I've got one of the Orange ones... #96223 I believe. I've had it 5 years, used it for everything. Still on the original brushes. I bought a DeWalt the same week, and it burned up 2 years ago, receiving equal, if not lighter use.
Yeah, the HF grinder is great. Had mine for over 7 years. Blah, blah blah. ARE YOU A FRIGGIN IDIOT???? Where did you learn to use tools, the frigin zoo? First, secure your workpiece in a vice or at least hold it with a pair of vicegrips. Second, never lay a grinder on the workbench or ground with the wheel down. And I gotta know...do you stop a table saw with your hand as well? The comparison was good, but your techniques are appalling!
i like harbor freight grinders its just te blue one i dont like i had it for a few months and i burned it out to make matter worse i couldnt find my extra brushes so i got another one and my friend burn that one out i think ill try the orange one but for a cheap price i dont mind it at all
well i dont see the same quality but it looks like it works relatively fine and even if you go through five of them over the lifespan of your makita you still break even as far as money goes
in all honesty, every hf purchase i've made without exception has preformed to my expectations. sure it's cheap alot of times and can break and will break before a heavier duty tool would. unless you have a special circumstance, or industrial use (heavy equipment), what more do you need of a $20 socket set or $15 drill or grinder?
Tools get lost, stolen, rained on, run over and dropped. Balance these facts with the cost of replacement and expected lifespan. Only buy what will get the job done in a timely manner. You don't NEED a rolls royce to take the kids to school....
i work at harbor freight and have customers that either completely love it or hate it.....but if you've got the coupon to make it 9.99 you might as well get a 1 yr protection plan for 2.99 unless your to cheap to put out 3 dollars
i ahve had my grinder for about 2 years if not more and use it very harshly and it serves well its the orange one though. ive cut all sorts of metal with it but not for long periods of time say over 1 hour i stop.
but i bought a jigsaw from hf and it broke like in 3 months
I have the orange handled 4" angle grinder. I sawed through an old rusty trailer, worked on it two days and it never missed a beat. I pulled the brushes out and inspected them, very little or noticeable wear. Those angle grinders are the real deal.
@HunterCO1 I am a general contractor, I put up about fifteen thousand pounds of steel in my current project with Harbor Freight grinders. They last about 1/2 as long as name-brand tools. But at 1/5 to 1/10th the price, the savings is significant. Buy them on sale, ten at a time, and throw them in a pile when they break. Take them all back at one time and get new stuff for $5 each (if you renew the replacement warranty). It's math, dear chap.
I've had my Chicago Electric 4-1/2" Magnesium Angle Grinder for nearly 2 years now. Beat the death out of it and it still works like a champ. Motor's rated at 7.5 amps and spins at 10,500 RPM. Very strong unit. I think I paid $34 for it.
I shoved a shitload of metal drilling shavings in a welders makita once in hopes of blowing the motor and wrecking the shit out of it cause he was a prick. The fuckin thing still worked for a week till the dumb ass finally clued into the fuckin weird noises and 4000 rpm.
I had a Chicago Electric grinder from Harbor Freight. It lasted almost a year of occasional use and died, but it cost $14. Then I got a Buffalo Tools grinder from Ace Hardware for like $20 that lasted maybe 2 hours of use in total. Finally I paid the $80 for a Dewalt and have had it for around 4 years and use constantly. If you don't plan to use it much I would probably say go to Harbor Freight, but if you need it to be dependable and are going to use it much I would get something better.
Don't get the magnesium line of grinders from there. I love HF as you all can tell from my page, but I bought one and it burned out in less than one hour. I got my money back but still that sucked. get the orange ones those are really good.
Picked one up yesterday with the coupon for 10. The only thing that gets you is the blades but at 2.50 a peice for good quality blades you cant go wrong. There is nothing wrong with harbor freight tools. I even have an arc welder that works better than my friends 500 dollar arc welder that I picked up from there. Used the angle grinder all night. Pick up one of those bits for getting paint off too. Very usefull :) good vid explaining that you dont need a $150 dollar milwalkee angle grinder .
Grinding discs wearing out is a good thing it keeps the abrasive surface sharp and grinding, what is bad is a disc that doesn't wear which glazes it up and heats the workpiece up.
i'm looking to buy one for a job I got to do. cutting a bolt by hand sucks. which one do you have? I'm thinking of getting the central pneumatic 1/4" one. does anyone know if that one is any good???
If your getting an air cutter go for a craftsman or a husky I own a husky air cutter and I have had no problems with it yet but if your gonna buy a freight air cutter get the extended warranty on it
@MexicanBearFighter - I've had my HF 90 degree angle grinder for about 5+ years now and still runs strong. Also have a HF 3" high speed cutter..for about 2 years now, no problems. Keep 'em lubed and should be fine. A lot of people don't realize that even most name brand tools are made in China. No doubt there are quality differences based on design, but there are only a few ways to design a die grinder.
makita sounds faster ..i bought one of those cheapy ones..i got 8 minutes out of it ....i cut the cord off of it ..took the wheel off of it...and threw it across the garage floor
i would say the main difference is the case. buddy of mine bought one of those recently and accidently dropped it.. the handle broke off along with part of the case where it screws into. i bought a skill for $35 (2 year warranty) at lowes with a much stronger shell. i haven't dropped it yet though..
northern tool has the cheapy brand clark i paid 19 bucks for and i like it because it has a trigger instead of a button and it comes in 5 inch so you get a little more life from it but its prolly the best grinder i got ,i got a large milwaukee, the clark and a small harbor 41/2 that i keep a wire wheel on ,the clark is the best because you can grip it better with the trigger, ill agree with everyone else on the wheels hf ones are shitty ,get better discs
nice plus for the price you can buy several one for a wire bruse and one for a grinding disc and one for a flap disc and still be at 33% the cost of a expesive one.

You don't need to watch this video.
Here is the doofus's "review":
"Werks purty good fer a ten doller angle grinder"
Seriously. That's his review.
Not kidding.

why would you angle the spark spray all over the other tool and all over everything else on you bench? Weld wire and all the other stuff.

The problem with that Harbor freight piece of shit is some asshole sales them out of the back of a pickup truck and tells everyone it is a Makita.

If you know if the steel in the bearings and gears are quality top notch then they will last just as long.
Thetruthishere11 1 year ago
You must work for Harbor freight. That grinder will not last long term.

harbor freight is pure shit the only reason anybody gets more than a day out of that shit is because you use it once a year!!

@sarMICHAEL Yeah, it's cheap, but only if your time is free. How much money you can make while you are dealing with your broken cheap tools?
