  • Wrong. Meztizos are a mix of spanish,Indian,and yes African. Read a book from an educated mexican. La Poblacion negra de mexico. The Author name is Gonzalo aguirre beltran. The lower class mexican's don't know about it because they don't have the money to receive a good education. Soy Dominicano. I have a Phd from the university of New York on Mexican history;

  • Do you believe in that 12 tribes of israel stuff ?

  • no one believs me when i tell em my parents were born in mexico...they usually think im mixed with black (technically i am) or west indian but they dont realize that there are afro-mexicans like me and my family.

  • yes my israelitebrother you are a hebrew from the tribe of isicaar

  • I knew of the afrolatino community that exist in the Caribbean as well as some parts of Central/South America; but, I was completely unaware of the Afrolatino population in places such as Mexico and Argentina.

Due to racial discriminatory, media does not provide representation to black community. However, I think it is the responsibility of US media (i.e. Telemundo etc) to expose indigenous and African heritage in Latin America.

  • This is certainly true. I am Afro-american, I speak fluent Spanish and one thing that I have come to learn is that some people, including some latinos, have a real problem with acknowledging that their culture or the hispanic cultures have a lot of African influence, more so than the Afro-american community. People should get better educated about cultures, it's amazing what one may find.

  • Exactly. Black people are in every country in the world. This shows the true colors of the black population !

  • No, this explains why the richist continent in the world has the poorest people and was robbed of its true identity only to be left with a natural inhertitance for music which was widely used to express their suffering through out the world.

  • Black people are in every Latin American country. In fact black people are in every country in the world actually. Look it up ! And you will learn so much and be quite suprised of the history of many black communities and cultures that you would have never thought of or about before !

  • VIVA AFROCOLOMBIA !!

  • hmmm! I been living in Mérida Yucatán for three years now. After 6 months here, I found out that there were black communities here. I had no idea. I guess I cam with my own stereotyped idea of Mexico as well, as the they (the Yucatecos) have as me, a black woman.

Well I guess the lesson to learn from all this is the following: expect nothing! Come with your mind free of stereotypes and preconceived ideas. I would have had a much better experience here in Mexico, had I only done the same

  • this sounds more like brazil

  • While in school, my son worked for my daughters construction company in Southern California. The Mexican workers would tease him and say he was from Guerrero. We are black Americans and understood that Guerrero had a large population of dark skinned Mexicans of African ancestry - most Americans and a few Mexicans don't seem to acknowledge the role of Africans in Mexican history.

  • im mexican and i knew that there is blacks in mexico for some reason my mom has black features she told me that her grandma was from veracruz werw there is a lot of afromexican and yes not alot of mexicans in california know that

  • you're a afro-mexican

  • Beautiful work!

    Chile

  • vamos pa chincha familiaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • This video is awsome! Let's not forget the Afro-Mexicans who contributed to what is Mexico now. Viva Yanga, viva president Guerrero! Viva all Mexican heroes with African roots! They fought to make Mexico free! The son jarocho would not exist without the Afro-Mexicans!

  • @TeresaNorthridge VIVA KE WE ARE NOT AFRICAN NOT AFRO NO BLACK NOT NOTHIN VIVA AMERICA LATINA EN?TERA FUK BLACK PRIDE

  • This was EXCELLENT!!! Brought tears to my eyes!! Their time is running out!!

  • greetings my sista, finally i hear some one speak

about my people of Acapulco bueno yo soy de sanjose,ca but my parents are from costa chica and its true there are a lot of mulatos and negros down there, damm i am so proud to be Afromexican,so how do you know about my people

well plz reply if u got more info bout my people, one love ya.

You guys should check it out.

  • it sad how so many latin countrys EMBRACE their black roots but a lot of mxicans reject this part of the mexucian history....but face it, its as much mexicos history as any other spanish and indian story...lets embrace all colors mexico has to offer...black, brown, white, theres even yellow.

  • im mexican from european decents and i say ,,im very proud to have all kinds of mixes or still cultures like these is mexico..we need to protect our small black people in my country since its very small percentage..arriva mexico all its people and races

  • im mexican from european decents and i say ,,im very proud to have all kinds of mixes or still cultures like these is mexico..we need to protect our small black people in my country since its very small percentage..arriva mexico all its people and races

  • I love seeing this and hopefully we descendants of Africa can trade from Canada all the way down to Brazil.

