I just realized that he just pretty much said bruce almighty when he said he'd be misusing those powers, something tells me he probably came up with the idea for bruce almighty
For instance, a lot of you didn't know this but, Sam was in terrific physical condition. He used to say to me, "Jim, long distance running, that's the key!" He hated confrontation of any kind. And other comics took advantage of that. They'd push him down, steal his beret, "Come on Sam!" I'd say, "Sam, come on, you gotta get mad!" and he's say, "No! People from Oklahoma just don't do that." Shy retiring, never quick to judge. That's the Sam I knew. And I'm sorry if that bursts your damn bubble!
@000EatMan000 Don't know where you figure that Jim is pitching Bruce Almighty in 1993? Bruce Almighty wasn't filmed until 2002 and released in 2003. Jim was making reference to Sam being a former real life revival preacher.
It saddens me to think that the modern generations are missing out on so much, for example, many of the younger set don't understand the whole "The twelve has stopped flashing!" bit. Maybe I'm just getting old...
@Frankenpalin Not in a long time. The most recent full-on standup special I've seen was Unnatural Act... and that was ancient history. Someone feel free to let me know if there was anything more recent. He's incredibly talented, but he's largely put touring away in favor of movies. It's a shame he doesn't to the Robin Williams thing and still do a little standup tour and DVD every now and then.
@jayrobson88 Some comics will do stand up their entire careers because they love it. Working without a safety net. Live comedy separates the wheat from the chaff in the comedy world. Guys like Chris Rock, George Carlin, Richard Jeni, Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld and Sam Kinison were true stand-up comedians.
Sure, some go the way of Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, and Steve Martin, but most love that live spotlight. Jim is great, and I hope he does have a tour again sometime before he's done.
@Raventoll I don't think Jim will ever go back to slumming it doing stand up. He is still trying to win that elusive Oscar...the path of Robin Williams and Tom hanks.
@biffbyford It's a shame. He went from being a great stand-up comedian to a movie-comedy actor to a serious actor, but I honestly think Unnatural Act is a more brilliant piece of work than Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
@Soleman92 I agree. He was an amazing comic. There aren't many people, comics, rock stars, or even "rebels" have the balls to say what he said, how he said it. He was a fucking amazing man.
back to school was Rodney and Sam's were finest moments

You guys are right. Jim Carrey's magic is on the movie screen. Not stand up comedy. I miss Sam. He was great.
