  • This was so beautiful and so sad. I felt so sad, but so calm. It was beautiful

  • "You will find my remains under the steep, overhanging cliff. Hang my skull on an old larch tree. Make a musical instrument from the wood of that tree, and call it 'igil.' Cover the igil with skin from my face; make the strings and the bow from the hair of my tail. When you start to play the igil, my double will come down from the Upper World." - He's crying for his horse, and the igil's crying with him.

  • seasick steve

  • I think, over all, its very nice, and, it seems like some medicine for my soul, even if I am not accusomed to the words or culture.

  • It is the best Ancient Turkish music...

This enstrument's name is ''igil''... This enstrument calls that ''ıklıg'' in Türkiye.

igil (or ıklıg) means ''oklu'' (which enstrument has got arrow)

My english is bad enough but I think that you are understandig...

Tuvans are Turks. Turks are Tuvan. We are GokTuk's child. We are power of the central asia and siberia and ''Turan''....

  • Brilliant. This is simply transcendent.

  • wow

  • igil means (the one) with 2 (strings), like in turkish ikili

  • Here is it real morin khuur watch?v=g5f0QufMaEM

not that piece of shit =/

  • It isnt Morin khuur. Real Morin Khuur makes much more better sound.

    Search it.

  • he hit puberty three times LOL!!!!

  • @minta33 rotfl

  • mal anuna goduklarım.adam sadece tuvalılarda türk dimiş uzattıkça uzatmış sikikler.

  • camera hadden ze motte vastspijkeren

  • The instrument is played very skillfully too. Probably the best I've heard.

  • almost.... ALMOST sounds like the type of music you'd hear at a hungarian dance-hall at 3:00 AM once half of the people are passed out on the floor, the band is just quietly playing and one or two semi-conscious people would be singing.... of course it wouldnt be throat singing, but.... well.... blaaahhhhh

  • What instrument is that in the beginning, sounds amazing. I am so unfamiliar with non-western music, but it so amazing.

  • @JakeTheBassist91 i believe it is called a morin khoor.

  • @baradathlin Morin khuur*

  • @baradathlin this is an igil, used by tuvans. It was probably what the morin khuur used to look like before Soviet modernization

  • No, it is not Republican Turkish, it is Tuvan/ which is a TURKIC language.

  • the opening solo is amazing...would so like to hear more of it...

  • russian folk is beautiful ! i love this song

  • @IvansBigHome this isn't russian folk this is turkish folk

  • @akomaniac1 It Is NOT turkish. It is Tuvan.

  • @thecircusorganizer im trying to say tuvan people are also turks, i wasn't wanna mean turkey people

  • @thecircusorganizer

250 million Turkic peoples on the Earth and Tuvans is part of Turkic comunity.

Tuvan, is a Turkic language spoken in the Republic of Tuva in south-central Siberia.

Russia was a Turkic country to 15 centiry and was named KIZIL ORDA (Golden Horde)

  • @thecircusorganizer

    LOL! what is your nationality?

  • NEVER MIND ABOUT THE CAMERA MATE, THE IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THE BEAUTY OF THE SOUND AND HARMONICS...IMAGE IS NOT SO IMPORTANT I THINK, GREAT VIDEO!

  • the low kargyraa tones i can get reasonably well (and still practicing) but the high ones are still a long way to go :)

  • Absolutely amazing!! I realize that instrument he is playing has a very long neck, but I am still impressed how much music he gets out of it. The vocals are splendid, his range is awesome!! p.s. the camera work sucks, right along with your explanation disrespect meant!

  • Close your eyes and think about your past while listening to this...it will make your day better and make your worries go away. Just try it.

  • Beautifull.....

  • No disrespect, but note to camera operator: Pull back, and hold still. A 3/4 shot with no panning, zooming, etc. would work just fine.

