Does anybody know the name of the melody saliery is playing exactly at 5:01 when the priest enters the room? For some reazon I seem to have a fixation with it :) Can somebody please tell me???
This movie was on TCM a few days ago for Oscar month but it was the original version. However, I've seen this Director's Cut version on another channel, which I recorded and watched on New Years Day with my parents. It was a great way to start off 2012. :)
It's excellent at the beginning (when Salieri's being transported to the hospital), and we hear Mozart's 25th. When we see Salieri look up to the concert hall, we don't know anything at first, and we think he's groaning in pain. Excellent directing. :)
esta pelicula esta genial es muy bonita me encanta dios es hermoso lo adoro gracias la musica de mozart es la voz de dios es buenisima te felicito amigo
i remember it as a great movie - who cares if it is not what probably actually happend - it has so much poetic truth - the understandable envy by the talented hard worker of the genious
@wildhias This is based of a play. Play's aren't always real.. some people just need to go back to school and figure that out before making fools of themselves.
@1daddy57 Amm someone I know has been in one.. and yeah it's the same.. I meant the fact that there's a bunch of naked men around. Not in the Bedlam I was at. But I see what you're saying. Take care. deary.
@MrDavidFILM Actually for me it would be hard to forget them since the first I only know by name and the second one I have never even heard off but you are right that this music is one of the greatest ever produced by humanity
@marianmus You have a rather important line missing at the end here... before the cut to young Mozart playing, the old Salieri says "He... was my idol". That one shouldn't be left out as it explains in one line what Salieri felt about Mozart.
lol, 2:10 the music begins and then the note: "Symphony 25 in G Minor K 183, 1st movement...", thank you for your complete information! I really like Mozart, but it's hard for me to remember the name of his compositions.
@Catoteto Thanks, but there is no singing in the piece you gave me? I meant the second song when Salieri is playing the piano and the singing stars...
@Rimimi55 The second song Salieri plays for the priest is from his opera, "Axur, re d'Ormus", ("Axur, King of Ormus"). The piece is from act IV, named "Son queste le speranze".
@Rimimi55 in classical music there are no songs. They are called pieces which can be arias in an opera or symphonies, concertos, sonatas but never songs
@Rimimi55 I do not know its name but I can tell you this what salieri plays on the piano is the same music which is heard in the aria which follows it. An aria as it clearly is from an opera. An aria is basically a song in an opera naturally with singing to be honest with you when I 1st heard what salieri was playing I didnt recognize it as what came after but with time my ear developed and I was able to recognize it.
@Rimimi55 Actually, I am a writer and I have written many articles on the subject of opera and even a book. If you google my name "Truvianni, Figaro" you should be able to find my articles on the subject Mozart's opera. The name of the book I wrote is "New York's Opera Society" which is a story about people who study opera in New York.
If you've never seen the film, I implore you to see the theatrical release before you see the director's cut... the dc makes a terrible change in one scene, one that alters how the viewer thinks of Salieri... in it, he does something that is literally "out of character."
@773SleepyHollow I disagree... the directors cut adds depth to all three main characters (Antonio, Wolfgang and Constanze). The action you speak of does not show Salieri "out of character"... instead it shows that he is not heartless and that he is shocked at what lengths he was almost prepared to go in his struggle against god.
@mkarnerfors I haven't seen the entire dc, I'm referring to a specific scene. In it, Salieri behaves MORE heartlessly than his character logically would, and veers from the core of his feelings about Mozart, which are an uneasy mixture of awe and embittered envy.
@mkarnerfors I wouldn't be surprised if there are other scenes in the dc that would appeal to me - Forman is a master filmmaker, and likely has good instincts more often than not - but the scene I'm talking about was a dealbreaker for me.
I thought,"THIS is not the Antonio Salieri I've known all these years... you've changed, man, and not for the better."
@773SleepyHollow You need to remember that the DC is the way it was originally scripted and filmed. The DC shows the "original" Salieri... the theatre version Salieri is scaled back and more shallow.
@mkarnerfors I might see the DC eventually; Amadeus is one of my favorite films (Top 5), so I have a # more viewings ahead of me (& behind me). We'll have to agree to disagree about the aforementioned scene, but it would be interesting to see what other changes the DC made to the theatrical release. (Almost all released films are different than what is originally scripted, & edit or wholly omit certain filmed scenes. An editor's restraint can be helpful, as I think was the case here.)
@nujac321 dude is this based on peter shaffers amadeus ? cus i have this as a novel for english this term , i was wondering if i could watch this movie to get a better understanding of the novel ?

I love the Mozart vs. Salieri legend! I first watched this movie, read the original play, and listened to the songs from "Mozart L'Opéra Rock" and I could quote this movie in everyday situations... that's how much I love it! ^3^
In Germany almost all foreign films are synchronized and dubbed-over - generally I prefer to watch the original with subtitles but Amadeus is one of the few exceptions: the German dubbing was perfect, giving them a slight Austrian accent while I find the original American-English a little "odd" for the setting.
This is one of the most impressive films I ever saw in my youth...I have watched it 20 times by now and still can't get enough of it...say the least of Mozarts music, for which this films opened my ears....
Where is the "Charming" Mozart tune that Salieri plays on his keyboard from? (guess what? the Firefox spell-check add on recognises Mozart, but not Salieri...)
The Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, K. 525 was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1787. The work is more commonly known by the title Eine kleine Nachtmusik. The German title means "a little serenade", though it is often rendered more literally but less accurately as "a little night music".

@GuqinZheng It's from Axur, re d'Ormus ("Axur, king of Ormus"). Exactly which piece I cannot say. This opera is again shown later in the movie, when the emepror presents Salieri with a medallion and praises his work.

DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE CAN NEVER SEE IT ON TV, CABLE, WHATEVER
palalan 1 year ago
@palalan I KNOW! Why the heck is this movie never on TV? You'd think they'd show it on AMC or TCM, especially since it IS a classic and won, like, eleven Oscars.
FlippinBooks 1 year ago
@palalan it actually won 7 Oscars, including best actor and BEST film !!!!
that's why I really apreciate Marianmus to have posted Amadeus ♥

Abraham won a oscar for his role as salieri. but it's disappointing his career never really took off., He never came close of equally his performance as Salieri.