    All Iz Well

  • Thank you for watching :)

  • Very good that you show that there are blacks in Mexico. At Univision Forums, there is arguments between Colombians and Mexicans, in which Mexicans consider all Colombians as blacks and Colombians do the same by categorizing Mexicans as Indians.

  • I was born in Colombia. The fact is that there is a lot more Blacks in Colombia than in Mexico. In Colombia, blacks/mulatos are 30% of the population. In Mexico, it may be about 1%. A good portion of the music being played is from Colombia.

  • Colombia is 2nd after Brazil with african decent

  • Actually this is very complicated, in Mexico Africans mixed with indigenous peoples and europeans, there are also numerous afromexican towns in the south, the gulf coast and the state of coahuila in the north, the number of afro-mexicans is not accurately known for in mexico census does not ask for race, last census in mexico was in 1995.

so to say that afromexicans only make 1% of the population of mexico is unaccurate.

in fact much of our culture has a very strong african influence.

  • are all of these photos from colombia or mexico or both?

  • Both, Tumaco, Nariño, Colombia; and Coyolillo, Veracruz, México.

  • Beautiful.

  • US BLACKS acROSS THE WESTERN PART OF THE GLOBE NEED TO KEEP IN TOUCH CAUSE WE HAVE OR I HAVE OR MOST OF US HAVE NO IDEA THAT THERE ARE BLACKS IN THESE PARTS OF LANDS AND KNOW THEY ARE BEING SUBJECTED TO RASICM WE CAN PROTECT THEM WITH NAACP AND THE BLACK PANTHERS. WE NEED TO KNOW HOW THEY ARE DOING CAUSE I KNOW IN SOME AREAS OF CENTRAL AMERICA THAT BLACKS ARE BING MURDERED CAUSE OF THERE SKIN COLOR THE BAD ENERGY IS TRYING TO DESTORY WE NEED TO PROTECT OURSELVES AND EACHOTHER

  • Totally true. Racism in these countries is not over yet.

  • racism is not over not only in latin america but in the united states as well, look at what happened in Katrina, that was systematic murder of thousands of my black sisters and brothers.

blacks in latin america don't need paternalism or protection from blacks in the united states, that's only recreating colonization and imperialism.

    let them decide

  • let them decide decide what thats the problem with niggas today we don't look after each other. We got these big ass niggas in africa claming to make a union IN AFRICA but next door there are genocides ( defnition Genetic Decrease )women being slaughtered and raped while men are being forced to watch and join in these activites and they say let them decide what they want to do. you sound like one of them niggas over there creating a union with a slave tied up in the back of your room

  • what i'm saying is that yes we should create transnational forces of resistance, but we shouldn't be "big brother" we shouldn't continue imitating imperiaist train of thought. people in latin america ARE NOT passive victims waiting for a saviour from the north to come and rescue them. yes we should join our sisters and brothers, but not dictate their ways of resistance.

  • sad thing is that many mexican-american don't know they have black people in mexico when really mexico is diverse country.

  • I totally agree.

If they only knew they wouldn't have all this racial

hate over in California. Those videos (videos on youtube) between black and mexicans disliking each other is sickening when they may be black too.

  • i totally 100 percent agree with angelisa. took the words right out of my mouth.

  • true, we need to create more coalitions and learn from each other, find our things in common.

because we have a lot in common: a history of slavery, struggle against white supremacy, racism, colorism, segregation, social movements, and i can go on and on.

    we need to unite

  • we don't only have afromexicans but we are also part african, great part of mexican culture has a strong african influence.

  • Now if we could only get mexicans to acknowledge that influence. Stop a Mexican on the street and tell him he's got black in him; they'll probably cut you.

  • LANGUAGENERD: i think you are essentializing our community, "they'll probably cut you" this is the type of language that further from uniting us, divides us.

  • black is beautiful.

  • yes it is.

  • oh my gosh! that song in the middle is GORGEOUS!!!! i've been listening to it over and over for the past few minutes... SOOO beautiful. i LOVE hearin black music from the caribbean and latin america.