  • @sbjames1000 no disrespect taken at all, we just have different preferances in our camera operation, although i would have preferred having an tripod

  • @tiowey if you're gonna zoom, turn off auto focus!!:)

  • @tiowey yep its no fun holding a seemingly small camera for 20 mins to an hour and then realising your arms about to fall off and your footage is becoming all screwy lol had that happened a few times maself

  • @tiowey An Tripod? I'm hoping this is a typo.

  • @Xideorama I'm hoping this is AN typo.

    FTFY

  • @grandoldbassist you're saying this as a joke yes?

  • they came to my school today and it was amazing.

  • I love the igil solo at the start!

  • Long Live Turan, Long Live Tıva, Long Live Turk...

  • I just got back from seeing them in concert with Bela Fleck. What an amazing show!

  • That must have been awesome! I just heard the christmas cd, it's so good!

  • omfg his kargyraa, haven't been listening to this for months and i missed it so much

  • I come from Germany and i`m a skinhead but this music is for the soul and when you here it you have the feeling that the whole world is green and good!!!

  • Good!

    Grts from China.

  • Really nice...

  • this music makes my soul feel good. some of my ancestors were mongolian, its great to hear thier traditional music come to life.

  • I think the mongol invasion of Europe has left the seed of LIkieing, of the music, and the seed of birth too....

    thom. in scotland.

  • OMG!

Thank you to all that posts these!!!!!!!!!

    Thank You!!!

  • Pure bliss...

  • You can find Igil on ebay from time to time. They are ok quality. For a really good Igil search Tuva Trader. Devin has Igil that are built by professionals, in Tuva.

  • How do you tune them?

  • One 5th apart

  • On fifth of a note? or five notes apart. I am used to the guitar so the first note is E and if I get E right I can get the rest.

  • Yes, 5 notes apart, I have a Morn Khuur which is similar, it has an A and an E. Sometimes they are tuned a 4th like the guitar though.

  • im 14 year old from UK and very interested in learning to play the igil, any ideas as to where i could get one?

  • tuva's an option.

  • yeah that was my best hope hehe

  • wow me too im 15 and ive been researching i also am very intrested in learning tthe igil

  • damm good

  • Is the Moorin Khuur (spelt right?) the same as an igil?

  • Yeah, blindingly obvious to a 15 year old from Norway.

  • woooo, calm down. I could only find info on the morin khuur on the web. Bit your head, yeah look who's talking. Get some counseling before you shoot up school.

  • haha okay first i'm sorry for that outburst. i've twisted my ankle and i'm in a bad mood. secondly, i should've told you how to figure the difference. i you type igil into google images, you get loads if pics of it, and you can check the links out.

  • This is the igil (ee-gil). It comes from the word egil (a-gil) which means comeback. The short version of the story of the creation of the igil is. A farmer lost a colt, and the colt came to the farmer in a dream. If the farmer carved the igil, and make strings from the colts mane and tail; the colt would come back to the farmer when he played the igil. It is said that even today, a skilled igil player can make the horses weap.

  • woohoo! this was at my school!!

  • It is the Mongolian Morin khuur (Horse head fiddle), just having another shape. In some mongolian dialects (in some regions), it is called "ihel". or "ikhel". If you know the Morin khuur and its music, you would have recognize it directly. thanks

  • that guy's really good--he really hits the tones well--both vocally and playing.

  • este es el mismo pibe que aparece con Chevy Chase? Bady sarasa? Cómo crecen!

  • Erhu right? Best instrument ever invented!! And I'm a guitarist!

  • This is an igil; the erhu is Chinese

  • yeh how could you think this is an erhu if the erhu is so amazing? i've got an erhu. it's complicated. and hard to play. but professionals make it sound amazing. i should've got an igil or morin khuur, as i used to play the cello, and it''d have been easier.

  • Great example of sygyt at 2:00 and kargyraa at 3:30 for all you learning throat singers out there. Amazing vocals but maybe the camera work could be improved (i.e. don't shake it and zoom out so i can see all of him).

  • this was amazing! cheers from USA. I love this music!

  • dear matt ely: please zoom out just a tad next time.. great sound tho.

  • Incredible... such a powerful voice.
