC - one hit a line we had in the water and that stopped us from jumping in - thats when we noticed the big silhouettes under the boat - caught a few, and my bro brought up just an arm of one that was as big around as his arm... kinda got the chills we almost jumped in with them... never seen them that close to the surface before...

  • humbolt squid are crazy.

if you fall in the water, often they will grab onto you ina group and drag you down so quickly that you don't have time to equalize and you pass out. they take huge chunks out of you!

    they're hella viscious

  • Theres a reason they call them seawolves...

  • thanks man now u got me even more afraid of the ocean every time i see it i start twitching now lol

  • ZO6 is right, these are most likely Humboltz squid, grow up to about a total length of 1.5 - 2 meters. And group together, like here, DON'T fall in the water, they take a bite out of you the size of an orange. Other then that, these are used for calamari rings and such,

  • thats trippy

  • i think those are Humboltz squid.

regardless the technicality, they are still pretty big and do not want to be in the water with them.

  • Holy Crap thats freaking fast

  • It's all like,"Get the heck out of

    here!"

    XD

  • 0o omg

  • Great video!
