  • Thank you for your video's great clips! We have a flock 53 mixed between Reds and Barred Rocks, there sure is a difference between Humanly raised and store bought eggs and it is on the inside.

  • I learned something useful, thanks.

  • I'm thinking about ordering chicks, and I noticed that the hatchery will give them a Marek's vaccination, prior to shipping. How necessary is this?

  • @neffada53 free range chickens need vaccination for sure, it is a must, the person sells the chickens will do it when baby chicks one day old, you can include some apple vinegar in their water to get rid off internal worms, cheers

  • Why are American eggs so white in colour? I'm comparing them to British eggs which are robust and browner in colour with a much deeper orange coloured yolk.

  • @TheFever77 The way I understand it is that yolk color (sorry, colour) and the consistency of the whites depend on what the hen eats. American commercial eggs are (generally speaking) mostly produced on industrial-scale, factory -farms where the hens can only eat commercially produced feed. The hens in our garden are eating bugs and fresh greens as well as some grain and commercial feed and produce eggs with richly colored yolks and the whites are much firmer than commercial eggs.

  • @UncleUlser Thank you for your explanation. We have large scale factory bred chickens in the UK too but the shells are still brown. Our free range eggs deinitely have a darker coloured yolk and the flavour is much better. Either way, I love eggs. They are small tasty miracles!

  • @TheFever77 Different breeds

  • lo ubieras traducido en español jaja

  • sabestian123ify, the hen will begin to sit on the nest or whatever u have after more eggs begin to be laid it will sit on the eggs so let the chicken do the work, just atch and c if it sits on it hope i answered ur question

  • plz reply

  • what should i do after my hen laid egg i want them to grow into chick idont have incubator

    it is my first time

  • @sabestian123ify leave 9 to 12 eggs in the coop together somewhere not too hot, not too cold, one of your hen will go broody and sit on eggs, if this not happen in 4 days replace the eggs with fresh ones, one of them will go broody for sure, you have to turn the eggs by hand two three times a day till hen sits on them, cheers

  • what should i do after my hen laid egg i want them to grow into chick idont have incubator

  • Easter egg laying hens? so where does the Easter bunny come in? I don't think i appreciate the Easter bunny being disrespected or blown off like this. everybody loves Easter eggs.... I'm hurt

  • we have 10 hens and they are laying 8-9 aday. i was wondering why they would be using the same nest. we have provided them with 10 nest but they only have been using 1. why is that?

  • you know i have read that chickens like the same nest to lay in. maybe it is because it is warm. that would make a lot of sense.

  • Brown eggs taste diffrent to me! They really do!

  • to me too

  • Do hens need a roosters sperm to lay eggs or can hens lay egg's with out a rooster?

  • Hens can lay without roosters.

  • I have another qestion for you.

One of my chickens has been laying eggs everyday, and now it has stoped (it's been over five days now).

Do you might know the reason why?

  • There are many reasons why hens sometimes stop laying. Here are a few:

    1) She may be moulting. She resume once her moult has finished.

    2) She could be eggbound! If she is, her abdomen should be swollen and hard. If this is the case, you can contact me and I would be more than happy to help you.

    3) She may be stressed. This can be caused by a new food, a sudden change in light, a sudden change in weather, new flock members, etc.

These are the main reasons why a hen would stop laying.

  • is there a diffrence in laying hens and the the kind of chickens you eat?

  • That depends on the breed your laying hens are - if you have dual purpose hens, that means they are used for both meat and laying. However, meditterranean hens, such as leghorns, are not very good meat birds. I've heard of people eating sexlinks, but I don't think that's what they were bred for.

Then, you have your coronish crosses - birds that are good for nothing other than meat. The poor things can't even survive past the age of about 6 months, from the information i've gathered.

  • my friend said "no" there is not a diffrence.

  • i just watched a video that said what you said, that hens can lay without roosters....

  • @nathanip1

    That's true.

  • I really think it's true! People in my family think so also! and so do you....so it must be true!

  • they can lay the egg with out a rooster, but if you want chickens you have to have a rooster. the same as women.

  • @firebrandsgirl

That's not true. You can have hens all by themselves.

The only real reason you need a rooster is to fertilize the eggs if you feel it's necessary.

  • Yeah that is what I said :))

  • Oh, Im sorry! The wording must've gotten me confused! lol

  • i have araucanas and they lay form light blue eggs to a green blue

  • True bred Araucanas should NEVER lay green eggs - true bred will ONLY lay blue.

  • btw rebecca i luv ur story so adorible

  • we also had small and big eggs we aso got 2 EVEN 3 eggs in one shell and ive seen eggs so small as a coin

  • BULLSHIT we had a little farm at a monastary... yes i lived in a monastary

we had about 40 chickens 10 goats and other animals well we gatherd all the eggs every day and every day we got about like 20 green eggs and they DO! taste diffrent from the other eggs

  • i have a bantam hen that looks like that.

  • my chicken lays golden eggs.lol

  • I kept chickens for a while and their earlobes are soft and feel a bit like a people earlobe. My chickens liked me to rub their earlobes, like a dog likes their ears rubbed. If they got upset and I rubbed their earlobes they would calm down. One hen would even get up on the perches and put her ear on my hand to get her earlobes rubbed. :)

  • I have brown ang gold speckled arocaunas. Theyre very friendly and lay from turqoise to medium blue eggs. When you get a batch of these chickens for the very first time, and they start laying their eggs, its like a treasure when you gather them for the first couple of weeks

  • FINALLY! I've been looking for a vid that explains it all.

  • I have arocaunas and they lay blue eggs! lol

  • Iwould love to see some chickens in their runs/coops. I want to get jersey giants & amcurious about their eggs, how often what size what colour. all you guys should get together & post more chicken videos!!!

  • I doubt you have Araucanas....you cant spell the breed right........they are more than likely easter eggers.

Dont mean to be offensive. Just informing you =)

  • well actually i do. they were given to me as a gift, and didnt come with a tag on how to spell their breed. Sorry.

  • The eggshell colour is also based on the genetic part.

My hens were cousins or sisters, they all came from the same farm.

BUT. They all had different colour on their eggs. They ate the precise same things, but all had different eggs.

One had pink eggs with white dotts, her eggs were always long and thin in the shape.

Another had pale pink/white eggs that were long/round and one had brown round eggs.

So the food might effect the outcome, but it's the genetic that has the final saying.

  • Wow, what a calm chicken! She must really trust you to let you pull on her ear lobe.

  • VERY good vid.. I didn't know about how to tell the color of the eggs by the earlobe! 0.o odd.. but if it works ;) *runs to check the earlobes of the new chickens!*

  • could you hold the eggs and put them back where it was will the momma sit on it?

  • Depends on the chicken; if she is very broody, she will.

  • omfg lol i wonder why 2 of my chicken egg was gone i touched it and look at it had a hole i tough it was a chick then second day i put them both back they were gone

  • the hens probably ate them they do that especially when theyt dfon't get enough calcium because eggs have lots of calcium
